SPOTLIGHT ON BOUNCE BACK! WELLBEING AND RESILIENCE PROGRAM

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Bullying is everyone’s problem. Our teachers take reports of bullying seriously and respond to incidents quickly in order to stop it so everyone is safe and happy. If someone in our school is being bullied, it spoils things for all of us. So we all have to work together to make sure that nobody gets bullied. Bullying is an expression of power and thrives on an audience. Bullies frequently assert their superiority before an audience called bystanders. Bystanders can be part of the problem because they reinforce the bully’s behavior by their laughter or their silent acknowledgment of the bully’s power. Bystanders can help stop Bullying. If you don’t do anything to help someone who is being bullied and bully someone too, then you have made a bad decision. You can’t blame other people for your bad choices. Even if you take part in the smallest way by laughing you will be part of the problem. It is not OK to say “someone else started it” or “someone else made me do it” or “everyone else was doing it too”. If you are a bystander and choose not to do anything to stop it, then you are guilty of hurting that person as well. Bystanders should show disgust and find the courage to tell the person that what they are doing is wrong and mean and that they should stop it. Let the teacher know if someone is being bullied. If you know that another child is being bullied, then the responsible thing to do is to ask a teacher for help. This is not dobbing, but it is being very helpful. By telling a teacher, you are trying to help someone who is in trouble. It takes courage and kindness to do this for someone. Teachers need to know about bullying so that they can help the person being bullied and counsel the person doing the bullying so the behaviour stops. Even if only one person reports bullying, this can make a big difference in making sure everyone feels safe and happy. Family Activity Please discuss the important role of the bystander with your child and discus what he or she will do if they see or hear bullying happening.

THE FOCUS FOR THIS WEEK IS: HELP TO STOP BULLYING

Values that underpin Bounce Back!

Student Engagement and Wellbeing

Introducing…

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Monmia is a Bucket Filling School! We fill buckets and we don’t dip!

We use our lid to keep our bucket full and keep the drops in! I love how the Bucket Fillers Philosophy has been embraced by our school community this year. I know that we can keep filling other people’s buckets and make Monmia Primary School a warm, positive and caring place to be. When we all fill other people’s buckets then all community members benefit from these acts of kindness. There is so much to acknowledge at Monmia Primary School! Here are some ‘drops’ for you to read.

Remember that when you fill someone else’s bucket, you fill yours as well so keep filling buckets Monmia! Happy Bucket Filling!

Kind Regards,

Lucy Vorpasso

Assistant Principal - Student Engagement and Wellbeing

Education Week

A big thank you to all the families who attended the opening of Education Week on Monday, at our whole school assembly. It was a delight to see many families take advantage of our open classrooms all day every day during Education Week. Teachers and students alike were pleased to see the family involvement during this week and look forward to seeing even more families next year. We value your thoughts and feedback and are asking, “What did you think about Education Week at Monmia P.S?” Send your thoughts via your child using this return slip.

Just a reminder that this year Family & Friends have two prizes that we are giving away to two lucky winners who return their money within the due dates.

The first prize was given away earlier this week to our lucky winner Phillip. M of 3/4D.

The prize was a exciting Smiggle gift pack.

We are also giving away a SECOND mystery prize to everyone who brings their money back by Friday 3rd June. Your names will go into the draw and again, the winner will

be selected at assembly on Monday 6th June. So get selling if you want to be in the draw to win our amazing second prize.

CARNIVAL COMMITTEE

The Monmia carnival is approaching in October and we are hoping to add some more enthusiastic helpers to our fabulous Carnival Committee. Meetings are held every month where we discuss ideas and possibilities and make decisions about the carnival which is

due to be held on Sunday 16th October. If you are able to commit some time towards this wonderful event please come along to the Community room on Monday

20th June at 6pm for our next meeting or you can email Kirsty [email protected] or Diana [email protected] for more details.

BUNNINGS BBQ

Monmia will be holding a sausage sizzle at Bunnings at Watergardens on Sunday 31st July. This is a fantastic opportunity for Monmia. We are hoping to get some parents who are free on this day to come volunteer some time to cook sausages and/or sell the food and drinks. Even if its just an hour of your time it would be a huge help. If you are free and happy to dedicate some time on this day please return the volunteer request form

that went home last week as soon as possible.

OSHC TIMES Hello everyone

This term has been really great as we have lots to do. Week 1 saw all learning about endangered and protected animals.

Some children did not know that a lot of animals fall in this category and they found it new. Some such animals are the

whales, bears and tigers.

Week 2 was all about ANZAC Day. A large painting of ‘field of poppies’ were done by all children and it looked beauti-

ful. Week 3 children learnt about the importance of family and its values. Week 4 became more exciting with mother’s

day activities. Mothers were happy to receive foam daffodil flowers in vases at the end of this week and were thrilled to

know that their children made it for them. All children talked about their plans for mother’s day.

Week 5 solar powered woodcraft windmill was given to each child to be constructed. Educators helped the younger chil-

dren and the following week the children were telling how they felt when their windmill worked under the sun. They

were all super excited!

Week 6 & 7 was all about kindness and education respectively. Posters and kindness board was made. This week (week

8) we are learning about snow formation in line with the winter season!

Here are some pictures of the recent activities.

Updating enrolment details It would be greatly appreciated if all parents can go to parents’ portal on campaustralia website to check and update their

children’s enrolment forms. Important details such as medical conditions, doctor’s details, changes in contact details and

pick up authorisations must be updated to ensure smooth operation of service. Alternatively you can call the customer

service and update details as well.
