Munyeki made a name for himself early by winning the 2005 Standard Chartered Half-Marathon in 2005 before his 20th birthday. In 2008, he joined the small group of men to have posted sub-one hour half marathons and followed that up a year later by making the most of his debut at the marathon distance - posting a still personal best 2:07:06 at the 2009 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. His 2:08:04 this last fall at Eindhoven shows he is still able to maintain good speed over the marathon distance.

While many marathoners are tackling the distance earlier in their careers, Tolossa didn’t challenge the marathon until last year when he was already 31 years old. In three races over 2011, he improved by a huge margin, taking 6:40 off his debut mark and hoping that decline continues in Houston.

Despite a shortage of participation in notable races in 2011, Tsega made his marathon debut in France this past fall and surprised many with a win in a respectable 2:09:44 at Reimes. The lightly raced youngster started his career representing his country in cross country events in 2006 and 2007 then ran mostly 10K’s in 2008 and 2009. Willis is aiming to put on a good show in Houston so she can ensure selection to her 4th Australian Olympic Team. She represented her country in 2000 at 5,000m, in 2004 at 10,000m and ran the marathon in 2008 in Beijing. She holds Australian records at every distance from 2,000m to the marathon. She was slated to run the 2011 Chicago Marathon, site of her personal best in 2006, but had to withdraw due to a foot injury. She rebounded after that with a December victory at the Las Vegas Half-Marathon in 1:10:40 to show she is ready for the competition in Houston. Willis played field hockey for 15 years, representing her country in international play for three years, before choosing to become a full time runner.

Olaru recently became a U.S. citizen and had hoped to compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials here, but even though her native country approved of her switch, the paperwork has not been completed and she was ineligible to participate in that race. Olaru finished second in the 2009 Houston Marathon with a time of 2:27:30. She won the Garden of the Gods 10-miler this past summer.

Delalecha recorded personal bests in both the marathon and half-marathon in 2011 after deciding in the summer of 2010 to quit her job and focus fully on her sport. The decision appears to be paying big dividends. She posted 2011 wins in both the Pittsburgh and Grandma’s Marathons and took top honors in two of the three half-marathon’s she ran. Her 18th place at the NYC Half-Marathon was an atypical outing for Delelecha who got her start running cross country for Ethiopia.

Career OverviewTilahun Regassa is a half marathon specialist who stepped up to the marathon distance this past fall—not to run the full distance, however, but to pace the leaders at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon through 30K. Regassa performed to perfection, resulting in a course record by Kenya’s Moses Mosop. It would appear that it’s only a matter of time before Regassa becomes a world-class marathoner in his own right.

Regassa owns an impressive half marathon personal best of 59:19, which he set in winning the 2010 Zayed International Half Marathon in Abu Dhabi. He also clocked 59:36 in Lille, France in 2008, and most recently notched a 1:00:59 performance at the 2011 New Delhi Half Marathon in November. Regassa represented Ethiopia at the 2009 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, placing 11th.

In the summer of 2009, Regassa had an extremely successful turn on the U.S. road racing circuit, with victories at the Falmouth Road Race in Cape Cod, MA, the Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston, S.C., the Ukrops Monument Ave. 10 km in Richmond, VA, the Bolder Boulder 10 km in Boulder, CO, and a runner-up finish at the Bay to Breakers 12K in San Francisco, CA.

However, after popping up on the radar once more with another steeplechase performance in 2006, Sisay did not record any additional notable performances until bursting back onto the scene in 2011 with a pair of impressive half marathon and marathon debuts in New York City.

At the 2011 NYC Half Marathon, the Flagstaff, AZ-based Sisay was the early leader through 10 km before finishing 10th in a personal best 1:01:56. In the fall, Sisay returned to New York for the ING New York City Marathon and once again assumed the early race lead before ultimately finishing ninth in his marathon debut with a respectable time of 2:11:04.

Crossing the finish line of the Chevron Houston Marathon, Aramco Houston Half Marathon or El Paso Corporation

5K is a well-deserved reward for the hard work runners endure while training for their race. By participating in the

Run for a Reason charity program, that hard work does more than get runners to the finish line; it offers help and

hope to the thousands of people who benefit from the charities in this program.

Linking runners with 57 participating nonprofits, the Run for a Reason program provides an avenue for race

participants, individuals and organizations to collect donations on behalf of an official charity. In addition, the

program offers a platform for charities to raise awareness and educate others about their important cause.

Last year, the Run for a Reason program raised a record $2,086,000 for 52 charities, and to-date, has surpassed

$13-million raised for local nonprofits since its inception in 1995. Prizes are awarded to the top fundraisers based

on total number of dollars raised.

For additional information about the Run for a Reason charity program, visit RunforaReasonHouston.org.
