Dr. Mandel’s Message

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are entering the eighth week of school so we are approaching the end of the first

quarter. This marks an important time in the semester because habits that will carry

students through the year are becoming set. Good habits, such as punctuality and good

attendance, completing and turning-in homework, and studying using effective

strategies are routine for many students. If your student is doing these things then

please take time to recognize him or her. Research about praise suggests that when

adults point to specific actions or characteristics, rather than offer non-specific

generalized statements like "good job," the behavior being praised continues and is

even strengthened. If your student would benefit from incorporating some of the good

habits into daily life then this point in the semester is a good time to start. There is still

plenty of time to positively influence the semester grade. I hope that you and your

student have a great week.

Have a great week,

Dr. David Mandel, Principal

Marana High School

Tiger Pride

Athletic News

TIGER PRIDE News

The 3 C’s (Culture, Commitment, and Competitiveness) philosophy is echoing

throughout Marana like a Tiger’s roar. Our student athletes preserve through the

challenges by coming back with determination to improve on the court, course, field

and pool for their fellow Tigers and as individuals. All three levels in football were

successful against the Tempe Buffalos while ladies volleyball earned their first home

W last week making them hungry for more. Our swimming Tigers had a great week by

bringing home another win and several athletes earned provisional state times at their

dual meet and at the Chandler Invitational. The men’s golf team competed in Phoenix

this weekend with one golfer placing in the top six and another in the top sixteen. Our

lady golfers earned a team W and qualifying scores for state. TIGER PRIDE!!!

Ms. Montiel Turner

CTE SPOTLIGHT

MHS Autos

At MHS we are very proud to offer a diverse array of CTE/JTED programs. The

integration of these programs throughout our curriculum is just one of the many

opportunities for students that our comprehensive high school provides. Throughout

the year we will be sharing glimpses into the programs with you. Please take a look at

our new Fire Science Program.

MHS AUTOS PROGRAM

On September 13, 2015, Marana High School’s Pit Crew participated in a challenge

sponsored by Andrada Poly Technical High School in Vail. The three-person teams

had to rotate all four tires using hand tools and a floor jack. Marana Auto team took

the competition with the fastest time and the MHS team members won individual

tools for their accomplishment. This event is just one of the many events and

competitions that MHS Auto students participate in during the school year. Marana

High School Auto students have been the state Pit Crew Champions for the last two

years. They also won the 2013 Auto Skills competition and earned 9th in the nation

during a competition in Detroit, Michigan. If your student is interested in the

automotive field, consider taking this JTED class which offers up to nine college

credits and career post-secondary support.

PBIS Information

ROCKIN ’ the PBIS Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports are in place and we are looking to reward students for their positive interactions in the classroom by being respectful to your teachers when they are teaching, for picking up your trash at lunch, and being kind to one another on campus. Ask your child tonight, “Did you get a PBIS incentive card today?” and ask why. Your support in promoting PBIS at home will help us to increase the positive interactions in your student’s life. If you are able to assist this wonderful system by providing donations of treat, snacks or drinks it is always appreciated. You can drop them off at the front desk with the receptionist, Mrs. Vatterrodt.
