FEBRUARY PROGRAM

Free motion Quilting and Pillow of the Month Project

presented by Patty Justice and Cheryl Stone

HOSTESS LIST The sign-up list for hostess/refreshments for this year has gone AWOL!

Somewhere between the holidays, new officer transitions and the cold weather, the list has disappeared. If you think that you had signed up for refreshments for February, please call Patty Justice (340-0021) ASAP. If no one calls or the list does not reap-pear, we will come up with a plan for February and then start a new list at the monthly meeting.

***** Just a REMINDER *****

If there is no school in Bourbon County, there will NOT be a Nifty Needles monthly meeting. If there is no school in Bourbon County, we MAY still have a monthly sewing retreat if the extension office is open.

If the University of Kentucky is closed, the extension office will be closed.

A phone tree for the guild has been put into place. If cancellations are made, you should receive a phone call from one of the following people: Mary Pocho-dzay, Cheryl Stone, Cheryl Royalty, Kris Maybrier, Teresa Fritz, Shirley Gentry, Tracey Jacoby or Sherry Schneider.

You may call the extension office and check the status for that day. We want to do our best to keep you informed and safe during these winter months. Please use your own discretion if you want to drive in inclement weather.

Brrrr…. I am ready for the cold weather to be over and for warmer weather to prevail!!! However, the cold weather gives us a good excuse to stay inside and snuggle up with a good book or movie and a good cup of coffee, hot chocolate or hot tea (whichever you prefer) and just “chill”. It is also a good time to spend quilting—maybe finishing some of those unfinished projects I talked about last month. (Don’t forget to bring your finished work to the guild meeting for show and tell.) However you prefer to spend this time, I hope it has given you the time to relax and do the things that make you happy.

Regretfully the dangerously cold temperatures forced us to cancel the January Guild Meeting. The officers decided that it was not worth putting our members at risk trying to venture out in the extreme elements. It did give us the opportunity to activate the phone tree for the first time. Everyone should have received a phone call notifying you of the meeting cancellation. If you did NOT receive a call, please let me know. It could be because we did not have a phone number where we could reach you. Or it could be that you have not paid your dues for the 2018-19 year. We want to make sure that we can get information out to all our members when the need arises.

The month of February turns our thoughts to Valentine’s Day and love. The word love makes us think of some many things that we deeply care about—God, spouses, children, grandchildren, pets…. It reminds us of our favorite pastimes. I love to quilt, I love to play piano, I love to read I love to shop, I love to cook…. The list goes on and on. Love can be expressed in any number of ways—saying “I love your”, giving a hug, send-ing notes or cards or making a quilt for someone we care about. Be sure to take the time to not only tell your special someone that you love them, but reach out to someone you know that may be hurting or not have anyone else that will take the time to let them know that someone does care!

Happy Quilting and Happy Valentine’s Day!

Mary

Don’t forget that Sherry Schneider,

Bourbon County Master Clothing Volunteer is teaching the following classes at the

Extension Office . Please call to register and to get details and supply lists.

DATE/TIME CLASS

March 2nd Pillow Case Class April 4,18, and May 2 Beginning Quilting

DIRECTORY

FINAL CALL for Directory Pictures. If you would like to have your picture included in the Nifty Needles Directory and you did not have your picture made at the Christmas party in December, please have someone take your picture and text it to Sherry Schneider (859-588-1882) no later than the February guild meeting on the 26th.

COOKIE EXCHANGE BLOCKS

If you are participating the Christmas Cookie Block Exchange, you should have 40-45 blocks made by the guild meeting on the 26th. If you are behind on this number, don’t be discouraged. You still have plenty of time to catch up, even if you have not yet started. Remember, these numbers are just to help keep us on track if making a big quilt. You may want to make a small quilt or wall-hanging. That’s ok. Sherry hopes to have pictures of various pattern choices available at the guild meeting.

The Fair Board would like our input on any changes that need to be made in the class/entry offerings to be listed in the book for our Bourbon County Fair. Be thinking about this and we will discuss it at the guild meeting. If you have suggestions, please talk to Sherry Schneider or Teresa Fritz, ASAP as they are our repre-sentatives on the Fair Board.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

Once again this year, there are several people participating in the Pizza Box Challenge. Thanks goes to Teresa Fritz for the great job managing this project last year and for being willing to do it again this year. Te-resa, we appreciate you!!! Just a reminder to have your completed blocks finished and the box taken to the Extension Office during our monthly retreat and then pick up your new box at the monthly guild meeting.

SENIOR MOMENT OF THE MONTH

“Father God, it does help to turn the iron to on when I want to press my clothes (or quilt blocks). “Gold press” works for olive

oil but not on my best shirts (or quilt blocks). Thanks for pulling me out of my reverie,”

Taken from “God Bless My Senior Moments” by Karen O’Connor
