Being, Forgiving, Serving, Giving, and Going. Those five words provided a focus for
Messiah as we journeyed through the Red Letter Challenge last fall — important words to remind us what it means to live as followers of Jesus. As the new year has begun the leadership and staff of Messiah has begun thinking about what words we would use to describe Messiah and our ministry.
Earlier this week we dismantled the Red Letter Challenge boards in the gathering space. I was moved by not only the number of red dots that were displayed, but also by what was written on them. Here are just a few; “I learned the joy of witnessing while I served others.” “I learned to rise above my comfort level and anxiety to live according to God’s Word.” “Forgiving is so difficult, but I know God will help me.” “The RLC provided for great family discussions as we read scripture together.” “I found joy in giving.” These are a small example of the many that were written.
So now what? Now that the challenge is over and the displays are gone? Now what do we do? The answer is quite simple! We continue to thank and praise God for what He has done and continues to do through each of us and the ministry of Messiah. We also pray that God continues to open doors of opportunity for us to Share the Savior and Develop Disciples!

Lent – Mid – Week Worship
On Ash Wednesday, February 26, we will begin our Lenten Journey to the Cross. Our
Wednesday services will focus on the theme, “Behold the Man!” “Behold the man!” proclaimed the
unwitting preacher Pontius Pilate in one of the shortest yet most profound sermons ever recorded.
Behold the man, God in human flesh, Jesus. His incarnation will provide the basis for our meditation
and proclamation on His Passion. And His real bodily suffering and death will provide the basis for
our full-throated proclamation on Easter morning of a bodily resurrection, not just of Jesus but also
for His saints. Real bodies that have suffered, wept, bled, prayed, eaten, hoped, and more will be
those raised incorruptible from their graves on the day of Jesus’ return.
We will fix our eyes and our preaching on the man Jesus, contemplating the inescapable fact—
indeed the most important fact in the course of human history—that God became man. The Second
Person of the eternal triune God, whom we confess in the Nicene Creed as “God of God, Light of
light, very God of very God . . . of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made,”
became a living, breathing, flesh-and-blood human being, a man.
Wednesday services will be held at 4pm and 6pm with a dinner served from 4:45 – 6:00pm.

MONTHLY MEMORY VERSE
“We wait in hope for the
Lord; he is our help and
our shield.” Psalm 33:20
XYZ-Here goes-the beginning of a great
year of adventures. Open to retired, semi retired or anyone wanting an adventure.
We already had an exciting day of Bunco including the Vikings extraordinary victory! Very loud!!!
On Thurs, March 1 we will be going to Skyrock Farm and Carousel (highly recommended by other senior groups) in Medina. We are transported to the social scene of the 1800's. Our collection of dance and fair organs is world renowned for its beautiful artwork and magical musical sound. You're sure to enjoy the carousel building and the "Happiest Music on Earth"
After a 6 course, home-cooked meal, we will head to the horse barn where we will experience the excitement of high jumping horses, close and personal. Hands on if comfortable??!!
The cost is $50 which includes transportation, entrance fees and lunch. I know this sounds high but it is a day's excursion and does include lunch which is usually extra on our previous tours. It will be limited to 30 people and the sign up sheet is on the bulletin board.
STEWARDSHIP CORNER
Through Baptism, God has made us His
own. At that point, we began our spiritual
journeys to become the stewards God has
called us to be. We most often think of
stewardship as something we do, and cer-
tainly we are to do acts of stewardship,
but first we must dedicate ourselves to
being stewards of God’s good and
gracious gifts.
Our congregation’s Families Moving Forward program is looking for two people (or couples or groups of people) to take over the Congregational Coordinator position and the Setup Coordinator positions. This is an excellent opportunity for a small group or a Bible Study
group to step forward and make this their group service project. Setup coordination is responsible for setting up and cleaning up Luther Hall before and after our hosting week. Congregational coordinating involves communication with the Families Moving Forward staff, acting as central contact for all the other areas (food, setup, activities), serving as the Evening Host the Sunday evening that our families arrive and generally overseeing the local program. If you have any questions or interest, please contact Rob Stadler at [email protected] or Gretchen King at [email protected]. Our upcoming hosting week begins February 23rd and would be an excellent opportunity to shadow the program.

I need a Hero
How often do you think about breathing? How often do
you think about blinking? How often do you think about
making spit for your mouth? Some things in this life are
just preprogrammed in to us. We do them at an
unconscious level but are the very foundation for how we
exist. Our need for a Savior is preprogrammed into us as
well. We know we need something or someone bigger
than ourselves. Our series on Sundays this Lenten season, I Need a Hero, will look at
how we express our need for a Hero in Comics, Music, Film, and Classical literature.
Even when we say we don’t believe in God we can’t help but tell Jesus stories through
our creative works. Join us each Sunday as we explore our innate desire to tell Jesus
stories. Come see how The Hulk, Iron Man, Batman, The Hobbit, Les Misérables, A Tale
of Two Cities, Harry Potter, Big Hero 6, Bob Dylan, Linkin Park, Evanescence, and more
can’t stop telling the story of our need for a savior, our need for Jesus Christ.

XYZ February Event—Join us at Concordia College for a good laugh watching the
play “Rumors” by Neil Simon. This is a two-act play that shows a dinner party gone topsy-turvy. It has been staged all over the country and is celebrated as one of Simon’s funniest plays. Date: February 16, leaving the church at 1:15 (play starts at 2:00.) Cost: $5.00 for ticket, (plus a couple of $$ to your driver.) After the play we will return to church for pizza (free will offering). This is a small theater at Concordia, we will need to know the number of people attending by 2/5/2020, so we can get seats for everyone. Sign-up sheet and further information on a Concordia poster can be found on the bulletin board by the elevator.

Home Bound?
A new worship opportunity There is a new Sunday morning TV worship
opportunity in the Twin Cities designed for people
who cannot attend a church service due to illness,
being shut-in, or for any other reason. It is called
Main Street Living and airs at 9am on channel 29.
The one-hour program consists of a half-hour
worship service conducted by a local LCMS pastor
(watch for Pastor Kurt Klaus!). The second half-
hour is a re-mastered episode of The Lutheran
Hour's “This is the Life” which aired in the 70's and
80's, with an inspirational message.
Main Street Living is one ministry with six
locations: Sioux Falls, SD (headquarters); Sioux
City, IA; Fargo/Bismarck, ND; Lincoln, NE; Twin
Cities, MN and Duluth, MN. Each location is a
stand alone ministry in that local pastors present the
message. The common thread is preaching the true
Gospel using LCMS beliefs, doctrine and the
common scripture readings used in LCMS churches
each Sunday.
Hymns are recorded by a choir made up of various
church's choir members and inserted. Occasionally,
the Concordia St. Paul choir provides special music.
This ministry is approved but not supported
financially by the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod
(LCMS). Viewers support the ministry through the
website, www.mainstreetliving.com where you can
also view your local presentation or the other
locales. Please check it out and also tune in to
Channel 29 at 9am Sunday mornings. Fred Hoff is
on the leadership board representing Messiah
congregation.
Women Of Messiah
The next WOM meeting will be on
February 11, 2020 starting with a pot-
luck supper at 5:30 and meeting at 6:30.
Days for Girls will be here on February
15th from 9:00-12:00. We will be making
hygiene kits again. Everyone, school-age
and up is welcome. Sewing experience
is not necessary.
7
SERVICE PROJECT
Days For Girls workshop will be held on Saturday, February 15, in the Blue Room. The time is 9:00 to noon.
This is a workshop to make hygiene kits for girls in developing countries. There is a great need for washable and reusable feminine pads for girls in many countries. Having no sanitary products to use, adolescent girls are often forced to stay home and miss school, which contributes to high dropout rates.
You don't sew? No problem! There are jobs for non-sewing adults and older children such as pinning, applying snaps, threading, ironing, and cutting. Experience is not necessary. You have your choice of jobs and learning is easy.
Sewers are especially welcome. Bring your own sewing machine if you desire, but machines will be provided. Experience is not necessary.
If you can't attend but want to participate, you can donate necessary items for the kits:
Unwrapped hotel soaps,
Inexpensive, dark colored washcloths
Gallon sized Zip Lock Freezer bags (not the sliders)
Dark and wild flannel fabric
Young teen cotton panties (such as size 5)
All contributions are welcome and can be left in the donation box outside the offices.
STEWARDSHIP
When we give our gifts to God, He gives back more to us. We can never outgive God.
God doesn’t need what we are able to give, but we have a need to give. In His infinite
wisdom, God establishes giving as a means of developing a relationship and connected-
ness with Him. Therefore, God, Who gave 100 percent of Himself for us, seeks a re-
sponse from us. God wants us to experience the joy of giving and is honored when we
give Him our first and best. Our giving, when done without reservation, has its source in
God. God, Who abides in us, enables us to give.
Kids of Service February Schedule February 5 @ 6PM: Assemble College Care Packages February 12 @ 6PM: Valentine Activity February 19: NO MEETING February 26 @ 6:45PM: Make 1500 Sandwiches (with grades 6-12)
WALK WITH JESUS VOLUNTEERS are needed for set-up, food preparation and
serving, guiding the groups between stations, and dressing as Biblical characters as well as clean-up
after the event. There is a planning meeting on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4 at 7pm or contact Allison Burkhow if you are interested in helping in any
capacity or have questions!
