Parish Picnic
“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” Ps 133:1
My day began with a Mass in which I prayed for the fallen soldiers during the consecration. Then I went to Big 5 and bought myself a knee brace because I wanted to play as many games as my body could carry. Well, I quickly realized that I couldn’t keep up with the young people. In the end, limped back to the rectory in pain! Lol! But it was a happy limp and the pain was well worth it because it was such a beautiful and joyful day. The picnic was a huge success. Parishioners came out in their numbers (over 400 participants) to enjoy one another’s company. The day was sunny and beautiful. The food was good. The music was great. The mingling was wonderful and there were plenty of games for everybody. It was altogether such a joyful occasion. “This is really good for our parish”, was a sentiment I heard from many people. Indeed, it was a day made by the Lord; and we rejoiced in it and were glad (Ps 118:24).
“Thank Y’all!” I wish to thank the members of the Pastoral Council for organizing our first parish picnic. You did an amazing job! Kudos to you for putting it together! I am thankful to the Knights of Columbus for providing and preparing some hotdogs. Very much appreciated! I thank everyone who brought extra food and drink. Because of your generosity we had enough to eat and drink. I want to thank Jovenes Para Cristo for preparing for the games and the members of the Youth Ministry for starting the games and keeping them going. I am truly grateful to the Tune Bandits, Mike Hester and his wife for serenading us with great music. At the end of the day, some Council members and Jovenes Para Cristo remained behind and cleaned up the place. Thank you for all your sacrifices. I cannot end without thanking those who contributed generously toward my trip to Nigeria. That was a pleasant surprise! May God bless you for your generosity. Your active participation made all the difference. Without you the picnic wouldn’t have been successful. Many of you asked me if we could have this more than once a year. And my answer is, “yes.” We have the Feast of the Sacred Heart coming up on July 14. Save the date. It will be a day of great joy, worship and celebrations. Like the picnic, let us join together to make it a memorable day.
Picnic Parroquial

YOUTH MINISTRY MINISTERIO JUVENIL [email protected]
ALTAR SERVER TRAINING Sacred Heart Church is inviting all children of our parish who have made their first communion to come to a four-day ALTAR SERVER TRAINING Summer Session to be held the week of Monday June 17, through Thursday June 20, from 10:00am to 12pm in the church. You must complete all four sessions of the program. Come, share your time and talent with our faith community in the weekend liturgical celebrations. Applications for this ministry may be obtained at the parish office, school office, religious education office, or at the information center in the Friendship Corner after the Sunday morning masses. For further information contact: Sandie Dominguez at 805 525-0010.
This past weekend my family and I went to Fresno to celebrate my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. While we were there, we also celebrate my aunt and uncles 28th wedding anniversary and for Mary Beth and I we celebrated 6 years all on the same weekend. I have two close friends of mine who are about to get married so I have been thinking a lot lately about marriage. It was a blessing to see marriages in these three phases and now looking to my friends who are about to begin this lifelong journey there is one thing that I see very clearly in my life, if God is at the center of your marriage it will thrive. Now this is not to say that people who don’t believe in God or don’t have God at the center of their marriage won’t have a happy marriage, but their marriage will not thrive the same way as those who are married with God in the center of that marriage. For a lot of people marriage is a fun day with a piece of paper that is signed to bind them together and cost a lot of money to be abolished by a divorce but for us as Catholics it is a covenant. When we get married, we are not just making a promise to each other, but we are also making that promise to God putting him at the center of our marriage. A Catholic marriage is like a triangle with the groom on one low point and the bride on the other with God at the top, the closer the couple is to God, the closer they are to each other. This is something that I constantly remind our teens about especially those in relationships that are getting serious. When you are ready for marriage take the time to go through the process of a church wedding because it makes a huge difference and when its time, enter fully into your covenant with God. Marriage is work but so is our relationship with God, but all important things in life are worth working for.

DID YOU KNOW? What constitutes a concern worth reporting?
Parents have a responsibility to report concerns they have about another person’s behaviors or actions that could put their children — or any children — at risk. These concerns are anything that makes the parent uneasy or uncomfortable, or anything that a child reports made them feel uneasy or uncomfortable. Some examples of seemingly little things that can be worth reporting include: A teacher covering her glass classroom door with artwork, eliminating the ability to see into the classroom from the hall; a youth ministry icebreaker activity, where teens have to pass a mint candy from person to person using only toothpicks in their mouth, despite the discomfort
of some participants. For a copy of the VIRTUS® article “What is a ‘Concern’ that I Should Communicate?” visit http://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protecting/Pages/VIRTUS-Current-Online-Articles.aspx.
What is a ‘Concern’ that I Should Communicate?”
