Randy began his talk by describing the overallsuccess of the basketball program over the past sixyears. He described the difficulty in recruiting topplayers to a school that does not have the facilitiesand support like larger schools such as BYU. Theprogram has been successful by looking in otherplaces for talent. He stressed the importance ofcharacter, academics and leadership in puttingtogether a winning team.

Randy highlighted the accomplishments of teamstar Matt Dellavedova over the past four years.Matt is currently vying for a spot on the ClevelandCavaliers in the NBA. Three former Gaels havemade it to the NBA over the past few years.

Although the program has had many verysuccessful seasons, Randy feels that the currentteam is a solid foundation for the future. He alsohighlighted the fact that St. Mary’s has excelled inother sports as well including golf, tennis and track, winning twelve conference titles in the past fiveyears.

St. Mary’s is expanding the current gym facility aswell as building a new rec center on campus. These new facilities will go a long way in attractinggreat athletic talent to the school as well asproviding venues for community events.

Randy urged club members to come out andsupport the Gaels this season!!
