    Generation Nows Back2School Basketball Fellowship at the Cora Kelly RecreationCenter is this Saturday, September 7th from 12-5. There will be dribblingstations and free throw competition for our youth. There will be short basketballgames played between GN staff, deacons, and our SWAG students.     As part of MBCs association with the Interchurch Community Health Initiative, thefollowing is pertinent information on the CANCER PREVENTION STUDY-3:Research today for a cancer-free tomorrow.

    To better understand ways to prevent cancer, the American Cancer Society isrecruiting men and women across the U.S. and Puerto Rico for a landmark newresearch study Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). CPS-3 will help researchers

    better understand the lifestyle, genetic and environmental factors that may cause orprevent cancer.

    During the weeks of September 21 - October 3, 2013, the opportunity to enrollin CPS-3 in Northern Virginia will be made possible in partnership with BurkePresbyterian Church, Fairfax County Health Department, New LifeChristian Church, Reston Hospital Center, South County Health Centerand The Vienna Community Center.

    Individuals may choose to participate if they are between 30 and 65 years old, havenever been diagnosed with cancer, and are willing to make a long-term commitmentto the study (which involves completing follow-up surveys periodically over the next20-30 years).

    The 2013 Bible Study Scheduleat 7pm

    Each 1st Wednesdaywill be Corporate Prayer and Praise. Everyone isencouragedand invited to attend.Every2nd Wednesdayof the month will be Pastors Bible Study which is open toeveryone.Every3rd Wednesdayof the month will be Mens and Womens Bible Study.

    Each 4th Wednesdaywill be Young Adult Bible Study.

    The 5th Wednesdayof each month will be Leadership Night. All leaders of MBCwill meet with Pastor Hamlin.

    COMMUNITY NEWS:2013-14 Tutoring at the NCSC:

    Required Parent Orientation Sessions will take place on October 8, 2013 and October10, 2013 at 5 pm. Parents must attend one of the two sessions in order for their chil-dren to participate and registration is required.

    This program is FREE to all Arlington Residents, but only the first 15 students will beadmitted.

    Tutoring Sessions will take place from October 15, 2013 - May 13, 2014 on Tuesdaysand Thursdays, 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm. Snack, juice and homework help will be providedfor every child and rewards will be given for attendance at the end of the year!

    Tree Distribution Event

    Free trees! Arlington County's Natural Resources Division is providing 500 native treespecies for residents. The annual tree distribution event takes place Saturday,October 26 at the Arlington County nursery facility (located in South Arlington onSouth Four Mile Run, behind Barcroft Field #6), 8am-3 pm. Stay tuned for moredetails including your chance to register and choose your tree of liking.

    Fort Barnard Park Playground Re-Design

    The reconstruction of the playground at Fort Barnard Park will focus on playequipment, picnic shelter, accessibility from Pollard Street and around theplayground, site furnishings, site drainage improvements and enhanced plantings

    which will all be implemented according to current playground safety guidelines andADA standards. The project is expected to be completed Spring 2014.

    Towers Park Site Improvements

    As part of the County Maintenance Capital Program reconstruction of Towers Parkwill begin soon. Updates include replacement of all basketball, tennis, practice courtsand picnic shelter, as well as minor improvements to the dog areas, paths, lighting andparking lot. These improvements will bring the facility up to current Park designstandards and provide accessibility as required by ADA. The project is expected to becompleted Spring 2014.
