Music Ministry Search Process Update

The Music Ministry search/call committee is taking time this week to pray and discern the feedback received from the Town Hall meeting, the visit last weekend by Music Ministry candidate Cindy Gnewuch, and listen to the Holy Spirit's guidance as the process to fill the Music Ministry leader position continues.

Call Committee members remain open to questions and comments about the search process. Members are: Mike Macrina, Kirk Anderson, Craig Mosford, Jane Leeling, Helen Poe, Julie Eichhorst, Jennie Smith and Pastor Carl. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide this committee to find just the right person to partner with us in the ministry of Prince of Peace.

Prince of Peace welcomes Mecia Miles-Rockett to fill the role on our ministry team as Community Outreach Coordinator. Mecia’s role will include connecting members and people in our local community to PoPLC activities and hands-on opportunities that express Christian concern, care and witness. As a member of the support staff, she will serve as the primary contact for our ESL program and will facilitate new member onboarding and assist with the coordination of member engagement activities, local community outreach, and missional endeavors. She will also support church and community-wide communications.

Mecia is an ESL teaching professional and holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Psychology. She is certified as a Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and comes to us with experience in coaching, recruiting, training, team building, managing cross-cultural programs, and on-line course teaching. She grew up attending Gospel Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI and is married with a son. She can be reached at [email protected]. Lori Stillman ended service as Community Outreach Coordinator for Prince of Peace this summer. We are thankful for Lori’s service to the church as she served in this capacity and appreciate that she will continue to serve the Lord and her Prince of Peace family on a volunteer basis. Lori will be working with Mecia over the next few weeks to help orient her into the position.

As we approach an election, it seems we cannot escape the topic of abortion. As polarizing an issue this is to voters, imagine the inner turmoil it brings to a woman who has abortion in her past. The good news is that our gracious Heavenly Father does not want one woman to continue suffering from guilt and unforgiveness. Assist Pregnancy Center is offering our next group Bible study for post-abortive women starting Thursday, September 15 and running 10 weeks. RSVPs are required. If someone you know has experienced abortion but hasn't yet come to grips with the need for healing, please encourage her to join us. A flyer is available here to help facilitate advertising.

For more information or to RSVP, please contact our Abortion Recovery facilitator, Julie Lovejoy, at [email protected].

ECHO and gift cards... not necessarily a match made in heaven. While ECHO can easily and quickly use donated grocery store and gasoline company gift cards, cards from other types of vendors (restaurant, coffee shop, clothing store, internet music providers) are difficult for ECHO to use for the following reason: for both auditing and security purposes, the cards count as cash and it is against ECHO policy to keep more than a modest sum of cash in our building. They tend to collect until we can find the most appropriate ways to use them for client services, thus compromising security in our building. ECHO volunteers are grateful that our community supports the work we do to assist neighbors in need, but we ask that gift card donations be limited to grocery stores or gasoline companies. This month, ECHO needs donations of: Children’s Winter Coats

Boys Jeans - Sizes 6 – 18

Towels - in good condition

Working Sewing Machines

The ECHO food pantry needs: Dried Beans Cooking Oil Jelly Bags of Rice Juice Tissues Shaving Cream Toothbrushes Child/Adult Pain Medicines

(Over-the-Counter) Remember ECHO at Your Workplace United Way Campaign or CFC For those who have workplace campaigns for United Way or CFC, please remember that ECHO is a participating charity and derives much of its ability to meet the emergency needs of our community from these gifts. Our United Way number is 8426, and our CFC number is 74224. ECHO is located at 7205 Old Keene Mill Road, and is open to receive donations on weekdays between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. or between 7 and 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Receipts are happily provided.

Day to Serve Fairfax County houses of worship are unifying in service this fall for a Day to Serve, September 10 to October 11. The Fairfax County Clergy and Leadership Council and Faith Communities in Action are encouraging faith communities to invite their neighbor houses of worship to join them in a fall 2016 project to serve those in need. Identify a service leader in your faith community to coordinate a project and invite two or more nearby places of worship to join you. Projects can be newly created or one of your annual service activities or another service event already on your calendar. You may choose any date this fall for your service event to take place. Most Day to Serve projects will take place from September 10 through October 11. For more information, please see Fairfax County Day To Serve and daytoserve.org. Once you solidified your project email Fairfax County Community Interfaith Coordination at [email protected]. Thank you for joining and serving our community!

Sharing your faith story is an integral component in living out your faith. Your individual story makes up the greater story—the story of God’s redeeming His people for Himself. Our stories encourage other believers while God also uses them to reach those not yet connected to Him.

• “I encountered an older Muslim woman in the lobby of a medical building. She was confused about where to go for her appointment. She needed a brain MRI that explained her confusion. I led her to her doctor's office where she embraced and thanked me for helping her. I felt God set this divine appointment for her and me. I told her ‘God bless you,’ as we parted and also thanked God for this opportunity to help this woman.”

• “Seventeen team members from across the country spent a God-

inspired week at Village of Hope teaching hundreds of children skills they do not get during the school year.”

• “We thank God that our nephew is here for a D.C. Law School

internship.” You can share your stories by writing them in the “Friendship Folder” at any worship service, or post your story as a comment on the popfaithstories.wordpress.com, or by sending an email to [email protected].
