According to researcher, Richard Allington, "summer reading loss accounts for at least 80 percent of the reading achievement gap by 9th grade." To counter this trend, for the second summer in a row APS is providing the Traveling Reading Trolley to Drew families. The Traveling Reading Trolley will pick-up students and an adult family member from Drew Model School at 5:30 pm and carry them to the Shirlington Library for a night of fun that includes library card registration, read alouds and book selection. Partici-pants will return to Drew at 8:30 pm. Each week students will learn about a new habitat and enjoy a visit from a live animal that makes its home there. The Traveling Reading Trolley operates on:

July 9 - July 16 - July 23 - July 30

Families are invited to attend all four sessions. We are in need of volunteers to assist families on the trolley and at the library. If you know of anyone who may be interested they can contact me via the email address below or on 703-228-8129. As always, we greatly appreciate you sharing this information with your members. Thank you for all that you do to make a difference at Drew Model School.

************ PLEASE TAKE NOTE: There should be no walking in the sanctuary during prayer, the message or altar call, unless you are coming to the altar. If there is an emergency, please request the usher’s assistance. Thank you.
