History & Biography

Chad Meredith Hurley (born 1977) isthe middle child of Don and JoannHurley, and grew up near Birdsboro,Pennsylvania. He has two siblings, an

older sister, Heather, and a youngerbrother, Brent. Since childhood, Chadshowed extreme interest in the arts, butthen later became interested in computersand electronic media during high school.

He graduated from Twin Valley HighSchool, Elverson in 1995 and went on toreceive his B.A. in Fine Art from IndianaUniversity of Pennsylvania in 1999.

YOUTUBE

It was founded by Chad Hurley along with Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim ,

who were the co founder of YouTube and all early employees of PayPal.

According to a story that has often been repeated in the media, Hurley andChen developed the idea for YouTube during the early months of 2005, after

they had experienced difficulty sharing videos that had been shot at a dinnerparty at Chen's apartment in San Francisco.

While Chen commented thatthe idea that YouTube wasfounded after a dinner party "was

probably very strengthened bymarketing ideas around creating astory that was very digestible"

YouTube began as a venture-funded technology startup, primarilyfrom a $11.5 million investment by Sequoia Capital betweenNovember 2005 and April 2006. YouTube's early headquarters weresituated above a pizzeria and Japanese restaurant in San Mateo,California. The domain name www.youtube.com was activated onFebruary 14, 2005, and the website was developed over the

subsequent months.

In June 2006, he was voted 28th on Business 2.0's "50People Who Matter Now" list.

On October 16, 2006, Chen and Hurley sold YouTube toGoogle, Inc. for $1.65 billion.

He received 694,087 Google shares directly and another41,232 shares in a trust.

Hurley stepped down as CEO of YouTube in October 2010and stated he would stay on as an advisor of YouTube.

Murthy started a new venture capital fundcalled Catamaran Venture Fund with the moneyhe got by selling 800,000 Infosys shares worth174 Crores. Sudha Murthy does it again by

helping him in setting up his VC Fund by givinghim Rs.430 crores which she got by sellingquarter of her stake 1.6% in Infosys.

Murthy retired from his executive position atInfosys on 20 August 2006. However, hecontinues as the Non-Executive Chairman of the

board.
