The question seemingly entails uncertainty and fear which manifests disbelief. Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God. She is our mother! Mary, as our Mother, knows best where we are going and what we need to do. Take heed of her advice: "Do whatever He tells you!" Knowing that she is with us, let's open our hearts and go where the Church is going. Pope Francis has aptly described this moment in history as "a world war in installments." The New Year is always an opportunity for the Church to pray for the preservation of peace and justice in the world. Pope Francis has encouraging words about peace when he said: "It is truly a formidable undertaking to work for peace by living the practice of nonviolence." We need to learn the transforming power of nonviolence. Nonviolence, not only as strategy, but a way of life; and as Christians, as a faith commitment to the common good. As church people, our appeal to this New Year 2017 is: "the time has come for our church to be a living witness and to invest far greater human and financial resources in promoting a spirituality and practice of active nonviolence and in forming and training our Catholic communities in effective nonviolent practices. The Child Jesus, God with us, is our inspiration and model. Peace must begin in us. We must look at ourselves and all the violence within us that is denied and suppressed. In doing so, we as a church can create safe spaces where people can come together, give voice to their life experiences - hard and hopeful - so that we can together heal our inner wounds and find strength to take personal responsibility for violence. QUO VADIS? It's a Latin phrase meaning "Where are you going?" People keep asking where are we going in 2017? The question seemingly entails uncertainty and fear which manifests disbelief. Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God. She is our mother! Mary, as our Mother, knows best where we are going and what we need to do. Take heed of her advice: "Do whatever He tells you!" Knowing that she is with us, let's open our hearts and go where the Church is going. Pope Francis has aptly described this moment in history as "a world war in installments." Pope Francis has encouraging words about peace when he said: "It is truly a formidable undertaking to work for peace by living the practice of nonviolence." We need to learn the transforming power of nonviolence. Nonviolence, not only as strategy, but a way of life; and as Christians, as a faith commitment to the common good. NOVENA TO THE HOLY INNOCENTS: Pray for an end to abortion and all violence against children. Most Rev. Myron J. Cotta, Auxiliary Bishop of Sacramento, invites the Catholic Community to pray the Novena to the Holy Innocents. “Heavenly Father, by their wordless profession of faith in your Son, the Holy Innocents were given a martyr’s crown in the early days after the Sav-ior’s birth. Knowing how precious they are to You, we call on them to join in our prayer for an end to abortion and all forms of violence against children. That all gov-ernmental executives, legislators and judges may acknowledge the humanity of every child in the womb and enact laws and policies to defend them, we pray. For our own conversion and that of others so that all would recognize and defend the life and dignity of the unborn, we pray. Finally, that all innocent children, who are vic-timized in any way would experience God’s love and mercy, we pray. Lord hear our prayer.”

THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS AND THE AMER-

ICAN WHEELCHAIR MISSION will be here at all

Masses on “WHEELCHAIR SUNDAY”, January 21 &

gain mobility and freedom. Join them and Fr. Mario for this very inspirational and moving presentation.

RESPECT LIFE: Please remember our Annual Cele-bration of Life which will be held on January 22, at all the Masses. It will be the 43rd anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, but we will celebrate the new lives in our Parish by gifting them with blessed blankets so we can surround them with our love. Please keep the knitting, sewing, or purchasing of blankets on your agenda and help us cele-brate the most wondrous gift of all – new life in its abun-dance! Thank you!

The church offices will be CLOSED Monday, January 2. The staff of OLM wish you a safe and blessed New Year. Many Thanks for all of the very generous donations of food items from our parishioners for our Christmas baskets for those in need. We were able to provide Christmas meals for 100 families during Christmas week.
