The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

At times, we may find it hard to comprehend that Jesus is truly here and

present with us. Each time we receive Holy Communion, we truly receive Christ.

Nourished and strengthened by Jesus, we draw closer to him. Our participation in

Holy Communion allows us to live in greater love and unity with one another and gives us the strength we need to share

Christ’s light and love with others.

No June Pastoral Council Meeting ~ The Pastoral Council will NOT meet on Tuesday, June 7 @ 6:30 PM nor will the Council meet in July. Meetings will resume in August. Enjoy the summer off!

MINISTRY MINUTES

What are you Doing This Summer?

Here are some upcoming diocesan events for families/teens.

Diocesan Family Fun Camp June 30-July 2

Villa Maria Retreat Center, Lake Springfield

The Diocesan Family Fun Camp is a faith-filled affordable gathering for families of all ages and sizes. Held at the Villa Maria Catholic Life Retreat Center, this is the second year that we have gathered families so that they can truly relax, spend time in prayer – as individuals, married couples and as a whole family – and pause from the distractions of the modern world while enjoying true recreation. Different tracks will keep parents, teens and children engaged in different ways throughout the days. Activities currently planned are: nightly bonfires, a party barge boat excursion, hikes, games, movies and more. You will leave inspired, renewed and motivated to do wonderful things for God - precisely as a family! We are excited to have you join us. Contact www.dio.org/familylife/camp or call 217-321-1139. Scholarships are available to help with costs.

Teens Encounter Christ (TEC)

TEC is having their next weekend from June 25 to June 27, 2016. TEC is essentially Koinonia for teens (ages 16-21). Just like at Koinonia, we discover the Paschal Mystery by dying, rising and going forth with Jesus. Who are the young people you know who would benefit from the same experience? The application can be found online at http://www.tecofspringfield.com/ and then e-mailed to [email protected]. The cost of the weekend is $100 and will be held at the Latter Rain Retreat Center in Litchfield, IL. You may also contact Robin B-R at the parish office for more information.

Villa Maria Catholic Life Conference and Retreat Center Springfield, IL

‘Called and Sent’ is a program that offers high school students the opportunity to be formed as the next generation of disciples in the Church. The program will provide an environment in which young people will be able to encounter Christ in a personal and powerful way. They will come to understand who Christ is, and in coming to know Him, they will come to better understand who they are in relationship to Him. This then leads to a greater awareness of how they are called to live their faith intentionally as disciples. Go to http://dio.org/vocations/called-and-sent.html to view their brochure and to register.

Reflection ~ Robin Black-Rubenstein

“They all ate and were satisfied”, these words from Luke’s

Gospel remind us of the abundance of our Lord’s love and

care for us and for all creation. Often the message we hear in

the world is a message of scarcity, not abundance. One of my

favorite secular authors, Dr. Brene Brown in her book, Daring

Greatly, she has concluded through her research that we live

in a world that promotes the fear of not having and not being

enough. She believes through trust, honesty,

wholeheartedness and vulnerability we can change the culture

of scarcity and fear. I think her research and writing appeal to

me because it contains echoes of the teachings of my faith

directly from the Gospels. When we fear there is not enough,

like the disciples did in today’s Gospel, we “Dismiss” others

and send them looking for what they need on their own, but

when we trust that God will provide what we need, we are less

fearful that there will be enough. When we trust that we are

loved unconditionally by God then we are able to offer the

best of our selves to others. When we celebrate the Eucharist,

we become one with Christ’s Body and Blood. When we

accept the Eucharist into our being, we commit ourselves to

be present to others in service and in love. As disciples we are

to “Give them some food”. We have enough. We have Love

in abundance from our Lord.

Free Lunch Fridays

Our next service date is Friday, June 10. Contact Robin Black-Rubenstein at the parish office with any questions or to volunteer. Email [email protected].

Stewardship

The more popular name for today’s Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is Corpus Christi, which of course in Latin means the “Body of Christ.” The Church has celebrated this feast at this time since it was proclaimed by Pope Urban IV in 1264.

We are asked on this day to concentrate on two expressions of the Body of Christ — the Holy Eucharist and the Church itself. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (#1327) states the importance of the Eucharist quite succinctly and directly: “In brief, the Eucharist is the sum and summary of our faith.” At the center of every Mass is our celebration of the Eucharist. The word “Eucharist” comes from the Greek word eucharistia which means “thanksgiving.” It is through the Eucharist which we receive the Lord’s greatest gift to us, and it should be in thanksgiving and delight which we receive it.

This holy day should also remind us of all those things for which we should be thankful. Gratitude is at the basis of a life of stewardship. It is through thanksgiving for all we have received, especially the Holy Body and Blood of Christ through the Eucharist, that we find the motivation and the commitment to be good stewards.

The Pontiff Emeritus Benedict XVI in one of his writings spoke of the Eucharist in this way: “In the Eucharist a communion takes place that corresponds to the union of man and woman in marriage. Just as they become ‘one flesh,’ so in the Eucharist we all become ‘one spirit,’ one person with Christ.” Today we thank God for the incredible gift to us of the Eucharist.

Robin Hake, Business Manager [email protected]

Stewardship Prayer

Oh, God hear our prayer as we seek to be good stewards of the many gifts You have bestowed on us. Give us wisdom to discern Your will for us, strength to meet the challenge, and the grace to be steadfast in our commitment to You. Let us use our time, talent and treasure for Your greater honor and glory. In Your name, we pray. Amen.

St. Boniface appreciates your gifts to the church. We would like to suggest some ways to make your gift giving easier:

• Easy and convenient! EFT is an automatic withdrawal from your checking account on a monthly basis. There are no service fee charges! All we need is a copy of your cancelled check and your authorization form for an amount to be given automatically. Once a month giving is as easy as paying your light bill!

• Traditional weekly contribution envelopes provided by the church. This allows us to give you credit for the gifts you give to the church. We have no way to credit anonymous gifts of cash.

• Are you visiting or have not yet registered? We will send you a thank you letter for your contribution (if you give by check) that can be used for tax purposes. Cash donations are more difficult unless a name and address are included with the gift.

All gifts to St. Boniface are tax deductible!

Knights of Columbus, Edwardsville Council 1143

Calling All Catholic Men: The Knights of Columbus is holding their next major degree on Sunday, June 5, beginning with registration at 12:30 p.m. This is a perfect opportunity to join our ranks and help us in our charitable, family and fun activities. Contact Scott Bayless, [email protected], to get more information on the process of being a Knight.

Bar-B-Que: The Knights are having a BBQ on Sunday, June 12, at the KC Hall, 7132 Marine Rd., Edwardsville. We are serving baby back ribs, pork steaks, chicken, pulled pork and brats from 11:30 a.m.—5:00 p.m. Dinners and sandwiches are available. Dinners come with two sides (potato salad, macaroni salad, baked beans, coleslaw and apple sauce) and sandwiches come with one. Eat in the hall or carry out.

Golf Fundraiser: All are welcome to join the Knight’s largest fundraiser of the year, which provides us the funds to contribute to the two parishes and high school we support, will be held on Saturday, July 9, at Oak Brook Golf Club. Our contributions depend on all parishioners making this fundraiser a success. More details to follow but reserve the date now. Contact Scott Garman, [email protected], to get your foursome reserved or to offer sponsorships/donations.
