2013-2014 Be Tough

After a (24-3) season and a third straight region championship, the Cardinals are once again

looking to make history. They are aspiring to be the first team in school history to win four

straight conference championships. This feat will take nothing less than hard work and

determination. The team has been working hard throughout the off season to carry on the strong

tradition of Cardinal Basketball. Last year the Cardinals averaged 79 points per game but 68 of those points were lost to

graduation. Gone are All- State forward Daniel Bridges (USC Upstate), All- Region Point Guard

Truston Whiteside (Southern Wesleyan), All- Region Shooting Guard Chris Schulman (Georgia

Highlands CC), and Mark Wilson who was a three point specialist. With the absence of last

year‟s top scorers, the Cardinals will look to develop new leaders to help this team achieve their

goals. This year‟s team is very young and inexperienced on the varsity level. With the balance of

some key seniors helping the youngsters grow as players, this team has the capability to surprise

a lot of teams. In the pre-season rankings the Cardinals were picked to finish 4th

. This team has

something to prove. Through hard work and toughness, the Cardinals will look to defend their

Region Championship and make school history. The lone returning starter is Aaron Bryant (Sr.) who has started for 3 years. Aaron will look to

take over the point guard spot and become the coach on the floor. Trevor Walker (Sr.) and Jonah

Corn (Sr.) have been waiting patiently to lead this very young team from the perimeter spots.

Trevor and Jonah are both sharp shooting guards who can score in bunches. Their skill and their

high basketball IQ makes these two seniors dangerous on the floor. Jacob “Magic” Corn returns

for his sophomore season after being pulled up from the Junior Varsity team for the second half

of last year‟s season. Jacob is a versatile guard who can handle the point guard spot if needed,

but he also has a pure shot from outside. Standing at 6‟3, Magic can really cause some match-up

problems for opposing teams. 6‟0 guard Ryan Schulman (Soph.) will also be asked to contribute

right away. Schulman, known for his defense and rebounding, will bank valuable minutes as a

sophomore. His development throughout the season will be a key ingredient if the Cardinals

want to win four straight conference championships. Brandon Hill (Sr.), who moved up from the

JV team this year, will also contribute by knocking down the open three point shot. Standing at

only 5‟6, Brandon will be challenged on the varsity level, but his tough demeanor will help the

team immensely. Brandon has the capability of knocking down the open shot and also making

the extra pass to get a teammate a better shot. Foster Bridges (8th

) will be getting valuable

minutes at a young age. The 6‟4 wing can knock down the three ball consistently. Bridges will

play multiple positions throughout his 8th

grade campaign. Andrew Mitchell (Soph.) is a

newcomer who stands at 6‟3. Andrew is a tough nosed wing player who has the capability of

knocking down the outside shot and attacking the basket. Andrew is another sophomore who will

be relied upon heavily. Joey Thomas (Sr.) will take over the role of holding down the paint area.

Joey a 6‟2 strong body player will focus on rebounding and scoring in the paint. Joey also brings

a tough physical and mental attitude that all players need to adopt. Austin Miller (Sr.) will also

contribute in the paint. Miller has really worked on his jump shot in the off season and can

consistently hit the open mid-range jumper. Daniel Cooper (Jr.) is another player who moved up

from the JV team. Daniel is a 6‟0 foot forward who plays above the rim. Daniel is the schools

best high jumper for the track team and uses his leaping ability to grab rebounds. Erinn Bridges

(Jr.) is a 6‟6 Center who will also help out in the post area. Bridges is a hard working kid who is

Page 8: Media Guide 2013-2014

8

improving daily. Dalton Lawson (Fr.) standing at 6‟2 will need to develop quickly as he will be

asked to also bank some valuable minutes as a freshman. Dalton has some good post moves and

with experience on the varsity level, he can become a very good player for the Cardinals. Our

last Cardinal player is a 6‟2 post player who unfortunately will be sitting this season out. Kaleb

Dill tore his ACL in football camp and will not ready to play again until his senior season.
