LETTER FROM THE CEO

• Letter from the CEO

• What’s on at Hardi Aged Care

JUNE 2015

Welcome to the June edition of the Hardi Aged Care Newsletter.

We are now halfway through the year and there is no sign of things slowing down at Hardi. During May, our facilities participated in various activities which all staff and residents enjoyed.

Upgrade work is continuing at a number of our facilities and we will keep you informed regarding these works and any future works we have planned.

During the month, our Manly Vale facility had the pleasure of hosting Mayor Michael Regan for an afternoon tea with staff, residents and their families. A tour of the facility was undertaken whereby Mayor Regan had the opportunity to talk with residents and find out more about life at Manly Vale and future works across the Hardi facilities.

It’s great to see our residents participating in events and activities across all of our facilities and we encourage everyone to get involved!

Robert OxfordCEO

MANLY VALEManly Vale had the pleasure of hosting Mayor Michael Regan last month for an afternoon tea with staff and residents and a tour of the facility. Mayor Regan had the opportunity to talk with residents and find out more about life at Manly Vale and future works across the Hardi facilities.

During May residents participated in new bus trips, these occur every Tuesday. This month residents took part in the Seven Bridges tour, the McCarr’s Creek Reserve Tour and picnic, the Bahai Temple Tour, the Governor Philip Reserve and Serpentine Ave Tour. We aim to make these trips fun and pro-active and invite all our residents to come along.

Hardi is embarking on an exciting project called the Life Time Achievement Awards. These awards are a way to get to know the residents better by acknowledging some of the achievements residents have accomplished throughout their lives. We have a huge number of talented, compassionate people living here at Hardi and are proud to know them all.

As you may have noticed the facility has a new entry gate and code. This is to add another level of security for our residents, ask Grace at Reception if you require further information. During May, the facility driveway was out of action for two weeks while it was being resurfaced. We apologise for the inconvenience, however, the works to the surface and drainage were necessary.

During June, the facility will be busy preparing for our upcoming Accreditation in August and upgrade works will continue to the external building.

GUILDFORDMay kicked off with Mother’s day celebrations with residents making flowers to be displayed around the facility. Residents and staff also celebrated International Nurses Day on 12 May and were treated with delicious pizza and cake.

On 20 May, residents participated in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea to help raise money for the Cancer Council’s research, prevention and support service programs.

During May, the popular pet therapy program returned to Guildford allowing residents to interact on a regular basis with various animals. Pet therapy can help to boost health and general well-being as well as improve social, emotional and cognitive functioning.

We are reviewing the program for our Dementia Unit. As a consequence, another program has recently been introduced for the Dementia unit. Each afternoon residents are invited to participate in a range of activities including musical activities which is proving to be popular.

All residents are encouraged to participate in facility activities. Independent residents are now participating in various activities each afternoon between 3 – 5pm and after dinner. Activities range from cards, dominoes, bingo, singing and watching the football on the big screen.

WHAT’S ON AT HARDI AGED CARE

• The Queen’s birthday celebrations with High Tea on 4 June for ESU and Low Care residents and on 5 June for High Care residents.

SUMMER HILLDuring the month of May the facility celebrated mother’s day with entertainment by Allan Duncan, who played his piano accordion for the residents, they enjoyed this performance and were singing along to all the classics.

A beautiful mother’s day cake was prepared by the great facility catering team for residents to enjoy and a raffle was drawn with prizes shared between staff, residents and visitors. Congratulations to all the winners!

Residents participated in a great sausage sizzle but unfortunately due to the weather, it became an indoor event. However, our new undercover outdoor area will ensure that we hold events outside during all weather.

Summer Hill staff entertained residents with a cultural performance of their ancestral heritage, performing traditional dances and wearing traditional costumes. Residents enjoyed this performance so much they have requested it become a regular event throughout the year. Thank you to all involved in making this event a success.

As for the facility itself, renovations are almost at an end. The reception area, training room and DT office are complete and the hairdressing area is looking better than ever! The Hardi Aged Care signage has gone up out the front, making the facility look complete. We thank everyone for their patience during the renovation period. We are sure you will agree it has made a great improvement.

During June, we look forward to participating in a number of events including our big karaoke competition day.

SEVEN HILLSThe Seven Hills facility was buzzing with activity during May with upgrade works continuing throughout the facility.
