Outside Corona,Inside Zoom13
Article by : Vimal Vashisth
With the outbreak of COVID-19, almost every country in the world was lockeddown. With it came new challenges to the companies in every sector, challengeof keeping the work in progress, challenge of minimizing the loss. Obvious factis that all companies and organizations can’t get away with this situation‘without suffering losses’ but trying was the main strategy. It’s very important for organizations to keep in touch with each other, conductmeetings and have an accessible active community at all times, to worksuccessfully. While nobody expected that there will be a wave of deadly virusthat will cause almost every industry in the market to shut, one main technologyhelped us here a lot. Main technology that helped and its usage rapidlyexpanded was video communication. And, the application that was responsiblefor such expansion was Zoom.Following the lock-down, Zoom app was exploded on the app stores of differentplatforms. leaving its mark on devices that surrounded us. Because it providedeffective video conferencing over the already established apps, such as Skype,Team Link etc., it was used by the MPs in Parliament to the School teachers inthe Secondary Schools. Obviously, it was all over Europe and Asia, too.During this period, through this app, classes were being conducted, meetingswere held, friendly calls were placed, and many families were joined forcelebrations on occasions and grievance upon the death of a close one throughthis app, only. The Zoom app (and less often, other apps) became the medium—and only medium— to communicate with those, who were far from us.This not only showed that the video streaming was a viable option to carry outthese activities, but it can replace many activities which demanded physicalpresence. Even after this pandemic overs, this comfort with usage of Zoom andother alternatives suggests that things are likely to shift our tendency to usethese 'real time video conferencing’ apps more.
But this being said, one aspect to look at is security. Zoom, while hugely popular,is infamous for its past activities that point at its security issues. And, India usedthis app because India yet not possess any real time video communication appin its catalog of ‘Made In India applications’ which seems to rise every other day
with the motto of ‘Digital India’. So, it’s the time when India takes a steptowards making a more secure real time communication applicationthat can fulfill the needs of its 1.3 billion population.
