Mis hermanos y hermanas, Ya casi lo logramos. El final del encierro está ahora en el horizonte. Mientras los gobiernos del estado y del condado de California comienzan a hablar de reducir las restricciones y reabrir varios sectores.
¿Cómo será? ¿Cuánta gente se permitirá en una iglesia a la vez? ¿Qué forma tendrán las celebraciones sacramentales? ¿Qué pasará con los grupos y ministerios, cómo funcionarán en el futuro? Estas y otras preguntas similares están en discusión. La Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles planea comenzar a reabrir a partir del 15 de mayo. Así que estoy esperanzado y feliz. Mientras tanto, los extraño a todos, a nuestros maravillosos feligreses. Este período de aislamiento social me ha enseñado cuánto he aprendido a amar a los feligreses de esta parroquia. Cada vez que veo a un feligrés caminando por los campos de la iglesia me siento tan feliz. Anhelo un cálido abrazo o un saludo de mano como antes. Pero entonces, la nueva realidad me toca. Sin embargo, como dijo el místico Juliana de Norwich "Todo irá bien, y todo irá bien y todas las cosas estarán bien". ¡Yo le creo! Debo decir que ahora tengo una nueva apreciación del asombroso amor de Dios por nosotros. Aprecio todo lo que ha hecho por nosotros en Cristo Jesús - el regalo de su Hijo Amado, el increíble amor que compartimos en él, las hermosas celebraciones, la alimentación de nuestras almas y la esperanza de la vida eterna. ¡Qué Padre tan amoroso! Cuando regresemos, acordemos NUNCA volver a dar por ciertas estas cosas. De hecho, es extraño cómo la muerte, el peligro, la catástrofe y la crisis nos ayudan a apreciar la vida, la seguridad, la bendición y un tiempo de paz y armonía. Así que este período de parada del Coronavirus y sus consecuencias deberían más bien fortalecer nuestra fe. Este período debería darnos una nueva perspectiva espiritual. La vida es un regalo, la buena salud es maravillosa, la libertad es preciosa y la vida eterna a través de Cristo no tiene precio. Todas estas bendiciones son de Dios. Y dada nuestra vulnerabilidad durante esta pandemia, ahora podemos decir claramente que "nuestra auxilio esta en el nombre del Señor, que hizo el cielo y la tierra" (Sal 124:8). Así que, hermanos y hermanas, sigamos siendo fieles, prudentes, agradecidos y cariñosos. Y que Dios nos bendiga, nos guarde de todo mal y nos lleve a la vida eterna. Amén.
My Brothers and Sisters, We are almost there. The end of the shutdown is now on the horizon. As the State and County governments of California begin the talk of loosening restrictions and reopening various sectors, the Archdiocese is also busy planning post-pandemic church life. What will it look like? How many people will be allowed in a church at a time? What format will the sacramental celebrations take? What about groups and ministries, how will they operate going forward? These and similar questions are being hashed out. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles plans to begin reopening from May 15th. So I am hopeful and happy. In the meantime, I miss you all - our wonderful parishioners. This whole period of social isolation has taught me how much I have grown to love the parishioners of this parish. Every time I see a parishioner walking around the church grounds I feel so joyful. I kind of crave a warm embrace or a handshake like before. But then, the new reality hits me. However, as the mystic, Julian of Norwich said, “All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.” I believe her! I must say that I now have a new appreciation for God’s amazing love for us. I appreciate all that he has done for us in Christ Jesus – the gift of his Beloved Son, the amazing love we share in him, the beautiful celebrations, the feeding of our souls and the hope of eternal life. What a loving Father! When we get back, let us agree NEVER to take these things for granted again. Indeed, it’s strange how death, danger, catastrophe and crisis often help us to appreciate life, safety, blessing and a time of peace and harmony. So this period of Coronavirus shutdown and its ensuing consequences should rather strengthen our faith. This period should give us a new spiritual perspective. Life is a gift, good health is wonderful, freedom is precious and eternal life through Christ is priceless. All these blessings are from God. And given our vulnerability during this pandemic, we can now unequivocally say that, “Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth” (Ps 124:8). So brothers and sisters, let us continue to be faith-full, cautious, appreciative and loving. And may God bless us, keep us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. Amen.

VOCACIÓN Los católicos en los Estados Unidos pasan mucho tiempo hablando de “vocación” y la manera en que cada uno de nosotros discierne nuestra vocación en la vida. Sin embargo, en la carta apostólica de hoy, Pedro nos da la “piedra angular” de nuestra vocación, lo primero y principal en el llamado de cada uno de nosotros a raíz de nuestro Bautismo. Él describe nuestra vocación como “estirpe elegida, sacerdocio real, nación consagrada a Dios, pueblo de su propiedad para que proclamen las obras maravillosas de aquél [Cristo] quien nos llamó de las tinieblas a su luz admirable” (1 Pedro 2:9). Todos nosotros, sin importar la senda por la cual nuestra vocación de vida nos lleve, hemos sido elegidos por Dios, hechos santos, y ungidos como sacerdotes en el alto sacerdocio de Cristo por nuestro Bautismo. Todo esto, para que podamos anunciar las maravillas de Cristo. VOCATION Roman Catholics in the United States spend a good deal of time speaking of “vocation” and the manner in which each of us discerns our vocation for life. In today’s apostolic letter, however, Peter gives us the “cornerstone” of our vocation, the description of what each of us is called to first and foremost by our baptism. He describes our vocation as “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of [God’s] own, so that you may announce the praises” of Christ, who called us out of darkness into light (1 Peter 2:9). All of us, no matter what path our life’s vocation may take us down, have been chosen by God, made holy, and anointed as priests in the high priesthood of Christ through baptism. All of this, so that we may announce the praises of Christ. Vocation is given for proclamation at home, in the workplace—wherever life takes us—in service, in word, and in sacrament. Copyright © J. no better inheritance for a son or daughter than faith and hope in the
promises of Jesus Christ. Bless the mothers whose children are far away this day. Encourage them in
their absence. If distance causes sadness, bring hearts together for the
love of Jesus Christ.
