NEWS ‘N’ VIEWS “Creating Our Future Through Learning” FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents and Carers, Arriving at School Early As you are aware the supervision of students at school does not begin until 8:30am, with classes going in at 9:00am. This is a reminder that students are not to arrive at school before this time. If you require after school care please check the community notices on the back page of this newsletter for details. P&C The next meeting of the P&C is on next Tuesday 10 th November. Usually we have this in the school Library but due to Covid we have been having these by Zoom. The P&C are an integral part of the school and provide so much support for us. They have been very creative in the ways they have been doing things such as the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day stalls and now have a Christmas Raffle which has some fantastic prizes with many of these being donated by the community. I encourage everyone to buy tickets. Details on how you get tickets will be regularly put on our school app and on our Facebook page. Library A couple of weekends ago our library got flooded due to all of the rain that we had which meant that the Library was out of action last week. All of last week we had blowers drying the carpet out and all of the books and shelving had to be moved out of the admin area and the storeroom, which was a mammoth job. Our amazing Library staff, Lyndall Coles and Beth Thoroughgood have put all of these back and the Library is back in use. Year 6 and End of Year Activities As you are aware Covid has made a great impact to what we do and this years end of year celebrations and activities are going to look much different to every other year. The department has developed guidelines (that understandably have been changing all year) which outline, for all of our safety, what we can and can’t do. These regulations will affect especially what we do for Year 6. We are awaiting the latest guidelines so we can finalise what we can do. We hopefully will still be able to have a Graduation Ceremony with limited parent attendance and I will make everyone aware after we receive the latest guidelines. Staff Development Days 2021 Next year Schools will have 2 staff development days at the beginning of the year rather than at the end of the year which is much more sensible. Staff will return to school on Wednesday 27 th January with students returning on Friday 29 th January 2021. Kindy 2021 Our Kindergarten had their first transition session today and we were very excited to meet them. Transition is very different this year as we have been unable to have parent information sessions and parents are only allowed on site for 10 minutes to drop off / pick up their child. We only have a small kindergarten group for next year but even on their first session they were all very settled and engaged with the teachers and each other. Year 7 Transition. Again this is very different this year. I just attended part of a zoom lesson from Erina High with our Year 6 students. Usually our Years 5 and 6 would attend the high school numerous times over the two years but as we all know this year is very different. Thanks to Erina High for being creative and thinking of ways that can help our students with their transition to high school. Graeme McLeod
