Overview Overview • STAGE 1 – MAY 2009: Local event in BA,

organized by ARTESOL Spelling Contest with other secondary schools: selection of 1st and 2nd place winners

• STAGE 2 – AUGUST 2009: International Event Two winners from each country will travel to the U.S. for the final event in New York City, where they will compete against the winners from other countries.

• The champion at the final event will receive a scholarship valued at US $10,000.

• A Participant must NOT have been born before January 1, 1994

Source of WordsSource of Words• Spelling words for the local event will

come from Merriam-Webster’s Advanced Learner’s English Dictionary.

• Spelling words for the final event may also be supplemented by words from Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, 11th edition

• ARTESOL will provide Boston College with these dictionaries
