General data

The city of Narva is located in North-Eastern Estonia at the border with Russia, at the distance of 212 km to the East from Tallinn and 150 km to the West from Saint-Petersburg.

Since 2004 Narva is the European Union border city.

The city lies on the left bank of the river Narva, 14 km away from the place of its flow into the Gulf of Finland, where a resort town Narva-Jõesuu is located.

Narva is the 3rd biggest city in Estonia. Its population (as of 2006) is 69 000 people, among them 47 000 are of labour age.

The city of Narva – what is it?• Narva is a city on the Eastern border of Estonia, which has

two histories: (1) today’s Narva, with architecture and culture originating from the Soviet times and (2) baroque-style Old Narva, which perished in the World War II.

• Narva as an industrial city: in 1950-s Narva started to develop as an industrial and power engineering centre by rapid restoration of the Krenholm Manufacture, construction of huge plants, a hydro electric power station and two thermal electric power stations.

• Narva as a city of multiple ethnical groups and cultures.

• Narva as a tourism centre!

In what situation are we today?• Continuing growth of investments into the city and the

region • Rapid development of trading centres• Removal of industrial enterprises from the city centre

into suburbs• Beginning of powerful development of dwelling sector• City authorities’ purposive work on creation of more

citizen-friendly and comfortable city environment

Project main activities: • Investments into the infrastructure of the tourist

product “Bastions route” including construction of a drainage system at Victoria, Honor, Gloria bastions;

• Construction of illumination at Spes, Pax and Victoria bastions;

• Water and sewage system construction in the front yard of the Art Gallery for outdoor café erection;

• Installation of information board and stones at the bastions.
