The 2022 Most Valuable Student Scholarship contest is now officially underway! The online portal is open for high school students to apply. Any current high school senior is eligible to apply. Please share this website link with any high school seniors you know are planning to attend college: enf.elks.org/mvs
The Elks National Foundation (ENF) awards 500 four-year scholarships based on academics, leadership, and financial need. National awards range from $1,000 per year to $12,500 per year. The application deadline is November 15, 2021. The national awards will be announced in April 2022.
Each Lodge is a part of this contest as well, with an MVS Coordinator and Committee Judges. Our ENF Scholarship Committee is set for 2021-2022, and I could not be more excited, as they are a diverse group of Elks who will represent our lodge well: Belinda Cytlak, Wayne Dennis, Mary Harshman, J'Taevius Rodgers, and Matt Meinke. Beginning in mid-November and December, they will be judging online MVS applications, and become part of the scores given by applicants' guidance counselors and teachers.
We need your help! This summer and early fall is a time of spreading the word. There are brochures at the main entrance to the Lodge. Grab one and give it to a high school senior you know. There are social media posts on Facebook, which you can share with all your friends or for-ward to a potential applicant. I have also been in contact with all the high school guidance counselors to spread the word. Here's to an exciting MVS year!

If you get a non-heart queen or a joker and the jackpot is low, you will receive 10% for a queen and 15% for a joker or $100, whichever is greater.
Tuesday Night Music is Back! Beginning September 7, Tuesday Night Music is back with J.D. Owen. It will be monthly on the first and third Tuesday, 7:15 to 9:15. We need your support for this to continue. Attendance and financial support are what is needed. To provide this for all members, we take donations and have 50/50 raffles. We do not get funds from the Lodge and we do not charge an admission fee, but musi-cians want to be paid. Our only funding comes from you. When you see us asking for donations please give and buy 50/50 tickets. We look forward to continuing to do this, with your help. See you in September!
Thanks, Sandy Ellsworth
Maumee Elks Donate $$$ to Local Food Pantry Maumee-Bowling Green Elks Lodge No. 1850 used a $2,500 ENF Gratitude Grant for COVID relief and fighting hunger and food insecurity in NW Ohio. The money was given by SeaGate Food Bank who supplies Under One Roof Food Pantry in Maumee, Ohio and SeaGate Food Bank. Under One Roof Food Pantry is run by a volunteer staff, and an advi-sory board oversee the pantry, with board representatives from partner-ing agencies, which include Calvary Church; Cass Road Baptist Church; First Church of Christ, Scientist; Faith Community United Church of Christ; First Presbyterian Church; St. Joseph’s Catholic Church; the St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The food pantry is located at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Maumee, at 310 Elizabeth St. The pantry serves almost 200 individuals every month, with nonperishable items donat-ed from various organizations, including churches, individuals, and Seagate Food Bank, with perishable items coming from the Food Bank and some of the fresh vegetables com-ing from the church’s garden. Clients receive food and other personal hygiene items which are distributed based on income, with a protocol that follows federal government guidelines. Those in need are instructed to call the center and an application is made over the phone, after which appointments are set for individuals to come get their food and other items. Pictured left to right: Ron Finn, from Under One Roof Food Pantry Advisory Board/St. Vincent de Paul Society; Sherry Jaquay, Maumee-BG Elks Treasurer and Charity Chairperson; and Mark Krebs from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (Under One Roof Partner Organization) and Maumee-BG Elk member.

Hello Fellow Elks, Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the summer, it is going by fast. The
leaves will be falling and football will be here before you know it. It’s always a good time watching the games with friends at the lodge.
I hope you came and enjoyed the Maumee Street Fair. We had a car show in half of our parking lot, keeping the other half open for our members. They had a nice turn out and some beautiful cars. It was a beautiful day for the show and the street fair, weather was perfect.
In Lodge news we had a visit from our District Deputy, Jeff Jenson, at our regular meeting on 8/11. He addressed the lodge and discussed the Grand Exalted Ruler’s programs, and spoke to everyone there.
We have a new 5 yr Trustee, Craig Corson. Please welcome him into his new posi-tion.
Keep an eye on the bulletin as the fall arrives for upcoming events. Dartball will be starting soon, followed by corn hole. Tuesday night entertainment is starting back up, watch for that.
In closing, stay healthy and enjoy the remainder of the summer. Fraternally Yours
Larry “Bubba” Stadler

Hello All, The total contributions for the Elks,
cash and miles traveled for the year from 4-1-20 to 3-31-21 for the State of Ohio is $6,011,999.54. The total for the National is $208,880,237.56. Although it was down from the previous year, I feel this was a tremendous accomplishment for us all.
On somewhat the same note, we have applied for and were approved for 3 grants this year: The Gratitude, Beacon and Spotlight for a total of $8,000 which we intend to donate to various food banks. Our first donation was made to “Under One Roof” which is part of St. Joseph’s Church and St. Vincent de Paul. They distribute food to needy people in our area. The other 2 donations will be made to 2 veterans’ group. One being “Barry’s Landing,” the shelter that gives housing to home-less veterans provided they are drug free. We have partnered with them for several years now and the veterans so much appreciate what we do for them. If possible, Sherry Jaquay, our Charity Chairperson, will again gather members to provide them with gift bags with needed sundries and supplies. Last year, due to Covid, they were only accepting cash donations. The other veterans’ group we will be helping again is the “Chaplains Pantry” which provides catering services and both non-perish-able and perishable food items. We must be in compliance with Grand Lodge to receive these grants. The Gratitude Grant especially is dependent on our ENF donations, which many of us con-tribute to. Thank you all who have!
As fall approaches, our efforts will once again return to membership, retaining and gaining new members while getting ready for next year’s dues campaign.
Hope to see you at the Lodge, Kathy
Ask a friend to join today! Membership applications are now available at the main door by the visitor log. Or ask a bartender for one. Fill it out, give it to Lodge Secretary Kathy, along with a $10 application fee.

Point of Sale System Update
Our Lodge will be receiving a much needed new Point of Sale System to replace our outdated current equipment. This change should be coming within the next month or so. Along with this equipment change are a couple of other items of interest. First, we will be able to accept American Express cards again. Second, there will no longer be the $10.00 minimum to use your card. And lastly, when you use your credit card, there will be a 4% convenience fee charged to the customer. Doing this should save the Lodge approximately $7,000 per year. If this plan does not work for us, the Trustees can revisit this issue at a later date.
WI-FI ACCESS
Your Lodge has FREE wi-fi access available to all members. Just scan for “Maumee Elks” and connect. The password is
posted in the display case with the newsletter.
