Upcoming Events ………………………………….
Dear Parents,
This has been an extremely busy first half of term two. In the last week I have had the
pleasure of seeing two outstanding assemblies from Year 5 & 6 where the students
show cased their learning, singing and presentation skills. I also had the privilege of
presenting a range of certificates from ‘being a supportive friend’ to ‘developing
independent learning skills’, all of which demonstrates how well our upper primary
students are developing. I would like to thank parents for their support at these
assemblies and look forward to seeing you at the Christmas shows.
Primary and Secondary students have been on visits to the Commonwealth War Graves
at Htaukkyant cemetery and also had the opportunity to participate in a creative
writing competition where the entries were of an outstanding caliber.
Secondary students have their end of semester exams this week and I would like to
thank parents for their attendance at the recent subject parents’ evenings as part of our
triangular partnership.
I hope everyone enjoyed the long week-end.
Yours sincerely
Carl Dent (Principal)
At the secondary parent workshop held at the end of term 1 a request was made by a number of
parents for information on the text books that are used as part of our Teaching and Learning
Strategy for each subject area.
I have put together a list of text books and other resources and websites which are currently being
used in lessons.
This information can be found on our website under Curriculum/ Secondary at the bottom of the
list on the right hand side named KS 3 and KS 4 Subject Resource guide. I hope parents find this
very helpful.
Text Books
At the same meetings parents also asked for guidance and clarification on homework. There is
now a Network School Homework Policy on our website which parents can read and download
from the Information/ School policy tab.
Homework Policy
We have updated the curriculum for all phases on our website to help and support students and
parents. The website now has a curriculum overview for the whole school followed by more
detailed information for each phase, which includes the long term curriculum plans, and for
secondary all the IGCSE syllabuses.

iGCSE PE Shirt
The Year 10 students were very excited when the school arranged for them to have their very own
iGCSE Network PE shirt which also had their individual student names printed on the back.
On the last day of term the Secondary students ended their day with a Student vs Staff basketball
match. The students who didn’t participate were spectators and a great time was had by all, especially
the teachers who won all matches apart from a tie with Years 10 & 11:

In our effort to promote literacy at Network International School we have launched a series of writing and reading related
competitions: namely a Creative Writing Competition. This competition was open to years 5-11 and consisted of two
options: 'Describe a journey to a special place' and 'If I was president of Myanmar I would...' Entries had to be fewer than 500
words in length with careful attention paid to purpose, audience and technical accuracy. The quality of writing was very
encouraging and picking the results proved to be a tricky task for the three judges! Well done to everyone who participated
and made this is a great competition. Be sure to look out for your pictures in The Global New Light of Myanmar Newspaper
this week!'

Network International Day
BOOM!! And just like that, international day
started. The day had finally come. Everyone was
excited, about the entertaining, international talent
show!
Everyone wore traditional clothing; most of the
children had entered the talent show, where the
“celebrity judges” were absolutely crazy, wild and
totally INSANE!!!! They wore extreme make up and
had cut their hair to look like punks! We hardly
recognised them!
Some of the acts were: the startling footballers and
juggling acts, the hip hoppers, Korean singers,
wonderful dancers, the hilarious clowns, a robot
dance and skits. There was also a mystical magic
show, two energetic hula-hoop acts, a harmonizing
choir with their fantastic leader. There was also an
expert puzzle solver, who could solve a rubix cube
in a couple of minutes; his fingers were like mini
acrobats. However, the most popular act by far was
the dance to ‘Grease Lightning’, by the teachers (the
judges).
Following the talent show, we went outside (on to
the football pitch) to take photos with our classes.
After that, everybody went upstairs to share their
traditional snacks, yet instead of a snack, there was
a feast fit for a king! Although the children and
teachers did their best, they just couldn’t get
through all the food, so we were able to share with
other members of the school too.
All in all this was a awesome way to end term 1.

Primary Cross Country Event
Young Champs! Having trained so hard, finally the day arrived when the cross
country race would begin.
Arriving early motivated us to run our very fastest! As we enrolled
for the race, our opponents looked at us – they were terrifyingly
competitive! Taking the challenge, we dared to approach the start
line.
Once we were at the start, the commentator knocked our
confidence by saying ‘If you fall you lose!’ However, we did not
give up, in fact we all crossed the finish line like Olympic runners!
The race was long, hard and tiring, but we persevered and our
teachers were extremely proud of us all.
Luckily for us, we were able to see the U15, U19 & teachers races and cheer Team Network on.
Overall, we were amazingly proud to represent Network School at the inter schools cross country and
thoroughly enjoyed the morning.

Cross Country Competition
On Friday 6th of November a selection of Network students participated in a cross country competition,
competing against other international schools from Yangon. All the students showed great enthusiasm and
determination throughout the event, It was fantastic to see the students enjoying themselves and representing
Network at such a prestigious occasion. Two students performed particularly well and were placed in the top
three places for their age category. Calvin in year 11 came third in the boys under 19 event and Lwin Min in year
9 came second in the boys under 15 event. At the end of the student races there was a teacher/coaches race. In this
competition, teacher Sally came 1st out of the women who were participating and teacher Henry came second in
the men's section of the race. Overall, the contest was really well run by the officials, organisers and coaches/
teachers. It was also brilliant to see so many parents watching and cheering on all the students who were taking
part. Everyone clearly enjoyed the experience and Network will be looking forward to participating in this cham-
pionship again next year!

Rememberance Day Trip
What were your experiences and why do we
remember?
Remembrance Day is the anniversary of
the end of World War 1, on the 11th day of the
11th month each year. Every year on this day,
people around the world do different things
to honor and remember all the soldiers who
sacrificed their lives fighting in the war for
their friends, their families, and their
countries. It is also a day when the relatives of
the deceased come to visit the graves of their
ancestors, and appreciate all that they did for
the country and the world.
Most people can be found wearing
poppies on the day, as a symbol that
represents all the blood that was shed by the
soldiers, and as a sign of bravery. The poppies
also bring back memories of the moment after
the battle, when poppy flowers began to grow
on the barren wasteland. This day is also a
day where we can reflect and learn from our
mistakes, as we look at the sacrifices made by
these brave men and hope that a war like this
would be forbidden to happen again.
Many students showed that they
enjoyed the scenery and the experiences the
cemetery had to offer. Even though the day
was long and hot, we were not hesitant to
walk around and explore the grounds, taking
in the details of the graves of the respected
soldiers that fought to bring peace and unity
to the world. We were able to feel the love the
families of the dead had for the men, and
were able to relate to their grief and pain of
losing a loved one. We each were given a
chance to express our respect and gratitude
through written epitaphs and we can only
hope these heroes can feel our love and grief
from a better place.
As we live on day by day, we are bound to
remember the memories that make us happy, the
memories that make us sad, and the memories that
coloured our days. We remember to keep those
memories alive, as they are a part of us that we can
never live without. Through this short trip we
remember the sacrifices these heroes made, and the
blood they shed to fight for the world we are living
in now. It is a reminder in life never to forget about
what so many people have done for us, and to
continue the heroic deeds in our generation in
honour of the soldiers of World War 1.
