WATERWOOD GOVERNING
DOCUMENTS- NOTICE
Article by Earl McVay
Members of WIA will be receiving a packet in mid-
March, 2017 containing a comprehensive explanation
of an amendment procedure for the governing
documents of Waterwood. The packet will contain a
ballot asking for members’ vote on the issue. The
amendment procedure is needed to modernize these
governing documents. Please review the packet
thoroughly and vote.
A Special Meeting of the Members of WIA will be held
at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, April 29, 2017 in the new
Waterwood Park Pavilion to report the result of the
election. WIA’s annual picnic, the Spring Fling, will
follow soon after this Special Meeting is closed.
Waterwood Park Update
Article by Tom Readal
Although we have lost over three weeks of construction
time since mid-December due to heavy rains we are
confident that the Park facilities will be ready to host the
Spring Fling in late-April.
The framing of the pavilion and restroom/storage
building is complete and electrical, plumbing, roofing,
and painting work are underway. The pool coping and
tile work are nearly complete leaving
plastering, equipment placement, and miscellaneous
minor items to be completed. Half of the concrete pool
deck has been poured and the posts that will support the
shade structures over the children’s pool and part of the
pool deck have been erected. The concrete parking lot is
also complete. Bids have been obtained for the "wrought
iron" pool fencing. The contract for supply and
installation of the playground equipment has been
awarded with installation scheduled for March.
Waterwood Community Park is looking very good,
indeed. We have heard many positive comments about
the project. We are looking forward to good times for
Waterwood property owners and their guests this
summer at the park.

Your Name in Waterwood
History Article by Tom Readal
Here is a chance to put your own unique mark on
Waterwood’s history by sponsoring one of the Park’s
amenities. This is a great chance for individuals and
groups such as the Waterwood Women’s League or one
of the Golf Associations to show their support for the
Waterwood Improvement Association’s (WIA)
community improvement efforts.
We are offering the sponsorship of Park benches and
picnic tables. In addition we will be landscaping with
some fairly large trees. Our committee would like to
offer members of the Waterwood community the
opportunity to sponsor one of these items by making an
appropriate donation of $100 for a picnic table, $400 for
a permanent park bench, $100 for a crepe myrtle and
$200 for an oak tree. The donor would be recognized
with a plaque placed on the item they sponsor or near the
landscape planting.
Please call Tom Readal at 936 891 5024 by March 21st if
you would like to be a part of Waterwood history.

Blood Drive vv
By Janas Goldsmith
Our blood drive will be on Wednesday, March 15, 2017,
from 2:00-6:30pm, at the WIA office.
Please drink plenty of water, eat a nice lunch and don’t
forget your identification. Please take an hour out of
your day to donate to save a life or add years to some
unknown person that needs our help. The rewards are
great and the great feeling is awesome! We need all
who can donate.
ACB Approval By Debbie Nicholson
Spring has begun! Isn't it lovely here on the lake?
Everything is coming alive, looking beautiful as it
changes from winter's brown to gorgeous greens. This
also brings out the change in us. The warmer weather
allows us to get outside and begin the uplifts we spotted
during winter. We all enjoy giving our place a facelift
but please remember any structural, paint or building
projects etc need to have a small projects application
APPROVED by ACB first.
If in doubt or questions please read through the
covenants and deed restrictions found online.
WATERWOOD WOMEN’S
LEAGUE
By Trista Byrd
The February meeting of the Waterwood Women's
League was held on Feb 8th at Joe's Italian Grill in
Livingston. We had our meeting and a great lunch.
After lunch we had a presentation by Jane Presley, Pat
Willborn, Linda Passmore and Trista Byrd regarding the
trip that was taken to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands
last October. There was a video and display of the lovely
things that could be purchased there. It was very
informative and interesting. It would be a great trip for
anyone to take. Contact Teresa Brown, if you have a
group interested in going. She can set you up!
Our March meeting will be held on March 15th at 10:00
am. We will visit the Azalea Trails in
Nacogdoches. We will have our meeting and then have
lunch at Clearspring Cafe after the tour. There are 25
miles and 3 beautifully manicured trails. This is a
walking and driving tour so bring comfortable shoes.

on that day would also be good. We would meet at the
Real Estate Office in Waterwood at 8:30 am for all those
who want to travel together and go from there.
Otherwise we will meet you there at 200 E. Main St.

Local Gardening Events By Maryann Readal
It is Springtime and nearly everyone feels the urge to
spruce up their yard, patio, porch or doorstep. In March,
opportunities abound in Huntsville to accommodate
“Spring Fever”. For all levels of gardener, the Walker
County Master Gardener hosts their Spring Plant Sale on
Saturday, March 11 at the Walker County Extension
Office at 102 Tam Road. Vegetables, fruit trees, shrubs,
landscape trees, annuals, perennials, native plants, seeds,
you name it, will be for sale at very reasonable prices on
this day. Get ideas for your yard by walking through the
creative and beautiful gardens at the Center. You may be
inspired to take home a lovely plant or two to add
sparkle in your landscape.
On Saturday, March 25, the Texas Thyme Unit of the
Herb Society of America hosts its annual Herb Festival
at the Wynne Home from 8:00-2:00, 1428 Eleventh
Street, Huntsville. Herbs galore are the highlight of the
day, most grown by the members of the group. Unique
perennials and pollinator plants will be for sale. There
will also be herbal, kitchen and garden vendors on hand
to entice you with their wares, including one very
talented young artist who has discovered the
blacksmith’s art to fashion very unique items. Don’t
miss the Huntsville High School Swingin’ Stingers Jazz
Band who will entertain festival goers with their toe-
tapping music. Speakers will encourage you to use more
herbs in your cooking and in your landscape. Bring the
kids and grandkids because there will be craft activities
to entertain them. The beautifully restored Wynne
Home and its Art Gallery will be open for touring. All is
free! Come and enjoy the day.
So many plants to choose from at the Herb Festival at
the Wynne Home on March 25.

Waterwood Christmas
trees
By Sandy Singletary
Plans are in the works to relight Waterwood Parkway
with Christmas trees this next holiday season. For those
of you who have lived in Waterwood for many years,
you remember how beautiful the Parkway looked with
the lighted Christmas trees all down the Parkway.
We are trying to figure out how many trees we will need
to make, and have heard from several residents who
would like to donate their trees back to WIA. If you
have one of the old Christmas trees and no longer use it,
or want to donate it, please contact the office (936-891-
7710) by March 31 and let Lisa know that you have a
tree. We will be happy to come by and pick it up.
