“In Catholic theology, we understand the persons of the Blessed Trinity subsisting within the inner life of God to be truly distinct relationally, but not as a matter of essence, or nature. Each of the three persons in the godhead possesses the same eternal and infinite divine nature.”

En este domingo después de Pentecostés, celebramos como iglesia el Domingo de la Santísima Trinidad. Para ayudarnos a reflexionar sobre el Misterio de la Santísima Trinidad, he seleccionado la pintura Santísima Trinidad de José Jiménez Aranda (1837-1903). Aquí en esta imagen, vemos a las Tres Personas de la Santísima Trinidad bellamente rodeadas por el resplandor de la dorada luz celestial. Como vemos en esta pintura, en la teología católica, entendemos que las personas de la Santísima Trinidad que subsisten en la vida interior de Dios son verdaderamente distintas en relación, pero no como una cuestión de esencia o naturaleza, sino cada una de las tres personas en la divinidad, posee la misma naturaleza divina eterna e infinita. Desde el comienzo de la Iglesia, la Iglesia ha creído y enseñado la Doctrina de la Trinidad. Sin embargo, la

Iglesia no usó la palabra Trinidad al inicio. La primera persona en la Iglesia en usar la palabra y desarrollar el término teológico, Trinidad, para describir a Dios, fue Tertuliano. Tertuliano fue un padre de la iglesia primitiva que vivió alrededor del año 200 d. Tertuliano y muchos de los primeros Padres de la Iglesia, basan sus enseñanzas en la doctrina de la Trinidad en las Sagradas Escrituras. Desde los comienzos de las Escrituras, en las primeras páginas del Antiguo Testamento, del Libro de Génesis, obtenemos un sentido de la unidad de Dios, pero también de una complejidad dentro de esa unidad. Leemos en el Libro del Génesis, en el relato de la creación, que el Espíritu de Dios flotaba sobre las aguas.

Además, un poco más adelante en Génesis, encontramos la presencia de la Trinidad. En el relato de la creación del hombre, leemos: "Dios dijo: hagamos al hombre a nuestra propia imagen, a semejanza de nosotros mismos" (Génesis 1: 26). "Lo que es interesante en este pasaje del Libro de Génesis es que los pronombres que Dios usa para Sí mismo son plural, mientras que, al mismo tiempo, el tiempo verbal utilizado es singular. En este pasaje del Libro del Génesis, en su obra Contra Praxeas (su defensa, en todos los puntos esenciales), la Doctrina de la Santísima Trinidad, Tertuliano enseña, "si el número de la Trinidad también te ofende, como si no estuviera conectado en la Unidad simple, te pregunto cómo es posible que un Ser sea simple y absolutamente Uno y Singular, para hablar en una frase plural, diciendo: Hagamos al hombre a nuestra propia imagen y según nuestra propia semejanza (Gen 1:26), mientras que Él debería haber dicho: "Déjame hacer al hombre a mi propia imagen" y después mi propia semejanza, como siendo un Ser único y singular? En el siguiente pasaje, sin embargo, he aquí el hombre se ha convertido en uno de nosotros, (Gen 3:22) Él nos está engañando o divirtiendo al hablar en plural, si es uno solo y singular? ¿O fué a los ángeles que habló, como los judíos interpretan el pasaje, porque estos tampoco reconocen al Hijo? ¿O fuéporque era a la vez el Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu, que se habló a sí mismo en términos plurales, haciéndose plural en esa misma cuenta? No, fue porque Él ya tenía a Su Hijo cerca a Su lado, como una segunda Persona, Su propia Palabra, y una tercera Persona también, el Espíritu en la Palabra, que Él adoptó deliberadamente la frase plural, Hagamos; y, en nuestra imagen; y conviértete en uno de nosotros. Porque, ¿con quién hizo El hombre? ¿Y a quién lo hizo querer? (La respuesta debe ser), el Hijo, por un lado, que un día se puso la naturaleza humana; y el Espíritu en el otro, quien debía santificar al hombre. Con esto habló Él entonces, en la Unidad de la Trinidad, como con Sus ministros y testigos ".

Felicidades a la clase de octavo grado de 2018 de la escuela San Jose por su graduación el pasado miércoles. Nuestro Carnaval comienza esta semana. Por favor, vengan y apoyen el carnaval. También, el próximo domingo es Corpus Christi. Aunque es fin de semana de carnaval, tendremos una procesión en Corpus Christi después de la Misa de las 12:30 (si el clima lo permite), pero los 4 altares y la procesión se limitarán a la esquina sureste de nuestro campus. Todos están invitados a asistir. Que la Santísima Virgen María, Madre de la Buena Ayuda, nos ayude con su cuidado materno y que San José ore por nosotros. ¡

W Kościele przypada dzisiaj Niedziela Trójcy Przenajświętszej. Aby pogłębić nasze rozważania na ten temat, wybrałem obraz pędzla Jose Jimeneza Arandy (1837-1903). Widzimy tutaj Trzy Osoby Trójcy Świętej, otoczone złotą, niebiańską poświatą. Jak pokazuje nam ten obraz, a uczy teologia katolicka, Trzy Osoby Boskie współistnieją w Bogu, będąc równocześnie odrębnymi bytami. Każda z tych Osób ma tę samą wieczną i boską naturę. Kościół już od swego zarania wierzył w Trójcę Świętą i nauczał o Niej. Wierni wszakże nie zawsze określali Ją właśnie

tym mianem. Pierwszą osobą, która użyła słowa „Trójca” na określenie Boga (jak i stworzyła Jej teologiczną definicję) był Tertulian. Tertulian był Ojcem wczesnego Kościoła, żyjącym około roku 200 naszej ery. Podobnie jak wielu innych współczesnych mu teologów i uczonych, Tertulian oparł swoje nauczanie o Trójcy Świętej na Biblii. Już na samym początku Pisma Świętego, Księga Rodzaju mówi nam o naturze Boga oraz o złożoności tej natury. We fragmencie dotyczącym Stworzenia Świata jest mowa o tym, iż Duch Boży unosił się nad wodami. Kawałek dalej w tym samym fragmencie znowu widzimy nawiązanie do Trójcy: „A wreszcie rzekł Bóg: Uczyńmy człowieka na Nasz obraz, podobnego Nam. Niech panuje nad rybami morskimi, nad ptactwem powietrznym, nad bydłem, nad ziemią i nad wszystkimi zwierzętami pełzającymi po ziemi!” (Księga Wyjścia 1:26). Zauważmy, że Bóg używa tu wobec Siebie zaimków w liczbie mnogiej, ale czasownik jest w liczbie pojedynczej. Tertulian skomentował powyższy fragment w swoim dziele: „Adversus Praxean”, które jest tak naprawdę obroną Doktryny Trójcy Świętej. Zastanawia się on mianowicie, dlaczego Bóg, będący samodzielnym, pojedynczym Bytem, mówi o Sobie w liczbie mnogiej zamiast pojedynczej? Tertulian zwraca też uwagę na kolejny cytat: „Po czym Pan Bóg rzekł: Oto człowiek stał się taki jak My...” (Księga Wyjścia 3:22). Żydzi (nieuznający Syna Bożego) wierzą, że mówiąc w ten sposób, Bóg zwracał się do aniołów. Czy Bóg wyrażał się tak, gdyż jest równocześnie Ojcem Synem i Duchem? Nie. Prawda jest taka, że Bóg już wtedy na początku miał u Swego boku Syna, czyli Słowo – Drugą Osobę, oraz Ducha Świętego w tym Słowie. Właśnie dlatego przemawiał w liczbie mnogiej. Z Kim bowiem Bóg stwarzał człowieka? I na czyje podobieństwo go stworzył? Na podobieństwo Syna, Który w przyszłości przyjmie ludzką naturę, a także na podobieństwo Ducha: Trzeciej Osoby, który miał człowieka uświęcić. To z nimi Bóg wtedy rozmawiał, w jedności Trójcy Przenajświętszej. Serdecznie gratulujemy Rocznikowi 2018 Szkoły św. Józefa, który w minioną środę zakończył naukę w tej szkole. W tym tygodniu rozpoczyna się parafialny karnawał. Zapraszamy wszystkich gorąco do udziału w tym wydarzeniu. W przyszłą niedzielę obchodzić będziemy Boże Ciało. Mimo iż będzie to weekend karnawałowy, jeśli tylko pogoda pozwoli, po Mszy o 12:30 odbędzie się procesja do czterech ołtarzy (zarówno ołtarze, jak i procesja, ograniczone będą jednak do południowo-wschodniej części parafii). Wszyscy jesteście zaproszeni! Święta Maryjo, Matko Nieustającej Pomocy, miej nas zawsze w Swej opiece. Święty Józefie, módl się za nami. Vivat Iesus! Chwała Jezusowi!

Fr. Bob’s Briefs On this Sunday after Pentecost, the Church celebrates Holy Trinity Sunday. To help us reflect upon the Mystery of the Holy Trinity, I have selected the painting Holy Trinity by Jose Jimenez Aranda (1837-1903). Here in this image, we see the Three Persons of the Holy Trinity beautifully surrounded in the glow of golden heavenly light. As we see in this painting, in Catholic theology, we understand the persons of the Blessed Trinity subsisting within the inner life of God to be truly distinct relationally, but not as a matter of essence, or nature. Each of the three persons in the godhead possesses the same eternal and infinite divine nature From the very beginning of the Church, the Church has believed and taught the Doctrine of the Trinity. However, the Church did not use the

word Trinity from the very beginning. The first person in the Church to use the word, and develop theological term, Trinity to describe God was Tertullian. Tertullian was an early Church Father who lived around 200 AD. Tertullian, and many of the early Church Fathers, base their teaching on the doctrine of the Trinity on Holy Scripture. From the very beginnings of Scripture, in the first pages of the Old Testament, from the Book of Genesis, we get a sense of the oneness of God, but also of a complexity within that oneness. We read in the Book of Genesis, in the creation account, that the Spirit of God hovered over the waters.

Moreover, a little further in Genesis, we get another hint of the Trinity. In the account of the creation of man, we read, “God said, let us make man in our own image, in the likeness of ourselves." (Genesis 1: 26).” What is interesting in this passage from the Book of Genesis is that the pronouns that God uses for Himself is plural, while, at the same time, the verb tense used is singular. Writing on this passage from the Book of Genesis, in his work Against Praxeas (his defense, in all essential points, the Doctrine of the Holy Trinity), Tertullian teaches, “if the number of the Trinity also offends you, as if it were not connected in the simple Unity, I ask you how it is possible for a Being who is merely and absolutely One and Singular, to speak in plural phrase, saying, Let us Make man in our own image, and after our own likeness (Gen 1:26); whereas He ought to have said, Let me make man in my own image, and after my own likeness, as being a unique and singular Being? In the following passage, however, Behold the man has become as one of us, (Gen 3:22) He is either deceiving or amusing us in speaking plurally, if He is One only and singular. Or was it to the angels that He spoke, as the Jews interpret the passage, because these also acknowledge not the Son? Or was it because He was at once the Father, the Son, and the Spirit, that He spoke to Himself in plural terms, making Himself plural on that very account? Nay, it was because He had already His Son close at His side, as a second Person, His own Word, and a third Person also, the Spirit in the Word, that He purposely adopted the plural phrase, Let us make; and, in our image; and, become as one of us. For with whom did He make man? And to whom did He make him like? (The answer must be), the Son on the one hand, who was one day to put on human nature; and the Spirit on the other, who was to sanctify man. With these did He then speak, in the Unity of the Trinity, as with His ministers and witnesses.” Congratulations to the Eighth Grade Class of 2018 from St. Joseph School for their Graduation this past Wednesday. Our Carnival begins this week. Please come out and support the carnival. Also, next Sunday is Corpus Christi. Even though is carnival weekend, we will have a procession on Corpus Christi following the 12:30 Mass (weather permitting), but the 4 altars and procession will be confined to the southeast corner of our campus. All are invited to attend. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Good Help, help us with her maternal care and may St. Joseph pray for us.

Wednesday evening, May 23, we held our graduation ceremony for the class of 2018. As I stated at the graduation, two things stand out about the class of 2018. First, how they took care of their Kindergarten Church Buddies and how welcoming they were in inviting our younger children to play basketball or practice bumping the volleyball with them, and taking time out of their play to teach the proper way to bump the volleyball or shoot the basketball. Two of the high schools made presentations to our graduates: Mother McAuley presented Leia Baena with the Haerther Chariatbale Scholarship, and St. Laurence presented Hedi Chacon with the Viking Award. The Archer Road Kiwanis Leadership & Scholarship Award was presented to Sayuri Cruz. The Ladies of the Rosary presented three awards to acknowledge the service and scholarship of our young ladies. Recipients were: Samira Bocanegra, who will be attending Fenwick High School, Cydney Martinez, who is going to Marist High school and Hedi Chacon who will be attending St. Laurence. The St. Joseph Holy Name Society also presented two awards to acknowledge service and academics. Recipient of the George Koran Service Award was Elias Cahue, who will be attending St. Laurence High School and receiving the Holy Name Award for Academics was Elvin Garcia who also will be attending St. Laurence High School. Best of Luck – As we say goodbye to our eighth graders and wish them the best in high school, we also say farewell to a staff member. We wish the best to our Kindergarten Teacher, Mrs. Kathy Delmagori who has decided to retire. We thank Kathy for her many years of service to the children and families of St. Joseph School. May you enjoy your retirement, and remember, we can always use a substitute teacher, God Bless. Registration – Our open enrollment continues. There is financial assistance available through the Caritas Program and our Pastor’s Scholarship. We are particularly interested in enrolling children in our middle grades but have room in all grades..
