At the end of this decade: our Year Prep students will have completed their primary schooling and would be starting Year 10 in 2030 our year 6 students will have graduated from secondary school and been out of school for 3 years, perhaps at university, perhaps working or even travelling the world. As parents and guardians what do you hope this decade will bring to your child/ren? Ten years seem a long way away however, from experience they fly past very quickly. Here is a focus and helpful question with which to have your children start and end the day: TODAY IS GOING TO BE A GREAT DAY (positive affirmation and growth mindset) WHAT WENT WELL TODAY? I use these to start and end my day to increase my positivity. It helps me to be grateful and motivated each day. MONMIA MESSENGER

Dear Monmia Families,

Welcome back everyone to a brand new year and new decade! At the end of this decade:

our Year Prep students will have completed their primary schooling and would be starting Year 10

in 2030

our year 6 students will have graduated from secondary school and been out of school for 3 years,

perhaps at university, perhaps working or even travelling the world.

Welcome back to Daniela Stojanovski as the Student Administrator and to Cathy Swanson for continuing with the Japanese Languages program. Welcome also to Violeta Larmer who has been appointed as the Physical Education teacher. Welcome also to Anne Jose who has replaced Natalia Caridi while she is on long service leave.

THIS WEEK I AM GRATEFUL FOR:

Our school being safe from any damaging weather events such as fires, floods or vandalism.

Daniel and Richard our caretakers cleaning up the school following the rain and dust storms.

Our staff preparing their learning spaces in readiness for the children coming to school on

Wednesday.

Anja, Daniela, Emmy and Leanne organising and facilitating the school’s Book Pack Day.

Family and Friends welcoming our Prep families with a Morning Tea. Thank you Dora, Diana, Kelli

and Pragya.

Lucia Vorpasso and Vineta Mitrevski organising our school’s Sizzling Start with our BBQ

sausages!!

Our Family & Friends volunteers Dora, Diana, Samantha, Pragya and Belinda who cooked the

sausages for our hungry students!! Thank you to Violeta Larmer who helped serve our children.

Our lovely Crossing Supervisors who are helpful and kind with our children and their families.

Michelle, in the canteen, for providing staff with a lovely lunch on Tuesday and always making

healthy food for our children.

Whilst the media has been reporting widely on this, as the Principal I am following the advice from the Department of Education and Training, who has consulted with Victoria’s Chief health Officer and the Department of Health and Human Services. The Australian Government has advised that there is no cause for alarm with respect to the coronavirus and that the risk to the Australian public remains relatively low. Their advice is to remind families about the importance of hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene to protect against any infectious disease.

Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing with a tissue, or cough into your elbow.

Dispose of the tissue into a bin and wash your hands afterwards.

Wash your hands regularly after using the toilet and before eating.

Every classroom has hand sanitiser for students to use. As a school, we will provide students with clear instructions around good hygiene practice. There will be posters placed in each classroom, as well as our toilets to remind students. If you or your family have recently travelled to Wuhan City in china or had close contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus in the last 14 days, please call me and let me know immediately. Please read the attached notice on the Coronavirus from the Education Department. I will continue to keep our community informed if there are any changes as advised by the Australian Government.

PRIVACY INFORMATION for PARENTS and GUARDIANS During the ordinary course of your child’s attendance at our school, school staff will collect your child’s personal and health information when necessary to educate your child, or to support your child’s social and emotional wellbeing or health in the school context. Such information will also be collected when required to fulfil a legal obligation, including duty of care, anti-discrimination law and occupational health and safety law. If that information is not collected, the school may be unable to provide optimal education or support to your child, or fulfil those legal obligations. For example, health information may be collected through the school nurse, primary welfare officer or wellbeing staff member. If your child is referred to a specific health service at school, such as a Student Support Services officer, the required consent will be obtained. Our school also collects information provided by parents and carers through the School Entrance Health Questionnaire (SEHQ) and the Early Childhood Intervention Service (ECIS) Transition Form. Our school may use online tools, such as apps and other software, to effectively collect and manage information about your child for teaching and learning purposes, parent communication and engagement; student administration; and school management purposes. When our school uses these online tools, we take steps to ensure that your child’s information is secure. If you have any concerns about the use of these online tools, please contact us. School staff will only share your child’s personal or health information with other staff who need to know to enable the school to educate or support your child, or fulfil a legal obligation. When our students transfer to another Victorian government school, personal and health information about that student will be transferred to that next school. Transferring this information is in the best interests of our students and assists that next school to provide optimal education and support to students. In some limited circumstances, information may be disclosed outside of the school (and outside of the Department of Education and Training). The school will seek your consent for such disclosures unless the disclosure is allowed or mandated by law. Our school values the privacy of every person. When collecting and managing personal and health information, all school staff must comply with Victorian privacy law. For more information about privacy including about how to access personal and health information held by the school about you or your child, see our school’s privacy policy: https://www.education.vic.gov.au/Pages/schoolsprivacypolicy.aspx Throughout this notice, ‘staff’ includes principals, teachers, Student Support Service officers, youth workers, social workers, nurses and any other allied health practitioners and all other staff at our school.
