Potential Issues for 2015 PCS Review Total mercury water quality criterion
Is 12 ng/L the correct number?Should it be “never to be exceeded” or average over
time?Is mixing zone prohibition appropriate for Ohio River?Bacteria criteria
ORSANCO adopted EPA’s original proposal – 90 day geo mean.
EPA adopted more stringent criteria.ORSANCO’s criteria less stringent than all states so not
applicable for 305b or permitting.
2015 Potential Issues (cont.)Temperature for aquatic life protection
Winter-time criteria were revised in 2012.Summertime criteria were not revised due to last
minute comment regarding inaccurate data point.Should revisit summertime criteria.
