The Glenvale Explicit

Improvement Agenda

GLENVALE NEWS The Newsletter of Glenvale School

www.facebook.com/GlenvaleSpecialSchool twitter.com/glenvale_school

the

Dear Glenvale Community,

This issue is dedicated to providing the latest information

we have regarding the Corona Virus (COVID-19).

The NSW Department of Education is introducing

proactive measures to limit the impact of COVID-19 in our

schools.

Our schools have adopted social distancing measures,

including cancelling assemblies, excursions, therapists,

volunteers, travel and some events and conferences.

All major arts, sports and initiative activities and events

will temporarily be ceased until further notice. This

includes whole-school sporting events and inter-school

events involving three or more schools.

Current advice from the Australian Government is:

All travellers to Australia will be required to

self-isolate for 14 days.

A ban on cruise liners from foreign ports arriving at

Australian ports for 30 days.

Any confirmed case of COVID-19 will be excluded

until they are medically cleared to return.

Close contacts of a confirmed case of COVID-19 will

be excluded for 14 days since last contact with

the confirmed case.

Students and staff who have returned to Australia

and have shown no symptoms during the

14-day home-isolation period are able to return

to school or work.

NSW Health has processes in place to identify any close

contacts of cases confirmed in Australia. A close contact is

a person who has spent significant time either face to

face (15 minutes) or in an enclosed space (2 hours or

more) as someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

It is advising these close contacts about not attending

work, school or early childhood and childcare services.

The Department of Education continues to work closely

with NSW Health to monitor and respond to develop-

ments and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students

and staff.

Consistent with current guidelines, children,

students and staff who are unwell with

respiratory illness should remain at home until

symptoms resolve. In accordance with our

current practice if any student becomes unwell

we will implement our infection control

guidelines and follow the advice provided by

NSW Health as appropriate.

As you can imagine our cohort of students

comprise of some of Australia’s most

vulnerable citizens. The health and wellbeing

of our students, and their families, is of

paramount importance.

We have been advised that hygiene, social

distancing and personal care can mitigate the

risk of contracting COVID-19, however there is

a portion of students for whom personal care is

performed by others, and their ability to self-

regulate is still developing. Students with

identified communication impairments may be

compromised through inability to inform

others of any symptoms and social distancing is

a skill that may not be understood, thus

compromising wellbeing.

It is more essential than ever to remember that

if your child is sick or unwell with a respiratory

illness they should remain at home until

symptoms clear up.

As this is an evolving day-to-day situation, I

encourage parents and carers to follow our

social media feeds and if urgent

communications need to be made we will

utilise our Sentral Messaging System to contact

you via text message.

Our amazing staff are doing everything within

their powers to ensure the hygiene, safety and

wellbeing of students.

Regards as always and don’t hesitate to call if

you have concerns.

Matt

Voluntary School Contributions

Voluntary Contribution

Every public school asks for a small contribution towards the many costs

associated with education programs.

At Glenvale, we ask that parents contribute $35 per child each year. This has

not changed for many years and is very small in comparison to other schools,

even though our costs can be much higher.

Please consider sending in the $35 as soon as you are able to do so; a payment

can be made via our webpage www.glenvale-.schools.nsw.edu.au. Go to the

‘Make a Payment’ tab and follow the links.

Many thanks to those who have already done so.

All donations to the school over $2 are tax deductible as Glenvale is registered

with the Australian Tax Office as a deductible gift.

Please return permission notes and information regarding students ASAP.

Year 7 vaccinations will be held on Friday 27th March

The last day of Term 1 is Thursday 9th April.

Term 2—students return Tuesday 28th April

Important Term 1 dates

Please sign your child in/out Department of Education guidelines state ’school staff, as part of their duty of

care, must record and monitor part and whole day absences.’

This information is also essential in the case of an emergency evacuation/

lockdown. Therefore, please ensure when dropping your child off late or

picking them up early that you first sign them in/out at the office. Thank you.

The RAZZAMATAZZ show has been postponed until a future date.

We will send an update when we know more on the new date.
