PRESIDENTS NEWS APRIL 2013 – EASTER RALLY!!!
Hi to all our members and families..... Hope you all had a wonderful Easter with family and friends and now looking
forward to our April rally. We are lucky enough to have another specialist instructor that Amie has organised -
Danielle Poole which we welcome to Monbulk Pony Club.
The Annual General Meeting will be held at lunchtime – so all positions will be open and all adults will be required
to attend. We have had many new families join our club over the last year and we encourage anyone to become
involved in the committee because it does affect the way the club is run and ultimately affects your child who is
riding at the club. It’s OK to ask where help is needed within the club and also there are many people within the
committee to give support in new positions – any questions just ask myself or Naomi our secretary!! See everyone at
the AGM lunchtime at the rally!!!
A huge thankyou goes to our DC Amie, who is madly getting organised to go on an overseas trip, for the last year of
hard work, organisation, and dedication to our club and for making the role of the DC such a personal
appointment. The role of the DC will be appointed by committee at the first meeting after the AGM and if any of
our families would like to express their interest or would like to discuss the appointment please see me at the APRIL
RALLY – IT IS A POPULAR POSITION!!!

We will be having some work done at the pony club before our competition between the 12th and 20
th of April – our
bottom arena will be re-surfaced and levelled and our showjumping arena will be having some surface maintance
completed – this will make a huge difference to our riders and the surface they will be riding on – a big
improvement for our club!
We would also like to wish all our riders good luck that are competing in either the Musical or Games Competitions
which are being held at Dingley the weekend before our competition. Our riders have been practising for weeks and
the huge effort and commitment from the parents must be recognised. Thank you also to Sally and Emma for their
tuition and Loreto for taking on the task of being the Captain!

DC Report April… Hello everyone and welcome to the April Easter SJ rally… I would like to welcome Danielle Poole in the SJ arena and thank Emma, Teena, Yolanda, Tanya and Cheryl for their continuing flexibility and hard work. Danielle is a local rider who offers private lessons in Macclesfield in dressage and show jumping. There are a few changes to the rally plan this month so please read my report carefully. Our focus is Show jumping for our May comp and Games and Musical practice for Dingley on the 28th. Good luck to all riders competing in either Games or a Musical ride. Dingley PC had lots of parking so go along and support your club members if you have nothing else on that day. Thank you to Loreto Hosking for being the Captain of the volunteers for the day and to Sally and Emma for coaching the riders on the weekends. After lunch Bernborough has a theory lesson with Sally so bring along music, material, costume
ideas for that lesson. Wakeful will continue with their riding skills and will have a Games lesson with Sally after lunch, and parents will all need to lead in this lesson. Gunsynd and Archer will join for the SJ lesson so neither group misses out on our SJ instructor. Gunsynd and Archer riders not sitting their C* certificate will do their theory with Yolanda.
Carbine, Sunline and Pharlap will join together for this rally for theory and SJ after lunch. The theory session will start off as a full group and then break off with Yolanda, Emma and Amie to carefully go through your workbooks so you can receive your certificates. D and D* workbooks must be completed and I really, really want to see PHOTOs of your gorgeous equine friends! Certificates are an important component of pony club so riders progress with their knowledge and riding skills. At 9.30am these members will tack up and go to the bottom arena for gear check and a lesson in trooping! Check out the PCAV website at http://www.ponyclubvic.org.au/?Page=161 to find out more. “Troop Drill provides a very
satisfactory, safe and quick method of moving large groups of children from one point to another. Furthermore it is a satisfactory method of warming up horses before more concentrated work is
commenced.” After lunch you will start off with a detailed explained course walk with our guest Danielle. Use this time to ask questions about how and why we walk a course, and what to look for. In riding order you will then present for your first round of SJ. You will warm up in the Poles and Grid arena and Yolanda will be supervising you, teaching you warm up etiquette and helping you resolve any issues that pop up during your show jumping round. This will be great practice for the May SJ comp that is only a month away.
Anyone needing grading, especially for the May SJ comp will need to let me know in the morning and arrive with a grading request form so I make sure I can slot you in. Here are a few dates to assist with planning over the next few months and thank you to the people that let me know in advance they won’t be riding at rally.

28 April Games, Flat & Musical Ride at Dingley.
4 May Working Bee 10am-2pm and Set Up 2-6pm
5 May SJ Comp and Special Event
Out n About –Anyone else with stories about their comps is most welcome to share with us at the lunch time meeting, just see Michelle or myself before the meeting. I have a question for our members…Can you feed grass clippings to a horse? Why or why not? The person who wishes to share the answer at lunchtime gets a prize. Annual Fees – (Junior): 1st Child $350; 2nd Child: $330; 3rd Child: $310 (Associate 18yr & over) $370 (new member $430 :July-June) Fees comprise a $115 (Junior) and $135 (Associate 18 yrs and over) fee payable to the Pony Club
Association of Victoria to cover administration and 24/7 personal accident/riding insurance. (Please
see attached PCAV outline of fee structures)
The remainder goes to paying instructors, buying and maintaining equipment etc. & rallies. On
average, over 11 rallies per year, you receive four hours of group instruction at each rally for a cost
of approx. $20. To maintain this service requires all member families to volunteer time and
resources to keep the club running, and to fulfil our obligations to the Pony Club Association of
Victoria.
I will have the updated Membership Renewal/Agreement forms for the 2013/2014 year available at
the March Rally, and will also email these out to members in order for families to have filled out
and return with fees at the April rally.
Please note it is very important that the form and fees are returned to me by this time, as the
Membership Returns with payment has to be submitted to the PCAV in May. It also means that you
are fully insured then to begin riding from the July Rally. If your fees aren’t paid by this time, you
won’t be able to ride at the July Rally.
Out and About Results Welcome – if you are out there competing in PCAV, EFA, Inter-School or Open comps we would love to hear about how you are doing! These results encourage our clubs younger riders to
get out there and give it a go! AND you deserve the credit for your efforts!
Janis Hosking and Merlin successfully completed their first Grade 4 horse trials together at Tooradin, finishing on their dressage score in 10th place in a field of 25. Erica and Daisy won the dressage phase of
the Grade 3, and Erica and Tammy placed 5th in the Grade 4.
Monbulk put on a great show at the Lilydale Horse Trials on Sunday March 24. Erica and Tammy won section 1 of the Grade 4, winning a lovely, but very large, rug! Bek Staindl and Playfair placed 2nd in a strong Grade 2, up from 3rd after the dressage. Jasmine Clark and Miss Molly placed 6th in Section 2 of Grade 4 after going clear in show jumping and cross country, pulling up from 18th after the dressage. Janis and Merlin had a PB 2nd in the dressage phase. Liana and Blazer competed in the Grade 3, but were foiled, as many were, by the ditch. Jasmine Grogan also competed in the Grade 5. Erica and Daisy were unlucky to have the worst of the wind for their dressage test but still managed to be second going into the show jumping phase but a rail and a couple of stops on XC put them out of the running.
After a great long weekend away with the Wilhelm's & Wiltshire families, trail riding and swiming in the river Charlie showed what a versatile pony he is and attended the Mark Sagona Memorial Horse Show to raise funds for the Leukemia Foundation. Charlie remembered he is a show pony and not a wild brumby and performed perfectly to take out the Reserve Champion Ridden Exhibit and went then took Charlotte on to Reserve Champion Rider.

Conditions of membership and Declaration – As a condition of membership, we understand we are required to provide assistance in the following;-
Remain at the rally to encourage my child in training, and to be available in the case of injury
Assist with ‘set up’ and ‘pack up’ when rostered on for duty, or when asked for assistance
Assist the instructors with equipment changes when required eg. Pole stewards
Attend one of the 2 scheduled working bees per year (nominate below)
