Family Psychosocial Risk Assessment and Intervention in Pediatric Heart Center

Infants with severe forms of Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) undergo one or more heart surgeries, often involving lengthy hospitalizations and perioperative complications, and can have long-term medical and developmental challenges. Systematic assessment of family psychosocial risk (concerning racial and socioeconomic disparity) and the development of targeted interventions for this population of families are important steps toward improving family-centered care, connecting at-risk families with evidence based psychosocial interventions and, ultimately, reducing health disparities by addressing psychosocial factors that may contribute to disparities.
