Dogs bins due soonExtension of the boundary wall height was mandated by a local

authority with the intention of increasing community safety. To facilitate this recommendation, a contractor was appointed to trim trees and plants encroaching RTA and Dubai Municipality areas. Work is underway to increase the height of the boundary wall at Meadows 1 & 2 to 2.2 metres from ground level.

Taking security to new heights

Fright night in the communities Friendly ghouls, scary monsters, cartoon characters, creepy crawlies, cute minions and all things Halloween came alive at the annual Halloween Event and Costume Contest that took place across various Emaar communities in the last week of October.

Children had a frightfully delightful day with haunted houses, arts & crafts corners, music, candy and games in addition to food stations that served snacks and beverages. The highlight of the event was the Costume Contest, in which children participated for a chance to win prizes in various categories. This was followed by trick or treating in the villa communities, as groups went door to door to claim their candy.

From the looks of it, everyone had a great time and we look forward to another fright night next year. Visit our Flickr page at bit.ly/ecm-events to see pictures of the event in each of our communities.

New shrubs for MeadowsdriveThe Meadows drive will go through a major landscaping enhancement, in which new shrubs will be planted on the road sides. The new shrubs will eliminate illegal parking to enhance road safety and will also prevent damage to the grass, irrigation boxes and valve sprinklers, caused by vehicles using the road.

Pet owners in the community will soon have more options for binning dog poop with the expected delivery of new bins. Installation is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2017.

Get ready for a greener community With the intention of ensuring that the landscaping lining community streets is lush and green, two tree replacement projects are currently underway.

Meadows 1, 2A survey was recently carried out in which a total of 120 non-performing trees were identified. Since the previous project in which trees were replaced with Pongamia trees was a success, the same solution is being applied in Meadows 1 and 2.

Energy conservation plays a key role in reducing utility costs and greenhouse gas emissions. As part of our Energy Management programme, there are plans to introduce socially and environmentally sustainable products and solutions in Emirates Living communities.

In fact, more than 3,200 street lights in Emirates Living have now been retrofitted with energy efficient LED lamps. Apart from improving lighting in the community and saving on utility bills, these new lamps are also expected to reduce maintenance costs since they have a lifespan of five years.

Meadows 5Planting is in progress in Meadows 5 to increase the adaptability of trees as the weather cools down. Once the project is completed, there will be no missing trees across Meadows 5.

Paving new pathwaysRestoration, construction and levelling of community pathways is underway in The Meadows. Many of the benches along the lake have been given a proper interlock base so that the existing pathway is not obstructed. The current outdoor fitness equipment will also be surrounded by an 80cm wide interlock to prevent water splashing onto the rubber flooring and equipment.

With winter here, everyone will want to make the best of the weather spending more time outdoors. Unfortunately, that sentiment is shared by some unfriendly flying insects. Rest assured though, work is already underway to control and eliminate pest infestations in common areas using specialised integrated pest management companies,

Moreover, the lakes in Emirates Living are saline and do not encourage mosquito breeding. In addition, they are home to wadi fish, which were introduced a few years ago. The fish provide a natural pest control mechanism as they feed on insect larvae, thus preventing insects from breeding. Nonetheless, our service provider conducts frequent inspections across all areas of the community, including the lakes, to locate hotspots and treat problem areas with approved pesticides that are not harmful to humans, plants or pets.

Most often, mosquito infestations are traced to stagnant water inside private property such as swimming pools, water features and fountains or puddles from irrigation systems that have not been maintained. All residents are encouraged to carry out frequent inspections within their property and appoint a pest control company to conduct routine maintenance to prevent infestations that could affect the community or the neighbours.

Precautions to preventmosquitoes

Maintaining the aesthetics of the common areas in the community is a continuous process. To this effect, the water meter cabinets will undergo complete refurbishment with enhancements already underway in Meadows 1 and 2.

Added parking near DubaiBritish SchoolThe development of additional parking spots adjacent to Dubai British School was completed as scheduled. The previous 16 parking slots have been increased to 43 and an even wider pathway has been developed to accommodate pedestrians.

Speeding in the community is a safety risk for residents and visitors alike. So with the intention of enhancing road safety in the community, construction of speed humps between the roundabouts and at the gatehouse has been completed in Meadows 5, 6, 7 and 8.

New community park to relax and unwindNow, there’re even more reason to head outdoors with the development of a new community park behind Emirates International School. Hard and soft landscaping has been completed making it a perfect place to take a break while cycling or walking through the community. Additionally, a total of 120 trees were transplanted from The Meadows and The Lakes communities to add to the greenery. Access to the park will be restricted to residents only via an aluminium fence.

As part of our commitment to maintain a pleasant environment, abandoned motor and water vehicles are being reported to local authorities, who are actively removing unidentified vehicles across the community that are in contravention of Community Rules and RTA regulations.

An abandoned vehicle is one that has been left unused for a long period of time or kept in a deteriorating manner, usually left behind by occupants who have moved away from the community.

Below are some tips to help identify whether a vehicle is abandoned:• Litter on or around the car suggesting it hasn’t been moved for some time • Missing number plates• Graffiti on the vehicle• A dusty and dirty appearance

In coordination with local authorities, over 15 vehicles have been removed in recent weeks either by their owners or Dubai Police.

Removal of abandoned vehicles Marking Martyr’s Day All Emaar communities were part of the Flag Day campaign to honour the martyrs of the UAE Armed Forces who heroically laid down their lives for their nation. To express solidarity with His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the leaders of the UAE and the nation, the UAE national flag was raised at gatehouses, roundabouts and prominent locations in our communities.

And the EPL champions are…The fifth season of Emaar Premier League’s (EPL) outdoor cricket tournament began in the last quarter of 2016. The tournament was played by eight teams at the ICC Academy Grounds in Dubai Sports City. The sporting event was a chance for all cricket enthusiasts to get on top of their game and concluded with Super Heroes emerging as the winners.
