Lab Safety Precautions must be followed.Goggles and apron must be worn, while performing lab.

Lab #1: PennyObserve the appearance of the penny. Record your observation in your journal. Pour vinegar into beaker. Drop in the penny. Record your observations in your journal. Add the salt to the beaker. Vigorously stir

the solution. Record your observations in your journal. Do not rinse penny. Set aside to dry. When finished, rinse the beaker and lay on paper towel to dry.Lab #2: Baking Soda and Vinegar

Add the vinegar to the plastic bag. Do you notice any change in the vinegar? Record your observations in your journal. Add the baking soda to the bag. Close the bag, immediately. Record your observations in

your journal. When finished, empty the bag in the sink and throw the bag in the trash.

Clean your area and return to your seat.

OWhat was done?OWhat can you observe?OIs it a physical or chemical change?

OHow do you know?OWhat else have you learned during the demonstration?

WOD- Carbohydrate

Any of a large group of organic compounds in foods and living tissues and including sugars, starch, and cellulose. They contain hydrogen and oxygen in the same ratio as water (2:1) and typically can be broken down to release energy in the body.

•WOD- Amino Acid•the building blocks of proteins; some can be synthesized in the body (nonessential amino acids) and others cannot and are thus essential components of the diet (essential amino acids)

•WOD- Fatty Acid•Use your vocabulary cards

Fatty acids are the building blocks of the fat in our bodies. During digestion, the body breaks down fats into fatty acids, which can then be absorbed into the blood.Fatty acids function in energy storage. If glucose (a type of sugar) isn't available for energy, the body uses fatty acids to fuel the cells instead.

Agreement Circle• Energy is stored in an organism.

• When energy changes from one form to another, heat is usually given off.

• Sunlight is radiant energy.• Digestion is a complex process controlled

by your brain• Plants make their own food,

whereas animals obtain food by eating other organisms

• WOD- Calorie–the amount of heat (energy)

required to raise the temperature of 1 gram (g) of water 1 degree Celsius (°C).
