I consider myself privileged to have had the opportunity to lead Casey Grammar over the last eight years. The school has grown and developed, and we have an environment that promotes learning, underpinned by a strong pastoral care approach. The high quality of our facilities and our extracurricular opportunities also contribute to the learning that encompasses the complete life of a student. It is with some sadness that I leave Casey Grammar, but I will cherish the memories of the years I have spent here. Giving young people foundations for life is a team effort, and I have appreciated the dedication of the staff who have worked with me. There are many people who have contributed to the development of the school since its foundation twenty- four years ago. My hope for every young person who spends years of their education here is that they will make the values that Casey Grammar encourages a firm foundation on which to build success in life – the values of respect, integrity, courage and excellence. I know that Casey Grammar will continue to move forward and be a school which has student learning and wellbeing at its heart and I wish the school community well, under the leadership of Mr Richard Baird, in the next stage of the school s growth and development. It’s hard to believe that it is already time for the final newsletter. There is still a lot to happen before our last day together and we are enjoying a range of different opportunities to prepare for Christmas and be a part of our wider community. In the last couple of weeks, the Chapel has become a bit of a hub over different lunchtimes and recesses as we have hung decorations and prepared props for the upcoming Chapel services. It was lovely to see some of the Primary students voluntarily giving up their lunchtime to help string baubles along our windows to help get in the festive spirit. Baskets have been distributed by the SLT in the Primary School along with details for the family attached to each class. If all Primary families could please sign up to an item or two and bring them by December 4, that would be much appreciated. On Remembrance Day, two of our students came to the Cranbourne War Memorial to lay a wreath on behalf of our school community in order to acknowledge those who sacrifice in so many ways for our country. Grateful thanks to Shaylah and Jack for volunteering to do this. They did so respectfully and represented Casey Grammar School very well.

As we move towards the holidays and festivities, let us remember that it is ‘Unto us a child is born, unto us a child is given’ (Isaiah 9:7). The gift of Jesus as a baby, is the gift of God become one of us, showing us what God is like. The wider parent community is invited to celebrate this gift at either the Primary Service (7 December 9:00-9:30) or the Secondary Service (7 December 11:40-12:10pm). Finally, I want to acknowledge that we have various members of our school community concluding their time with us at the end of this year, including Mrs Margaret Buttigieg. Each person in some way contributes to who we become, but as Principal Mrs Buttigieg has contributed in a plethora of ways to the growth of the school into what we know it as today. We pray God’s richest blessings on each person as they leave, and we are thankful for the gifts they have bought to our school. God’s blessings on you all during this Christmas season Monique Riviere-Pendle

State Primary Track and Field Championships

This year we had two primary students competing at the prestigious State Primary Track and Field Championships held at MSAC in Albert Park on Monday 30 October. Wadah (Bob) competed in the 11-year-old 800m, and Jack Brewster in the 9/10 year Boys Triple Jump. Both boys were forced to compete in difficult conditions (extremely wet), but their training paid off and they stayed focused. We would like to congratulate them both for reaching this stage of the competition and representing the school. A special mention to Jack as he was awarded a Bronze medal in Triple Jump. Music

It has been an exciting and busy period for the Music Department over the past three weeks. Our End of Year Concert was a wonderful evening, with a variety of musical items from all of our school ensembles and senior Music students.

Both the Intermediate Band and Training Band performed at the Victorian Schools Music Festival which was held at Deakin Edge, Federation Square and last week we held three Lunchtime Concerts. Congratulations to all the students who performed at these events. Their conduct and performances were outstanding and they should all be very proud of their performances. I would also like to recognise and congratulate the following students who undertook an AMEB exam this year. It demonstrates their commitment and passion for music:

Jordan - 2nd Grade Saxophone

Cooper - 2nd Grade Saxophone and Cello

Elizabeth - 1st Grade Flute

Janice - 3rd Grade Flute

Tharushi - 3rd Grade Flute

JoJo - 3rd Grade Flute

Olivia - 1st Grade Piano

Holly - 1st Grade Piano

Shayla - 4th Grade Piano Simon Chiodo - Music Coordinator

Today, one in seven Australian children and young people are living in poverty1, where even life's basics are hard to come by.

When families are experiencing financial disadvantage children can fall behind with their learning, leaving them more vulnerable to

experiencing hardship themselves later in the life.

Research shows children and young people living in disadvantage have access to fewer books and learning materials in the home.

Access to support and resources forms the foundation for learning. In many cases, the parents of disadvantaged children may not

have the skills or experience to support their child’s education. As these children get older, they have fewer role models, and access

to mentors and networks that are critical for creating educational opportunities to help them build their aspirations and be motivated

to learn.

Keeping this in mind, The Student Leadership set out this year, to raise money, for the Smith Family. Through running two Pop-Up Canteens in the secondary school, $500 will be donated to the Smith Family this year to assist in the education of a young Australian student. The Student Leaders would like to thank all students for purchasing from the Pop-Up Canteens and therefore donating to a worthy

cause. We hope to continue this worthwhile and fairly ‘yummy’ fundraiser in 2018.

Year 2 Polly Woodside Excursion

On Wednesday 22 November, Year 2 ventured into the Docklands to visit the Polly Woodside cargo ship! Students learnt about the tough conditions as a sailor and the

treacherous conditions in which they lived! Highlights included scrubbing the decks, discovering the captain’s quarters, and learning how to steer the ship towards both Port and Starboard!

Year 1 Silly Science

On Wednesday 22 of November, Year 1 visited the Science building and undertook a range of experiments. We were measuring the vinegar for the rocket. Then we put baking soda in the rocket. It blasted off! Alex and Akam We are playing with magnets. Magnets have a North and South. North repels North and South repels South. North and South attract together. Murphy and Sehaj Slime feels weird, soft and squishy. We used Borax, PVA glue, hot water and food dye to make it. Felicity and Shenae
