Remember to set aside time to join us at Presentation Day on Friday from 10am. It is always a wonderful morning and brings much joy to the children, staff and families. Reports are currently being printed and your child’s annual report will soon come home to you. It has been a great pleasure to read each of the reports and see the progress that students have made throughout this year. Next week is a really big week for us. Presentation Day is on Friday and the annual Graduation Dinner for Year 12 students and their families is on Tuesday evening. This is a very special occasion. While it is always tinged with sadness as we prepare to say good-bye to students and families who have often been with us for many years, it is also a joyous occasion where we all have the chance to dress up and share a lovely evening with our very special students and their wonderful families. This week is our last newsletter for the year. Students’ last day at school is on Wednesday week (18th December) and they return to school on Wednesday 29th January. Next Friday is our Presentation Day and all awards will be presented on that day. You will receive a program listing all the awards on the day. Your child’s proposed classroom, class teacher and learning support officer will be included in each annual report. This year, we have included a photograph of each staff member to help with those students who find change difficult. If you think it will help, it may be an idea to show your children the pictures towards the end of the holidays in the hope that it may assist them to make the transition to the new class. If you know that you are changing address over the break, please let us know next week so that we can advise Assisted School Travel of any changes. If you are going away on holidays before the end of the school term, please also let us know so that we can mail your child’s annual report to you. We hope that everyone will enjoy a very happy holiday break with their families and look forward to working together with you in the new year. Regards
Gwenda Williamson

At Glenvale School, we encourage all students to wear a hat, play in the shade, etc. to protect them on our hot summer’s days. In order to ensure that every child at Glenvale School is safe when outdoors, we ask that parents/carers do two things for us. The first is that we ask that every child who is able to wear sunscreen have a long lasting sunscreen applied just before they leave for school in the morning and the second is that we would like every child to bring an appropriate hat (wide brimmed if possible, but any hat that provides some shade to skin and eyes) to school every day. We understand that some children have difficulty in wearing a hat, but would like to consider that it is our role to teach those children to wear a hat when outdoors. If your child also needs other protection such as protective clothing or sun glasses, please feel free to let your class teacher know and send these in to school also. If you wish us to reapply sunscreen during the day, please send your preferred cream to school and we are happy to do this during the day.
CHRISTMAS
PARTY DAY
TUESDAY 17th December is Mufti Day.
Each year, the lovely ladies from the Gosford Lions Club arrange a visit from Santa Claus and provide all the food for a party lunch for the students at Narara campus (and the Valley View class). At North Entrance, the local Progress Association usually provide the funds to cover the cost of a similar party over there.
These are special times when we first gather together to sing Christmas carols - the last one being Jingle Bells which heralds the arrival of Santa. We then enjoy a very relaxed and happy party time together. The parties are, of course, only for students and staff but our children really have a lovely time and enjoy wearing party clothes on the day.
VOLUNTEERS’ MORNING TEA
Earlier this week, we had two lovely morning teas
where people who visit our school to volunteer their
services to support students’ programs came
along to have morning tea with staff so that we could
say thank you to them. These volunteers are very important to us. Without
their support, many programs could not go
ahead. They take scripture classes (lovely lessons where children enjoy music and talk about such things as happiness, kindness, etc), go with
swimming groups (where we have students who need one-to-one support), help us keep students safe and engaged on outings to the park, shopping centres, etc and assist teachers and learning support
officers with classroom programs. As well as these volunteers who come regularly to the school, we also have those who come on occasions to assist with special outings such as visits to places like the Reptile Park,
Girrakool, Fire Station, etc. We
even have volunteers who do such things as coming along to
school to cut children’s hair in this familiar environment so that they learn to
tolerate or even enjoy the process
and are eventually able to go to the
hairdresser.
