The Microsoft Official Academic Course series is a complete

program for instructors and institutions to prepare and deliver

great courses on Microsoft software technologies.

With MOAC, we recognize that, because of the rapid pace of

change in the technology and curriculum developed by Microsoft,

there is an ongoing set of needs beyond classroom instruction

tools for an instructor to be ready to teach the course. MOAC

endeavors to provide solutions for all these needs in a systematic

manner in order to ensure a successful and rewarding course

experience for both instructor and student—technical and

curriculum training for instructor readiness with new software

releases, the software itself for student use at home for building

hands-on skills, assessment and validation of skill development,

and a great set of tools for delivering instruction in the classroom

and lab. All are important to the smooth delivery of an interesting

course on Microsoft software, and all are provided with the

Microsoft Official Academic Course program.

The MOAC IT Professional Series program covers courses on Microsoft software used by enterprise employees working to plan, design, implement, and administer the software infrastructure businesses use to run their network, websites, e-commerce sites, databases, email, intranet, and firewall. Job titles for these courses are: support technician, network

administrator, network engineer, and database administrator.

Software covered in the MOAC IT Pro program is: Windows client, Windows Server, Exchange Server, and SQL Server, in the newest and previous version.

Programs in schools may be called networking, network

administration, desktop support, and sometimes help desk. All MOAC IT Pro products map to the Microsoft Unified

Skills Domain (USD) for each technology, the same market researched curriculum for planning the certification exams and the rest of Microsoft’s training products.

FAQ’S Q: How does the new networking curriculum change from Windows Server 2003? A: The curriculum changes entirely and dramatically. There is no one to one mapping with current exams. Microsoft has a new strategy behind certification positioning which divides the learning objectives between basic technology focused skills in the MCTS exams, and job role focused skills in the MCITP exams. Please see the attached diagrams for curriculum recommendations. Q: What will be in each MOAC course package? A: The textbook and lab manual each comes in the MOAC course. Q: Will Microsoft continue to provide trial software with Server 2008 texts? A: There will be Server 2008 Evaluation software available with the books. In addition, Wiley can provide MSDN AA free for the first three years with an adoption of the new MOAC program products.

Q: Will the MOAC IT Pro program include Virtual labs for Server 2008 A: Yes. For more details www.wiley.com/college/moacvl

MOAC Virtual Labs provide students with a hosted emulation environment for working in labs designed for use with the

Microsoft Official Academic Course curriculum. These labs are the hands-on software experience that is critical for

students to build the skills and knowledge they need for effective work with Windows Server 2008 on the job. Give them

real experience with real software, freely exploring the full environment, instead of the prescribed task flow of

simulations. MOAC Virtual labs simplify the implementation of your new network administration program by eliminating

lab set up. All lab exercises are hosted on Microsoft servers. Only a browser and internet connection are required for

their use. This will save your institution the expense of upgrading the hardware and the software in your lab. You will no

longer need dedicated hard drives for each student. Students may log into their virtual lab from any machine. Distance

learning is now a viable option for your IT Professional program.

Required Textbook:

Microsoft Official Academic Course 70-431, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Implementation and Maintenance

published by John Wiley & Sons.

Prerequisites:

Understand Database Concepts

This book provides information on using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and learning the skills needed to implement and maintain this particular RDBMS. This course teaches the mechanics of how to create and manage your database. Consider taking an introductory information systems course first, if you are unfamiliar with why you need to: Create a table

Normalize to the third level
