    Executive Summary

    Gibran Exclusive Photography is a small-medium enterprise in photography industry,

    which is a new player in the industry that is owned by former INTI UC student Gibran

    WicaksonoAtmo. Gibran was well known by his photography skill that people mentioned

    that is equal with the professional photographer and has been recognized by Malaysian

    photographer and also Indonesian. With his mission We are simple people whose one

    and only mission is to create the most unique yet exclusive photographs possible, he is

    trying to compete two major competitor that has been involving in the business for 29

    years. As a new player in the industry, Gibran Exclusive Photography try to positions

    them self as a fresh, young, and glamorous photography studio. By creating new concepts

    of photography and with the help of organizing event and print ads as promotional tools,

    Gibran Exclusive photography is trying to compete and gain big market share in photo

    studio business in Yogyakarta. The new concepts of photography that Gibran Exclusive

    Photography offers Gibran Exclusive Photography offers two new concepts of

    photography that are new in the market. Beauty Shot and Modeling Photo are the new

    concepts that they offer.can be an effective competitive big advantage for Gibran

    Exclusive Photography to differentiate with other competitors.

    1.1 Background

    Gibran Exclusive Photography is a small-medium enterprise in photography industry,

    which is a new player in the industry that is owned by former INTI UC student Gibran

    WicaksonoAtmo. They offer high quality of photograph, where they claim that they have

    the best photos quality amongst their competitors. Since he was studying in INTI,

    Gibran was well known by his photography skill that people mentioned that is equal with

    the professional photographer and has been recognized by Malaysian photographer and

    also Indonesian. His company is based in Jogjakarta, Indonesia. The company has

    involved in the business since March 2009. He runs the business by himself as the

    photographer and also other part of job such as, editing, marketing, and financial.

    However, there are two main big competitors, which already involve in this industry for

    29 years.

    The mission of this organization is, We are simple people whose one and only mission

    is to create the most unique yet exclusive photographs possible. This mission pictures

    the organizations personality that we as a small-medium enterprise,try to give consumers

    unique experience and the quality of luxury photo studio.

    2.0 Market Analysis

    2.1Market DefinitionExternal

    2.1.2 Social

    Yogyakarta has a population of 3.5 million inhabitants (October 2008) with population

    density 1107 square kilometers (2008). The population of productive age group in 2008

    as many as 1.7 million people with a work force of 860.000. The labor force includes the

    employed population of 815.000 people and unemployment with 44 thousand

    inhabitants. Unemployment rate noted to 5.17 per cent and Labor Force Participation

    Rate was 64.41 percent.

    Yogyakarta has a very strong Javanese culture and tradition, wherethe majority of the

    governance is still run by the ancient kingdom, Keraton Yogyakarta, which still apply the

    ancient rules and policies of ancient Java. Muslim rules and policies are also applied in

    Yogyakarta. Moreover, a growing economy is estimated at 2.88%, slightly higher than

    the growth in the second quarter 2009 (2.37%) but relatively lower than the third quarter -

    2008 (6.59%). Sources of economic growth are consumption and

    investment. Consumption growth is influenced by the improved purch asing power, which

    is indicated by an increase in incentive payments, and transfer of funds from out of town

    ahead of IdulFitri celebrations and holiday season (July and September).

    Also, the student spending in Yogyakarta shows an enormous number US$ 33 million per

    month. This give a positive contribution to the economic, especially in business of food,

    beverages, lodging, transportation, communications, information technology, recreation,

    and other retail businesses. In addition, Yogyakarta has a very strong Javanese culture

    and tradition, where the majority of the governance is still run by the ancient kingdom,

    Keraton Yogyakarta, which the ancient rules and policies of ancient Java are still used as

    norms. Muslim rules and policies are also generally applied in Yogyakarta.

    2.2 Market Segmentation

    From 3,5 million people in Yogyakarta, we target the people in range of age between 15-

    34, which has the biggest number of age groups with 1,4 million people or 40% from the

    total inhabitants in 2010 (See app. 3). This range of age is categorized as Generation Y.

    According to Hawkins, we know that Generation Y is characterized by a strong sense of

    independence and autonomy and they like the ability to customize products to their

    unique needs. These consumers are Internet savvy and use email, cell phones, and text

    messaging to communicate (Hawkins, 2007). Generation Y is very suitable target for our

    company and match the companys mission, which provides unique photography

    experience. Also, it is supported by the increase of student spending in Yogyakarta that

    will also benefit our business. By targeting Generation Y, we will conduct marketing

    strategy that suits to their needs and wants, and also match their lifestyle.

    2.3 Competition

    In this business Gibran Exclusive Photography have two main competitors, which are

    Alvin Fauzie Photo Studio and Calista Photo Studio. These competitors have involved in

    the business for 29 years. Started from the small-medium business and now have grown

    to be a big photo studio. We place these two photo studio as our main competitors

    they offer almost the same service as our company. Both photo studios offer pre-wedding

    and wedding photo, photo studio, family and graduation, and make over photo.

    Their prices are very competitive. For wedding photo they set the price at range of US$

    200-300 depends on the package.Moreover, Calista Photo Studio is located in a very

    strategic place and near by our photo studio, which is surrounded by 2 big universities .

    This will bring the competition tougher for us as we are a new player in the business.

    We set the price lower than the competitors. For a comparison Alvin Fauzi Photo Studio

    set the wedding photo price at US$ 250-300 with 3 different packages. However,we price

    the wedding photo for US$ 200-250 with variety of package.

    3.2 Distribution Review

    Currently we only have one photo studio. The location is very strat egic, which is

    surrounded by 2 big universities and in a busy place where people pass by often . Even

    though our competitor also located near by our studio, it could be our advantages to

    create awareness.

    4.1 Strength

    As our strength, we have cheaper prices than our main competitors. As a new player,

    setting the price lower than other will be our strength to create awareness and

    attractcustomers to come, and also to create preferences in customers mind.Moreover,

    the well-known photographer Gibran will also be our competitive advantage. His photo

    quality and international recognition will create a good perception in the consumers

    mind. Also, we claim our company as a more innovative photo studio than the

    competitors by creating new concept of photography.

    4.2 Opportunities

    The high number of Generation Y, which is our target market, will be a good

    opportunities for us, thus we can reach high number of new customers. Also, the high

    spending of student also can be a positive opportunity as now the students are more

    consumptive, which will be easier for us to influence them to consume our products and

    services.The location of the studio also will benefit us to attract customers. Surrounded

    by two big universities and busy roads will raise awareness of our studio.

    4.3 Weakness

    Brand awareness is still our biggest weakness. One year involving in the industry is not

    enough to compete with the old players who already 29 years in the industry. People are

    not aware enough to change their preference from the two biggest photo studios to our

    photo studio.Furthermore, lacks of employees also affect our productivity. Gibran as the

    owner is doing multiple task of his job;photographing, editing, financing, and also

    marketing. This will create a bad image and unprofessional of our studio and this will

    result to the customers perception.

    4.4 Threat

    Even though our studio location is very strategic surrounded by 2 big universities, the

    main competitor also located near by our studio. This will bring the competition tougher

    as the customers preferences still on the competitors side. As mentioned before the

    competitors have involved in this business for 29 years and they are still tough to

    defeated by a new player. Therefore, we need to put a lot of effort in this marketing plan.

    Even though, Gibran Exclusive Photography claims that they have the best photo quality, but

    they still find difficulties in creating brand awareness. Their main competitors have involved in

    the industry for 29 years; however, Gibran Exclusive Photography has just joined the

    competition for 1 year. Customers preferences are still in the top three photo studios in

    Jogjakarta since they have built their brand image since long time ago. Although, Gibran

    Exclusive Photography offers new services and concepts, which is not offered by the

    competitors, they still find difficulties to compete with the 29-years-old-players in the business.

    Beauty shot and Modeling photo are new concepts in photography business in Jogjakarta.

    Basically, beauty shot is only a standard close up photo, but Gibran Exclusive Photography

    makes it so special by providing makeup artist and set a very good lightning, therefore the

    quality of the photo will be excellent. Moreover, modeling photo is the specialty of Gibran

    Exclusive Photography that gives you a photo shot with professional equipment, make up, and

    To inform people about our photo studio and its services, and also to build our image, we

    are going to reinforce the brand name and focus to the products differentiation and

    competitive advantages. Since Gibran Exclusive Photography is a small-medium

    enterprise, there must be limited budget for communication strategy. Broadcast

    advertisements through Internet, advertisements,and organize events are selected to be

    our communication channels. Firstly,tTo advertise usingviaFacebook and Twitterblog are

    the most effective and efficient for Gibran Photography as they target Generation Y, who

    areis Internet savvy. Sales promotion is also used to build our brand and awareness to the

    to the market. Secondly, We will use print ad such as Posters, billboards, and flyers to be

    Since we are a new player in the industry, we will put a lot of effort in promotion where

    we will use advertising and publicity as our promotion tools. Since our target market is

    Generation Y who is Internet savvy, firstly, we will use Facebook and Twitter as

    broadcast media. By using Facebook we will inform the customers about our companys

    information, put photos, contacts, promotion, and updates of every promotion and news

    from our company.Also, Twitter will be used to spread brief information, updates, and

    promotion to our customers.

    Gibran Exclusive Photography studio is placed in a strategic place, where it is surrounded

    by 3 big universities. This can be our advantage to gain more customers, where our main

    target market is Generation Y that university students are included. And we will fully

    utilize this advantage to build our brand name and image.

    In order to build the image of glamorous, Gibran Exclusive Photography will have our

    own uniforms for the employees. Also, we will paint the studio with black and pink

    color, and also decorate the studio with a lot of lights and mirror to visualize the

    Every photo will be packed in a black exclusive frame and put in the black exclusive bag

    made of recycle carton. It is purposed to build glamorous image of the studio.

    6.9 Process

    The process of running the business is very simple and smart. Before coming to the

    studio for photo taking, customers can make appointment for his or her photo shoot. This

    can be done by making a phone call, sending email, or posting comment on Facebook

    page wall of Gibran Exclusive Photography, or tweeting on Twitter informing us to book

    for a photo shoot. This can avoid a long queue and also make the photo editing and

    processing a lot faster and easier. Moreover, the customers can choose their photos to be

    printed, sent to email, burned in CD, or saved in their own pendrive. This will bring ease

    to the customers of how they want to keep their photos.

    package, where we also provide video recording from the pre wedding photo

    Family photo is targeted to Full Nest 1 and Full Nest 2 who already have a family

    and young children. This photo shoot will be set in our studio with glamorous

    selectablebackground or in the customers house. This option depends on

    customers preference.

    documentations of their company activities.

    This package is targeted to customers aged between 15-25. The concept of this

    photo shoot is to make over the model. There are several optional themes to

    standard close up photo, but Gibran Exclusive Photography makes it so special by

    The modeling photo is also targeted to the customers who are in the range of age

    15-25. Moreover, modeling photo is the specialty of Gibran Exclusive

    In order to increase awareness of the photo studio, we are going to organize a

    modelingevent, which finds young modeling talents from across Yogyakarta. This event

    will be named Gibran Beauty Search and will take 1 week for the whole event . The

    concept of this event is almost the same like Americas Next Top Model that search

    modeling talent. This will be held in Gibran Exclusive Photography for the audition and

    the final top 10 will be held in the mall.

    After the audition, the event will consist of 3 parts elimination sections. As a start, the

    total model of 10 will be competing on getting to the big 5. They will be tested on how

    good they can pose in front of the camera according to the different themes that are given

    to them. In five days, one will be eliminated each day in order to get the big 5.

    Furthermore, on the 6 th day, 2 will be eliminated at once depending on how they can

    conquer the challenge of posing in a catwalk. The final 2 will be ann ounced on the 7 th

    day.

    Sponsorships from local make-up brands, radio stations and local TV channels will be

    used in order to get the event to be promoted to the targeted audience. By organizing such

    event, it will help Gibran Exclusive Photography to promote their services and also to

    gain more awareness from those who are interested on photography and digital imaging.

    7.5 Advertising Program

    Print ads will be used as a promotional tool to spread the word about Gibran Exclusive

    Photography. Mediums such as billboard, posters and flyers will be distributed

    locally.This advertising program will help Gibran Exclusive Photography to gain more

    awareness and create a strong concept of brand image by designing a professional-

    looking print ads layout (See appendix 1 and 2).

    products that they have. Annual report will be held in the end of the year by the owner to review

    10.0Conclusion

    In conclusion, based on analysis and research conducted, Gibran Exclusive Photography will

    conduct a marketing plan in order to increase their brand awareness and gain more market share

    to compete with two major competitors that has involved in the industry for 29 years. By

    creating new concepts of photography, setting lower package prices, and organizing event, we

    expect to achieve our marketing goals in 1 year.

    Beauty shot and Modeling photo are new concepts in photography business in

    Jogjakarta. Basically, beauty shot is only a standard close up photo, but Gibran

    Exclusive Photography makes it so special by providing makeup artist and set a ve ry

    good lightning, therefore the quality of the photo will be excellent. Moreover,

    modeling photo is the specialty of Gibran Exclusive Photography that gives you a

    photo shot with professional equipment, make up, and lighting, which you usually

    see in the cover of magazines or billboards.

    5.2 Price

    Our pricing method will be based on our pricing objective, which is to maximize the

    market share. Therefore, the pricing method will be cost-plus pricing, where we will

    set the price at the production cost plus a certain profit margin. By setting the price

    lower than the competitors and set small profit margin, Gibran Exclusive

    Photography will attract a lot of customers, thus we can push down the price and

    compete with the senior players. By setting the price 20% lower than the

    competitors, I am optimist that Gibran Exclusive Photography can attract many

    customers.

    5.3 Place

    Gibran Exclusive Photography studio is placed in a strategic place, where it is surrounded

    by 3 big universities. This can be our advantage to gain more customers, where our main

    target market is Generation Y that university students are included. And we will fully utilize

    this advantage to build our brand name and image.

    Facebook, blog, and organizing event will be our main promotional tools to build brand

    awareness. However, we will also use printed ads, such as posters, flyers, and billboards to

    create awareness around the photo studio. Advertising via radio will also be done.

    In order to build the image of glamorous, Gibran Exclusive Photography will have our own

    uniforms for the employees. Also, we will paint the studio with black and pink color, and

    5.6 People

    Some people say that the success of a business is dependent on the quality of the

    people who work in the company.Gibran Wicaksono as the founder and

    photographer of the studio was well known by his photography skill that people

    mentioned is equal with the professional photographer and has been recognized by

    Malaysian and Indonesian photographer. He has a big reputation when he was still a

    freelance photographer.

    5.7 Packaging

    Every photo will be packed in a black exclusive frame and put in the black exclusive

    bag made of recycle carton. It is purposed to build glamorous image of the studio.

    5.8 Process

    The process of running the business is very simple and smart. Before coming to the

    studio for photo taking, customers can make appointment for his or her photo shoot.

    This can be done by making a phone call, sending email, or posting comment on

    Facebook page wall of Gibran Exclusive Photography. This can avoid a long queue

    and also make the photo editing and processing a lot faster and easier. Moreover,

    the customers can choose their photos to be printed, sent to email, burned in CD, or

    saved in their own pendrive. This will bring ease to the customers of how they want

    to keep their photos.
