March President’s Message

Dues: If you have not paid your dues this year, please do so right away. It takes a lot of time to give you a reminder by phone. Secretary: We still need a recording secretary. Somebody out there must be able to take notes at Board meetings and type them up. If that is you, will you please step up! Wednesday movies: The birth of the 3rd Wednesday of the month old-time movies at 2:00 PM was to provide entertainment for Moraga Movers. Offering these movies requires a lot of effort and some expense for salaries, film rental, website maintenance, and email notifications to our membership, etc. But the patronage of late has been disappointing. If it does not improve Derek Zemrak, the operator, will have to shutter the program. So, if you like old-time movies that remind you of happy times of yore, please support these offerings with your attendance. If you are not attending the classic films because you saw a movie before, that is a mistake. I always marvel at the number of scenes I forgot, and how much I enjoy a second showing. And the showings at the New Rheem Theatre will be a more interesting experience than when you first saw them because of the involvement of our own beloved Larry Swindell, who knows almost everyone in the movie industry. Each program begins with a historical account of the feature. The movie is then screened. At the conclusion of the film, Larry answers the many questions that come up during the presentation. More often than not, the Q & A session continues into the theatre lobby and even onto the sidewalk. Larry is that interesting! So let’s all make an effort to attend these showings! It beats doing the wash, cleaning the attic, painting the garage, and such. If the program is not shut down due to lack of attendance, the upcoming movies will be: Mar 15 The Woman in the Window Ed Robinson, Joan Bennett, Ray Massy Apr 19 The Rainmaker Bert Lancaster, Katherine Hepburn May 17 Maltese Falcon Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor Jun 21 Jezebel Bette Davis, Henry Fonda Jul 19 Yankee Doodle Dandy James Cagney, Joan Leslie Aug 16 42nd Street Warner Baxter, Bebe Daniels Phil

Wednesday, March 8th before midnight. The price of the meal for members is $20 and for guests it is $30 (which includes gratuity and tax). It is payable at the entrance. Please pay by check. It helps our bookkeeping.

If you make your reservations by telephone, you will be talking to an answering machine and you should: • State your name(s) clearly and slowly, spelling first and last; • Provide your telephone number. If we can’t understand your message, it may be the

only way we can identify you; • State clearly the names of other persons, your spouse/partner or other members or

guests for whom you are making reservations; • We will not call you to confirm your reservation unless we have a problem with your

message.

MEMBERSHIP NEWS Norma Claassen

Don’t forget to pay your dues. The deadline has been extended to March 31st. If you have not paid by then, you will no longer receive any newsletters. (A renewal form is at the back of this newsletter.) The dues amounts have not changed: a single member is $25 and a couple is $45. If you pay for your dues at a dinner meeting, please write two separate checks; one for the dues and one for the dinner. This helps us keep track of the payments. Please remember that the guest fee to attend the monthly dinner meetings is $30. All the more reason to have your guest join the Moraga Movers. Also, if your guest does not appear for the meal and you did not cancel, you will be billed for the meal. We have to give an accurate count to the caterer and have to pay for the meals that are not consumed.
