Message from the Board of Trustees

Dear Friends,

We are proud to have served in the capacity of Trustees for the past year and pleased to present our 2014 Annual Report. Our investment managers (Fih ird Bank, e Commercial & Savings Bank, and MainStreet Advi-sors) managed our assets wisely and they performed well. Our portfolio posted an 8.10% consolidated return. We celebrated the 25th anniversary of the foundation with a luncheon sponsored by Fih ird Private Bank and were pleased that Gerry Faust shared his stories with us as keynote speaker. We established the Keyholder’s Society to help grow the foundation for the future needs of Holmes County and are grateful to those donors who have become the founding members. e 5% commitment in annual award distributions was maintained as we awarded more than $387,000 in nancial need-based scholarships to new and renewing students. Two new scholarships were created and endowed with the Foundation. It’s an honor to be approached by these families of those who have passed on and to be trusted to administer the scholarship fund for their loved ones. We welcomed the opportunity to partner with the Millersburg Rotary Club and to now administer their scholarship. Our Amish Vocational Training Program was continued by the support of a generous anonymous donor. anks to Eli Mast, Jr. of Mast Farm Service and his sta for successfully implementing a basic welding and fabrication class. We welcomed new Trustee Julian Coblentz to the board as we said thank you to out-going Trustee Marcella Hawkins. Additionally, we hired a former scholarship recipient, Kaeli Dial, to fulll the role of Administrative Assistant as our long-time employee Anna Patton moved on to new opportunities. One new community member was welcomed to the Foundation Advisory Board. e time, assistance and advice that these individuals devote to the Board of Trustees and sta are greatly appreciated as we strive for excellence within the Foundation. Richard and Virginia Cary were honored posthumously as our 2014 Friends of Philanthropy. We are extremely grateful to them for their generos-ity towards giving to this community. Holmes County is very fortunate to have a Foundation that makes an impact on the lives of so many young people. Our sincere and grateful appre-ciation goes out to all who have generously supported the Holmes County Education Foundation. It is our hope that you will continue to support the mission of the Foundation by your generous giving and that you consider remembering the Foundation in your estate planning documents. Your continued support touches the lives of those in need of nancial aid to further their education. ank you for helping to make dreams a reality and for making this a stronger community.

“One of the earliest projects of my legal career was to assist with the creation of the Foundation, and it has held a place in my heart ever since. I’m thrilled that we have been blessed to be in a position where we can pay it forward by contributing to the Foundation’s mission of improving so many young lives. Our family is committed to the continued success of the Foundation, and in turn, of Holmes County. Education is the springboard to our dreams.”
