  • Year 3 students have been working like busy bees! In Science, we are learning about heat and did an experiment to melt butter and find out which material is the best conductor of heat: wood, metal or plastic! In Writing, students also wrote and gifted some wonderful acrostic poems to their loved ones. How thoughtful of them! (Mrs Amin)

Year 5 students are having an eventful term with exciting activities in their learning journey. Book week, Spelling Bee competition, a closer inspection at micro-organisms and cells in science, treasure hunts in Maths keep them actively involved outside the classroom. (Ms Balgish)

Students are also learning about Biological Sciences. They are researching about animals that are unique to Australia, learning about the creation of Allah (swt) and their features that allow them to survive in the Australian environment. In Literacy, we are learning about writing an explanation text. The students are combining what they are learning in both disciplines and incorporating them into one. (Mr Zamri)

My favourite subject is Religion because there is always a lesson about the Prophets that we can learn from. I have watched Bilal’s story and I have learned to not treat people differently because of their skin colour. I have also known how much Prophet Mohammed (s) loved us.

My favourite thing about school is the teachers. They are the best friends for the students like Miss Afroza and Miss Sumya. When you are sad, they come to you and ask you why you are sad. When you share your problem with them, they will help solve it. These teachers are gifts from Allah who has given us the kindest teachers at Iqra College. I would rather stay in this school instead of going to any other school. You will not find any teacher as kind as the teachers at Iqra College.

In order to do well in my study, I always take notes in my book. I keep myself organised by following a timetable for my studies and always save my practice tests to revise. I would advise all the students to have a home timetable to help them with their studies. (Asmaa Kenaan – Year 7)

  • HS Boys Health and Physical Education – European Handball

This term, Mr C collated feedback from the students at the end of last term which included:

    - “Play sports like Dodgeball” – MK (Yr 8)- “We want soccer” – pretty much all of the boys!

He has built in (as a flow on from Netball), elements which incorporate Basketball, Ice Hockey and Soccer, to deliver instruction on European Handball.

Please click on the video link here to view one of the Mr C-type drills he has adapted from AFL, Cricket and Touch Football, to help develop the necessary skills to play European Handball.

As part of the Composite class structures in Physical Education at IQRA College, there is a two year cycle of planning that has been organised by Mr C to enable students to be exposed to different sports from the year before (except for Athletics – links with Sports Day). Since 2019, the HS Boys have completed the following units of work for Physical Education (Athletics, Basketball, Touch Football, Cricket, Football Codes [Soccer, AFL, Gaelic Football and NFL], Netball and European Handball).

I look forward to presenting the boys with their Premier’s Be Active Medals when they arrive at the school as this was completed during Term 2. (Mr Aaron Caesarikow - HS Boys Health and Physical Education Teacher)

    Year 7 EALD

To make real life connections with the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio, students explored the reasons behind disagreement in a friendship. Students presented their findings along with their explanation and relevant picture to make their statements stronger. For example, Mohamed Alham had an excellent presentation with engaging visuals as shown here. (Ms Afroza)

    Year 7 Art

This term, we have focused on teamwork and leadership development in art. Students are working in a group to design their own superhero and write the background story of the superhero. Students will later in the term show their superhero in action. (Ms Afroza)

    Year 9 English

Year 9 students designed two newspapers covering the update of Term 4. All the students got involved in writing for different sections of the newspaper and designing the layout. These newspapers have been put outside the English classroom which has caught the high school students’ attention and has given them articles to read from the students’ perspectives. (Ms Afroza)

    Year 7 – 8 HPE

We have had a strong start this term with our meaningful discussions about stereotypes in sports. The discussions were led by the students where they critically analysed why some sports are assumed to be structured for only one gender. (Ms Afroza)
