• Criterion-referenced standardized test

• State-mandated assessment of core content– Reading– Mathematics– Writing (Grades 5, 8, and 11)

• Administered to all students – Grades 3-8– Grade 11 (reported separately)

• 29% of students scored substantially below proficient in reading in 2007, the same as in 2006.

• A trend demonstrating an increase in percent proficient across a three-year period has emerged.
