Newsletter T2 W4 Thursday 21 May 2020 All students to return This week we have heard announcements from the Premier and the Education Minister that all students are to return next week, from Monday 25 May. For many families this will be welcome news and they can begin the transition back to learning at school. For some families, however, we know that this won’t be as easy. The government has stated that it is safe for all students to return to school unless they are unwell or are supported by a medical certificate. If families are concerned about their child returning to school, please reach out to the class teacher or your family doctor and get the best advice. Data suggests that a number of students did not engage in Phase 1 of the return to school and our teachers will be in contact with these families to ensure we can have a safe and managed return to school. There will continue to be changes to routines as we see students return. These are listed on the following page, please go over them with your children so that good habits can form in the classroom and the playground and that your child understands drop off and pick up arrangements. Teachers will also be going over these changes next week. These changes are likely to be in place for the remainder of term two. No visitors on site Thank you to everyone who has been respectful in not having parents come onto school grounds this term. We know this has not been easy for many families but we appreciate the efforts made. This will continue for the immediate future so please be ready for this when it is drop off time in the morning. We have worked hard in limiting visitors to the site to be only essential services including Department staff, maintenance contractors and health workers working with students. As a result we won’t be having any public assemblies or functions for the time being. We look forward to seeing our community back on site as soon as practical. We look forward to seeing all our students returning next week. Matthew Ackerman Principal 1

Newsletter T2 W4 Thursday 21 May 2020

All students to return This week we have heard announcements from the Premier and the Education Minister that all students are to return next week, from Monday 25 May.

Please read the following information to assist families in the return to school.

Drop off Students should come into school via the nearest school gate;

● from the beach use Gate 3 lower car park ● via car, bus or pedestrian crossing use Gate 2 main

entrance ● from the roundabout use Gate 1 top car park

Pick Up Students will be staggered in their release each day;

● Kinder and Year 1 will be released to parents from Gate 1 top car park starting at 2.50pm

● Year 2 and 3 will be dismissed from Gate 2 main entrance at 2.55pm with Kiss and Go students

● Year 4,5 and 6 will be dismissed from Gate 3 lower car park at 3.00pm

All students and families are asked to move away from the school as quickly as possible after picking up students.

Borrowed Technology If you borrowed a laptop or an iPad please return the device with your child on Monday. Once in class on Monday, students will be allowed to return the device to Mr Speck in the Library.

If your child is in Kindergarten or Year 1 and you do not wish them to bring the device themselves, parents are allowed to return the device to the Office. We are encouraging parents not to come on site so this should only be for parents of Kinder and Year 1 students if necessary.

Playground ● Students will have access to all areas of the playground and are encouraged to spread out and enjoy the space.  ● Students can play non-contact sport during break times and during sport lessons. ● The play equipment will be open, but monitored and restricted to limit the number of students using it at any one

time. ● The SuperHero playground will be available for K-1 at Recess, K-1 first half of lunch and 2-6 second half of lunch. All

classes can access the playground during class time if appropriate.

Classroom School students do not need to follow physical distancing guidelines, but should follow good hygiene practices like:

● Regularly washing hands ● Avoiding sharing drinks or food ● Coughing or sneezing into your elbow, or a tissue which should be discarded immediately.

Health of students If your child is unwell, do not send them to school. If they are unwell at school you or your nominated emergency contact will need to collect them immediately. Please make sure your contact details are up to date.

If a student is absent without a medical reason for more than three days, this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence and followed up by the school.

If you need any support to get your child back to school, please contact the school on 9349 1569.

School Uniform Does your child come to school looking like this?

With all students coming back next week, please ensure all students are wearing their school uniform. This includes black shoes, white socks and school jumpers. The uniform shop is re-opening so parents can purchase anything they might be missing. See the information later in this newsletter.

Parents and carers are encouraged to complete the enrolment form from our website https://maroubraba-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/enrolment.html

and send the form to the office.

The office can also answer any questions or concerns you have at this time.

The Transition program for students will be held later in the year, at the start of Term 4.

We encourage new families to download the Skoolbag App and add our school to keep up to date with the newsletters and events.

Tell Them From Me Survey The Tell Them From Me student feedback survey is a Department initiative which measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. The survey is for students in Years 3 to 6.

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school.

On Monday, May 25 the Tell Them From Me non-consent form will be sent home to 3-6 parents.

The FAQ’s are available here for parents as well.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/

Copies of the form and FAQs (available in 23 languages) are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents

The survey will be conducted in class during Week 6 and 7 of this term. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. Your child will not take part if either you or your child do not wish. If, during the survey, your child is uncomfortable, he/she can choose to stop the survey at any time. The majority of questions in the survey can be skipped. If you DO NOT want your child to take part in the survey, please complete the Non Consent form and return it to the school by Friday May 29 (Week 5).
