Presidents Report August newsletter
Hello Pony/Horse lovers and the ones
who support them!
As some of you may or may not have
noticed or heard, our president Trish
McKay has stepped down from her role
as president and has decided to leave
MPC. We are sad to see Trish and Lilly go
but she says that was the best for her and
her family. If people have any questions
to how or why please ask one of the
committee members directly instead of
assuming why to reduce any negative
talk.
We do like to thank Trish for all she’s
done in such a short time being president
and we will certainly miss her enthusiasm
and organising skills. Trish did an
amazing job organising the working bee
and winter show, together with some
other great people from our club. I will
miss Lilly standing at the canteen asking
for baked potato and carrots.
Trish, we hope you will come by and visit
us at one stage. We wish you and Lilly all
the best for the future and hope to see
you around in the horse world.
That leaves me to introduce myself (as
“fill in” president for the time being).
Most of you already know me (Tasja) and
my daughter Femke, as we are with MPC
for the last 5 years. We have been coming
here with great pleasure to those
beautiful grounds. Femke has been into
horses since she could say the word
“horse”, me not so. I had to learn
everything what there is to know about
them and being part of a PC helps kids
and parents to learn about those beautiful
animals.
I’m mostly seen in the canteen preparing
and serving food out as that’s my role as
well.
As I’m filling in at the moment, it’s not my
intention to stay MPC president as I like
my role in the canteen. I also served my
years in big roles for different clubs!
Therefore we are looking for a person to
stand up and fill in the role as president.
So if you feel this is something you can
do for our club and work with a small but
capable committee please let one of us
know.
Although we were not able to attend the
show (holiday priorities!) it was a great
day, I heard.
I would like to thank everyone that came
along to ride/help and made the day a
success. Special thanks to people behind
the scenes, Charlotte and Julie, and Trish
for putting this together.
Awards night was held 2 weeks ago, it
was great to see most of you attending.
Thanks to all the families who brought a
salad or desert.
Thanks to Alison for organising the
trophies and do all the adding of the
points and all the rest that is involved,
being DC at awards night. Thanks for
Brooke and Stuart organising the rest
(food, venue, goodie bags, etc.). And a
big congrats to Patrick Goggin winning
the Kenny lane High point award, well
done. Congratulations to all the kids with
and/or without awards for doing such a
great job on your horses and off learning
about everything what is involved with
riding, caring, keeping horses!
So, camp at Gladysdale, PCAV park this
August rally, I hope everyone will enjoy
this great opportunity to ride and explore
this great venue. Also it’s a great way of
getting to know each other better, kids
and parents. I hope we can create a
relaxed atmosphere and that all will enjoy
themselves this weekend. A big thank you
to Brooke and Julie for organising this.
A couple of things I would love to point
out which I think are important for
everyone to keep in mind;
• If there are any problems or
questions please talk or ask the
person who can help you with this,
try to avoid negative talks or gossip.
• Try to remember that we are all
volunteers in a club for our kids, and
we all try our best to make it work.
But sometimes decisions need to be
made and cannot always be
beneficial for all of us, sometimes
we need “ to put some water into the
wine” (nice Dutch expression
straight translated into English)
• Treat others how you would like to
be treated
• Help and encourage each other in
and outside the club.
• Last but not least, have fun and
enjoy your ride!
Also, Sunday the 18th of August mini
Mornington HT are on, this is a great little
event to go to if you would like to see if
eventing is something for you. You can
enter with some friends as a team (3 or 4)
or individual.
For coming weekend, the camp, make
sure: That you bring enough warm
clothing for you and your horse. Enough
hay and/or food for your best friend. A
water bucket.
Hope you all have fun and enjoy
yourselves and as the Dutch expression
says,
“Life is a party but you do need to hang up
the decoration yourself”!
Till next time, Tasja Blom
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to August and a respite to the
wet weather I hope, as we are all over
muddy paddocks and collapsing trees!
The July rally was a bit of fun with the
cross country course opened up for the
younger two groups, Clydesdale and
Welsh. It was a very challenging session
for some of the riders, but I am very proud
of how all the riders gave it a go, and there
were lots of smiling faces at the end.
Thanks to Liana and Katie for working so
well with these groups, and helping them
achieve a success - for many the first time
out on a cross country course!
Saf and Charlie worked with the older two
groups, Shetland and Friesian, in learning
how to set up a P&G and jumping course,
selecting lines, choosing a pace, and again
some big challenges were faced and
overcome.
Welcome to Lucy and Ruby who joined us
from the Macclesfield Pony Club - they
joined in with the Friesian group, where
Ella made them very welcome!
At the end of the day, all riders were
welcome to have a go at the P&G and the
jumping course that the Shetland and
Friesian groups had set up. Some of the
Welsh riders had a go at the P&G course,
and Ella was very impressive riding the
Jumping course.
Our awards night was a very special
evening - congratulations to all members
for your achievements over the last 12
months. It has been a great privilege to
watch you all develop as riders and
members of the club. Hopefully you are all
energised for the next 12 months, and we
will continue the journey .......
This month we have Saf and Katie with us
at Gladysdale for the August camp. It will
be a more relaxed program, with the
Shetland and Friesian groups joining
together for the day with Saf, and the
Welsh and Clydesdale groups joining
together for the day with Katie. You will
have the opportunity to choose activities
with your instructor, including the cross-
country course, trail riding, working in the
indoor arena, and show jumping.
I am sure it will be a great weekend!!
Let me know if there is something special
you would like to see included in upcoming
rallies, or a specialised clinic, and we will
do our best to accommodate.
We have a couple of show jumping clinics
tentatively booked in for Saturday 17th and
24th August with Saf, and so long as we
have enough interest these will go ahead,
so if you are wanting to enhance your
show jumping skills, and get some
experience then these are the clinics for
you!
We are also planning some freshman
dressage days, to assist those who are
wanting to run through a particular
dressage test/s and get some feedback,
without the stress of an actual competition.
See you on the weekend!
Alison
Our annual Awards night took place last Saturday night, and what
a great night it was. We had a very good turn out with lots of
people enjoying the meal and company.
Congratulations to all of the award recipients, very well deserved!.
Thank you to everyone who made the effort to come along and
have a good evening!

Benjamin, Patrick and Sarah attendedthe Macclesfield Pony club July rally aspart of our rally share program. The daystarted as pony club rallies do with amad rush to get horses and kidsdelivered to the grounds.
The first session that Sarah and Patrick didwas a groundwork introduction by NormGlenn, they learnt some techniques andthe importance of ground control withtheir horses.
This was followed by a Dressage sessionwith Ellyse, and then a choice ofshowjumping or the jumping lane. Thejumping lane is a 60m long laneway inwhich the instructors can place jumps.Normally arranged in bounce pattern thisis an excellent tool for teaching the horseand rider rhythm and balance.
Skilled riders are able to ride and jumpthe lane with no hands!

ATTN Yard users
If you use our yards, please DO NOT throw manure
over the fence towards the road.
The area immediately behind our yards and up to
the road is one of the most important environmental
areas in the Yarra Valley. There is a rare species of
plant that has only been found in this one area. If
you throw manure into this area you will introduce
weeds which may destroy this plant.
Our lease on the grounds will be cancelled if this
continues, and your club will have to relocate.
PLEASE remove any manure you may have
accidentally left behind in the past. The area on the
roadside of the yards must be kept manure free.
PLEASE put all manure in our dedicated manure
yard.
Please arrive promptly to each lesson, if you are late, please askyour instructor before joining the group if already started
If you arrive early for your session or the instructor is not present, youmay enter the arena and wait, but you must only walk or halt. Youmust not use any equipment without the instructor present.
Gear check will be done by your instructor, you may enter thearena prior to your session, but please be aware there may be nosupervision until the instructor is present.
• Gear check is focused on your safety and your horses welfare. Ifyour gear is either not safe or not suitable for your horse then youwill not be allowed to ride until the issue is rectified.
• If you are late and miss gear check – you MUST contact the DCand arrange a gear check before you commence riding
Have your horse and yourself looking neat and presentable foreach lesson
If you are leaving early or not attending a lesson your group hasbeen allocated, please let your instructor know and advise DC.
Come to each lesson with a positive attitude and open mind! We
Never Stop Learning and each session is a new opportunity.
