Efficient Use of Lip AreaTraditional Shape (Left):

The corners of the rectangular-shaped lip areseldom used. As a wheel rolls to one of thosecorners, other wheels are already off of themat.

The front lip is curved to accommodate thecircular footprint of today’s 5-star wheelbases found on nearly all office chairs.

Similar to the lip, the back corners cannotaccommodate the round footprint of thecircular wheel base.

Choose the Right Mat for Your Floor

Is your floor carpet or hard surface?

Chair mats for carpet are designed with a “gripper” backing that holds the mat in place. Hardfloor mats are smooth or lightly textured on the underside to avoid damage to hard floorsurfaces. Never use a “gripper” backed mat directly on hard floors or on an area rug over ahard floor surface.

What is your carpet pile depth?

Understanding your carpet pile depth is critically important to the performance of your chairmat. To determine the thickness of your carpet pile, place a penny on it’s edge down in thecarpet pile (like measuring a tire tread). Example: If Lincoln’s chin is above the carpet pile, yourcarpet is 1/4″ or less.
