Chairman emphasized upon the production of quality seed of important crops of arid zone and its timely supply to the farmers. SKRAU has a wide network of seed farms viz., 2-ARS, 1-ARSS, 7-KVKs, CoA and Central Nursery spreading in six districts of Rajasthan. All these centers are involved in the production and supply of the quality seed and planting material. He said that each and every corner of farms must be utilized for seed production purpose and our target should be at least 25 percent higher than the last year production. Dr. S.K. Sharma, Director Extension, Dr. P.S. Shekhawat, Director Research, Dr. R.P.S. Chauhan, ZDR ARS, Sriganganagar, Dr. S.R. Yadav, ZDR, ARS, Bikaner also expressed their views regarding production and supply of quality seeds to seed production agerncies and farmers. Some of the points emerged during the meeting are as under: 1. Whole area of seed production farms should be utilized in seed production and package of practices to be followed to harvest the higher yield and quality seed (Action: All Farm Incharge). 2. Maintenance breeding of all varieties developed by SKRAU would be taken due care by the breeder concern because it is the backbone of the seed system (Action: All Plant Breeder). 3. Crop cafeteria of popular and new varieties of major field crops should be established at each KVK for perusal of visiting farmers (Action: All Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK). 4. Seed day program before sowing and field day program during cropping season should be organized by each center for enhancing the visibility of university seed (Action: ADR (Seeds), ZDR, All Sr. Scientist & Head, All Farm Incharge). 5. NS, BS and TL seed production program strictly be monitored to ensure the quality seed production program (Action: ADR (Seeds). 6. Bajra hybrids viz. BHB 1202 and BHB 1602 developed by ARS, Bikaner to be brought under seed production programme. Possibility for signing of MoU with private seed company for their seed production would also be explored (Action: Director Research and Dr. PC Gupta). 7. Planting material of fruits, vegetables, NxB hybrid should also be taken at seed production farms as per need of the local farmers (Action: All concern). 8. New varieties should be included in seed production program to enhance the varietal replacement rate in Rajasthan (Action: ADR (Seeds) & Farm Incharges).
