“It takes a village to raise a child.”

I do not know about you but there was no truer

statement when I was raising my daughters. My

village included all of the second mothers such as

family members, neighbors, godparents, teachers,

youth leaders ….. the list goes on and on.

On Mother’s Day, we should thank our entire village

of cheerleaders and mentors . I do not have enough

fingers to count all of the adoptive aunts, uncles and

family friends who provided support for me as a

child and then me as a Mother. There is no question

that my mom and dad were my greatest teachers,

but without my extended family, I would have

missed a lot of extra love, support and

encouragement throughout my life.

By all means, please wish your Mother a Happy

Mother’s Day but take a moment to write a note,

text, email or even better make a phone call to the

“second” Mother’s in your life. We all have them.

If you are not a Mom—I am sure you are a Mom role

model for someone. Happy Mother’s Day!

Please join us for the first Bourbon County Extension Homemakers Tea Party Fundraiser for Ovarian Cancer

Screening and research. We would

also welcome donations of finger foods and desserts for the tea. Call the office for details.

September Lesson

“Savvy Sellers and Bargain Hunters”

Kay Denniston August 8, 2017 – 6:00 pm

Many of us have items in our home that have been kept long beyond their usefulness. These items often clutter our houses while we scratch our heads wondering what to do with them. Many times, clothes, bags, furniture, or odd knick-knacks are still in good condition, yet we no longer have a use for them. On the other hand, many of us also have upcom-ing purchases, such as back-to-school clothes, home redecorating, or furnishing a college apartment.

Maybe, just maybe, warm weather is here to

stay for the next several months! It is great

going without a coat and gives me the

opportunity to smell freshly cut grass! Today I

attended a lovely luncheon hosted by Bourbon

Heights, in appreciation for Bourbon County

Homemakers helping with the Sunshine

Homemaker Club. It was nicely attended and we

left feeling very satisfied. Please know that

Lauren Biddle, the Activities Director, is VERY

appreciative of the time Homemaker members

give every month to be with the Sunshine ladies.

It is a very worthwhile endeavor, and it gives

you volunteer service hours! The next several

months are packed with activities Homemakers

are involved with, so don’t forget to write down

your hours!

Ann Davis McClain

County President

May is National Physical Fitness Month

Make physical activity a regular part of the day.

Choose activities that you enjoy and can do regularly.

Fitting activity into a daily routine can be easy — such as

taking a brisk 10 minute walk to and from the parking lot.

Or, join an exercise class. Keep it interesting by trying

something different on alternate days. Every little bit adds

up and doing something is better than doing nothing.

Make sure to do at least 10 minutes of activity at a time,

shorter bursts of activity will not have the same health

benefits. For example, walking the dog for 10 minutes

before and after work or adding a 10 minute walk at

lunchtime can add to your weekly goal. Mix it up. Swim,

take a yoga class, garden or lift weights. To be ready

anytime, keep some comfortable clothes and a pair of

walking or running shoes in the car and at the office.

tips.
