Date I?m in the middle of a two-week tour as visiting chaplain with law enforcement personnel and law enforcement trainees. It is a humbling privilege to serve in this capacity and to ?care for the souls? of those who are preparing or who presently are putting their lives on the line daily to protect and defend the freedoms that we enjoy in this great land. This evening, however, my soul was cared for by the people to whom I have been given the opportunity to minister. I attended and participated in a time of music, scripture and prayer led entirely by these young people. The singing was spirited yet theologically rich, the scripture passages poignant and powerful and the times of prayer genuinely heartfelt. I felt as John Wesley did in describing his experience at a meeting in Aldersgate on May 24, 1738 when he wrote that his heart had been ?strangely warmed.? By that Wesley meant that he experienced a wonderful, meaningful spiritual moment that he simply was not expecting. Likewise, I went to this time of worship this evening simply grateful that I did not have to lead. Nevertheless, I have to say that I did not expect such a spiritually significant gift from these law enforcement trainees. This is a difficult time to serve in law enforcement. The last 18 to 24 months have seen law enforcement personnel all over this country subject to vitriol and rancor that, I?m confident, none of us would tolerate in our professions. So tonight, as my heart has been strangely warmed, it?s also filled with gratitude ? gratitude for those who make it possible for me to sleep easier at night. More importantly, my heart is grateful for so many law enforcement personnel of deep faith and strong spiritual commitment who inspire and encourage me in my life of faith. Finally, I have a simple request. In 1962 President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week. If you?re able, would you attend a Peace Officers' Memorial Remembrance? We will be hosting one at the Dublin Justice Center on Commerce Parkway at 11:00AM on Friday, May 13. If you?re unable to attend a remembrance, I simply request that you intentionally take the opportunity to thank law enforcement officers for the service they render to all of us. They, and you, will be blessed. May 2016 Shar ing OUR Fait h New Hope's Monthly Newsletter Rev. Steve Norden, Senior Pastor nor den@NewHopeWor ship.com ? 614.766.5445 ? I?m in the middle of a two-week tour as visi ting chaplain w ith law enfor cement per sonnel and law enfor cement tr ainees. I t is a humbling pr ivi lege to ser ve in this capaci ty and to ?care for the souls? of those who are prepar ing or who presently are putting their l ives on the l ine dai ly to protect and defend the fr eedoms that we enjoy in this great land.

This evening, however , my soul was cared for by the people to whom I have been given the oppor tuni ty to minister. I attended and par ticipated in a time of music, scr ipture and prayer led enti r ely by these young people. The singing was spir i ted yet theological ly r ich, the scr ipture passages poignant and power ful and the times of prayer genuinely hear tfelt. I felt as John Wesley did in descr ibing his exper ience at a meeting in Alder sgate on May 24, 1738 when he w rote that his hear t had been ?str angely warmed.? FINANCIAL UPDATELee Ver m eer , Chai r of the Deaconslkver meer @gmail.com ? 614.766.5445

The Deacons want to provide you w ith information r egarding your church budget so ever yone can have a better understanding of the f inancial picture that has been presented in the bulletin on a weekly basis. I f you have been fol low ing the giving information as presented you w i l l have noted that we are r unning behind in our giving as compared to budget and also as compared to expenses. This is causing us to tr ansfer money from our cash reser ves, which is a matter of concern to the consistor y, as i t should be to al l of us.

When we completed our budget for this year we were aware that i t was an aggressive budget compared to previous years. With the grow th in our program offer ings and wanting to grow even more in involving the church in the community, the consistor y bel ieved i t was a budget we could and should suppor t. I t was presented to the congregation and approved at our congregational meeting last December. Some highl ights include:

- The staff budget was increased by $105,000 (or 27%) due to an $80,000 er ror in the 2015 budget. The actual staff budget increase was $25,000 (5%). This included increased hours for some par t-time posi tions; most ful l-time posi tions r eceived a basic cost of l iving increase.

- The faci l i ty budget was increased by $36,000 (10%) to r eplace fai l ing air conditioning uni ts, at a cost of $45,000. Additionally, the sanctuar y budget was increased by $20,000 (360%) to cover a number of necessar y one-time improvements, including a new projector and screen, painting, upholster y r epair , and sound panels.

- The program ministr y budgets (Chi ldren's Ministr y, Youth Ministr y, Adult Ministr y, and Music Ministr y) were increased by $14,000 (25%) to accommodate grow th in our program offer ings.

- The benevolence budget, or New Hope's ti the to suppor t God's work in the community and beyond, was increased by $31,000 (37%). This budget is based on our estimated giving throughout the year , r epresenting 10% of our giving budget. These benevolence dollar s suppor t local ministr ies such as the Dublin Food Pantr y and Habitat for Humanity, national ministr ies such as Cru (Campus Crusade for Chr ist), and seven Reformed Church in Amer ica missionar y par tner s around the wor ld.

- Dur ing some months, our expense budget exceeds our income budget. This is because income is spread equally throughout the year , but expenses are budgeted when they are expected to occur. The annual budget is balanced.

Because our giving has been under budget, we have also done al l we can to keep our expenses under budget as well . However , as noted in the f inancial r epor t below , our expenses have exceeded our income for several months. Whi le we do al l we can to be good stewards of the f inancial gi f ts entr usted to New Hope, cer tain expenses are necessar y simply to operate our bui lding and offer worship ser vices and other programs for our congregation's spir i tual grow th.

This is a lot of information to absorb, but we want al l of you to have a complete understanding of where your giving dollar s go. The mission of New Hope Church as has been continuously stated is to Reach People for Chr i st , Root People i n Chr i st , and Release People to Ser ve Chr i st . In order for us to fulf i l l this mission we need your ful l suppor t. We ask that you prayer ful ly consider increasing your giving dollar s on a monthly basis so we can fulf i l l our mission for our members and in our community.
