You can position your console horizontally or vertically, whichever you prefer. However, if youchange your consoles orientation, make sure it is turned off with no disc in the tray. Howeveryou position your console, make sure to not block any ventilation openings or the IR receiver.

POSITION YOUR XBOX

Prevent the Console fromFalling

If the Xbox 360 console falls and hits

someone, especially a small child, itcould cause serious injury. To reduce therisk of such injuries and damage to theXbox 360 console, set up the consoleaccording to these instructions. Place theconsole on a surface that:

Is at and level.

Is stable and not likely to tip over.

Allows all feet of the console to be incontact with the surface.

Is not likely to allow the console toslip or slide off.

Is clean and free of dust and debris. If the surface or console feet become

dirty or dusty, clean them with a drycloth. If the console is positionedvertically, put it on a surface where it isnot likely to fall if it tips over.

Arrange all cables and cords so thatpeople and pets are not likely to tripover or accidentally pull on them as theymove around or walk through the area.

When the console is not in use, you mayneed to disconnect all cables and cordsfrom the front and rear of the console to

keep them out of the reach of childrenand pets. Do not allow children to playwith cables and cords.

Prevent the Console fromOverheating

Do not block any ventilation openings onthe console or power supply. Do not placethe console or power supply on a carpet,bed, sofa, or other soft surface that mayblock ventilation openings. Do not placethe console or power supply in a connedspace, such as a bookcase, rack, or stereo

cabinet, unless the space is well ventilated.Dont stack any items, including other AVequipment, on top of the console.

Do not place the console or power supplynear any heat sources, such as radiators,heat registers, stoves, or ampliers.

Avoid Smoke and Dust Do not use the console in smoky or dusty

locations. Smoke and dust can damagethe console, particularly the disc drives.

CONNECT TO YOUR TV

Connect your composite AV cable to your TV.

Connect the AV CableTo connect to your TV:

1 Connect the composite AV cableconnector to the AV port on the console.

2 Connect the yellow-banded compositeconnector on the cable to the yellowvideo input on your TV.

3 Connect the solid color white and red (leftand right) audio connectors on the cable tothe white and red audio inputs on your TV.

For mono audio, connect either the whiteor red audio connector to the single audioinput.

4 Select the appropriate video input foryour TV. Common names for video inputinclude Input Select, Input, AUX, Line In,Line, In, Source, and EXT.

Other InputYou can also connect to additional TV inputtypes such as component, HDMI, VGA, ordigital audio (cables sold separately). Formore information, visit www.xbox.com/setup.

IMPORTANTStationary images in video games can burninto some TV screens, creating a permanentshadow. Consult your TV owners manual ormanufacturer before playing games.

Always connect the power cords accordingto the following instructions.

To connect the power cords:

1 Fully insert the power supply cord into theXbox 360 console.

2 Plug the AC power cord into the powersupply until it stops.

3 Plug the other end of the AC power cordinto the wall outlet. Connecting to apower strip or extension cord is notrecommended. The power supply light

will glow amber when properly connectedto power and the console is turned off.

Electrical Safety

As with many other electrical devices,

failure to take the following precautionscan result in serious injury or death fromelectric shock or re or damage to theXbox 360 console.

Select an appropriate power source foryour Xbox 360 console:

Use only the power supply unit and ACpower cord that came with yourconsole or that you received from anauthorized repair center or XboxCustomer Support. If you are not sure ifyou have the correct power supply unit,

compare the model number on thepower supply unit with the modelnumber specied on your console. Ifyou need a replacement power supplyunit or AC power cord, you can ndXbox Customer Support contactinformation at www.xbox.com/support.

Conrm that your electrical outletprovides the type of power indicatedon the power supply unit (in terms ofvoltage [V] and frequency [Hz]). If youare not sure of the type of powersupplied to your home, consult a

qualied electrician. Do not use non-standard power

sources, such as generators or inverters,even if the voltage and frequencyappear acceptable. Use only AC powerprovided by a standard wall outlet.

Do not overload your wall outlet,extension cord, power strip, or otherelectrical receptacle. Conrm thatthey are rated to handle the totalcurrent (in amps [A]) drawn by theXbox 360 console (indicated on thepower supply unit) and any otherdevices that are on the same circuit.

Do not connect any other devicesbetween the power supply unit and

the Xbox 360 console or between thepower cord and the power supply unit.

To avoid damaging the power cords andpower supply:

Protect the power cords from beingwalked on.

Protect cords from being pinched orsharply bent, particularly where theyconnect to the power outlet, thepower supply unit, and the console.

Do not jerk, knot, sharply bend, orotherwise abuse the power cords.

Do not expose the power cords tosources of heat.

Do not wrap power cords around thepower supply unit.

Keep children and pets away from thepower cords. Do not allow them tobite or chew on them.

When disconnecting the power cords,pull on the plugdo not pull on thecord.

Do not let the power supply unithang from either power cord.

Unplug your Xbox 360 console duringlightning storms or when unused forlong periods of time.

SET UP YOUR CONTROLLER

Your controller comes already wirelesslyconnected to your console, right out of the

box.

Insert BatteriesThe wireless controller uses either disposableAA or LR6 batteries (included) or the Xbox 360Play and Charge Kit (sold separately). If youplan to use disposable batteries, you shouldfamiliarize yourself with the DisposableBattery Safety section that follows.

To insert batteries:

1 Press the tab on the top of the AA batterypack and pull down to detach it from the

controller.2 Insert two new AA (LR6) batteries with their

positive (+) and negative () ends as shownon the underside of the battery pack. Forbest performance, AA rechargeablebatteries are not recommended.

3 Slide the AA battery pack back into placeon the controller and push it in to lock.

NOTETo avoid pinching your ngers wheninserting, push only on the at surface of thebattery compartment cover.

Improper use of batteries may result inbattery uid leakage, overheating, orexplosion. Risk of explosion if batteriesare replaced by an incorrect type. Useand replace only with correct size andtype of batteries. Released battery uid iscorrosive and may be toxic. It can causeskin and eye burns, and is harmful ifswallowed. To reduce the risk of injury:

Keep batteries out of reach of children. Do not heat, open, puncture, mutilate,or dispose of batteries in re.

Use only alkaline (not rechargeable)batteries, type AA for best performance.

Do not mix new and old batteries orbatteries of different types.

Do not allow metal objects to touchthe battery terminals on the device;they can become hot and cause burns.

Remove the batteries if they are wornout or before storing your controllerfor an extended period of time.

If a battery leaks, remove all batteries,taking care to keep the leaked uidfrom touching your skin or clothes. Ifuid from the battery comes intocontact with skin or clothes, ush skinwith water immediately. Before

inserting new batteries, thoroughlyclean the battery compartment with adamp paper towel, or follow thebattery manufacturersrecommendations for cleanup.

Dispose of batteries in accordancewith local and national disposalregulations (if any).

Remove Controller BatteriesAboard Aircraft

Before boarding any aircraft or packingthe wireless controller in luggage thatwill be checked, remove any batteriesfrom the wireless controller. Thewireless controller can transmit radiofrequency (RF) energy, much like acellular telephone, whenever batteriesare installed.

Turn Your Console and Controller OnTo turn your console and controller on,press and hold the Xbox Guide button onyour controller. To turn on just your

console, touch the console power buttonlightly.

Connect Additional ControllersTo connect additional wireless controllersto your console, or to connect yourcontroller to a different console, followthe steps below.

To connect a wireless controller to yourconsole:

1 Press and hold down the Xbox Guidebutton until the controller turns on.

2 Make sure the console is turned on. Ifnot, touch the console power buttonand allow the console to completelystart up. When the Xbox Dashboard orinserted disc runs, the console is ready.

3 Press the connect button on theconsole and wait for the console lightsto spin.

4 Press the connect button on thecontroller and wait for the controllerlights to spin.

After the lights on the controller andconsole spin and ash once, the controlleris connected.

Playing Games with Your ControllerFor information about how to use thecontroller with games, see your gameinstructions. When playing, yourcontrollers position is indicated by one offour lights around the Xbox Guide button,

and you can press the Xbox Guide buttonto show the Xbox Guide at any time.

SET UP YOUR HEADSETUse your Xbox 360 Headset to chat withfriends on Xbox LIVE.

Connect Your Headset to YourControllerTo connect your headset:

1 Turn down the volume. Plug the headsetconnector into the controller expansionport.

2 Put on your headset and adjust themicrophone position.

Use Your HeadsetTo chat and send voice messages, you needto be connected to Xbox LIVE.

To temporarily turn off voice, slide the muteswitch on the headset control. To adjust thelistening volume of the headset, move thevolume control left or right. For more

information about using your Xbox 360Headset with a particular game, see yourgame manual.

To prevent damage to your headset, avoidsitting or stepping on the headset, its cable,or the cable connector.

PLAY DISCSThe Xbox 360 console can play game discslicensed by Microsoft for the Xbox 360,

Region 4 DVD movie discs, and CD music/audio discs. An Xbox compatible disc hasone of these logos:

Touch the eject button lightly to open thedisc tray. If you hold your nger on the ejectbutton, the tray wont eject. NOTE

When the console is oriented vertically, make

sure the disc is held in place by the tabs onthe disc tray so that it doesnt fall out.

IMPORTANTTo avoid jamming the disc drive anddamaging discs or the console:

Remove discs before moving the consoleor tilting it between the horizontal andvertical positions.

Never use cracked discs. They can shatterinside the console and jam or breakinternal parts.

When the console is vertical, do not usediscs that are smaller than standard DVDsand CDs.

CHOOSE YOUR FAMILYS EXPERIENCE

Family Settings for Xbox 360 gives parents and caregivers the ability to provide age-appropriate entertainment through customized settings. You can apply Family Settings forgames, movies, and Xbox LIVE in the Xbox Dashboard. For information and instructions, visitwww.xbox.com/familysettings.

SET UP STORAGEWith the Xbox 360 Hard Drive (included), aUSB ash drive, or another device containing

a hard drive, you can save games and othermedia and sign in to Xbox LIVE. Your Xbox360 system comes with a hard drive attachedand ready to play.

Remove and Reattach Your Hard DriveIf you need to remove the hard drive, usethe following procedures for removal andreattachment.

To remove your hard drive:

1 Turn off your console.

2 Slide the hard drive cover release toremove the hard drive cover.

3 Pull the hard drive tab to remove the harddrive from the console.

IMPORTANTDo not remove or attach the hard drivewhen power is on, and avoid touching harddrive bay contacts and hard drive connectorcontacts with ngers or metal objects.

To attach your hard drive:

1 Turn off your console.

2 Insert the hard drive fully into its slot withthe tab outward.

3 Replace the hard drive cover.

Connect a USB Flash Drive or OtherStorage DeviceFor portable storage, connect a 1-GB orgreater capacity USB ash drive or otherdevice containing a hard drive (a portablemusic player, for instance). When you save agame or media, youll have the option tosave to that device after conguring it forXbox storage.

Transfer ContentIf you already have content on another harddrive, you can use a USB ash drive totransfer some content like proles and savedgames.

To fully transfer all licensed content, such asgames, visit www.xbox.com/support for moreinformation about the Xbox 360 Hard Drivetransfer kit.

NOTEYou cannot use original Xbox 360 memoryunits or hard drives with this version of theXbox 360 console.

SET UP YOUR HOME NETWORK

To play on Xbox LIVE and share media with aWindows PC, your Xbox 360 console shouldbe connected to a home network with high-speed Internet. If you dont currently have ahome network, visit www.xbox.com/supportto check out your options.

Your Xbox 360 has integrated wirelessnetworking built in, allowing a wireless

connection between your console and yournetwork. Xbox 360 supports 802.11b/g/nwireless networks. Or you can connect to anetwork with an Ethernet cable (soldseparately).

For other supported networking options,including Ethernet wired networks, visitwww.xbox.com/support.

To connect your console to a wirelessnetwork:

1 Congure your console and wirelessrouter (or other networking device).

2 From the Xbox Dashboard systemsettings, congure wireless networkingand follow the instructions on the screen.

3 Your console will detect and test yournetwork and proceed through networkconguration.

You can usually nd your wireless networksettings on the setup screens for yourwireless router. The device documentationshould have instructions for accessing thesescreens. For wireless networks set up withMicrosoft Windows Connect Nowtechnology, you can use a WCN USB ashdrive to quickly congure your Xbox 360console to connect to the network.

If you have trouble connecting, follow thesteps in Troubleshooting later in this manual.

SHARE MUSIC, PICTURES, AND VIDEOS

Use your Xbox 360 to play music, viewpictures, and watch video from otherdevices. Connect devices and other portableaudio players, digital cameras, and USB ashdrives. You can also share media to your

console from a Windows PC on the samehome network.

To stream music or view pictures, justcongure your device for USB output if yourdevice requires it, and connect it to yourconsole with a USB cable (sold separately).For media on USB ash drives, just connectthe drive to any console USB port directly.

Follow these steps to troubleshoot anydifculties you may have with the Xbox 360video game and entertainment system. If thesteps in this troubleshooting section dont solveyour problem, visit www.xbox.com/support. Donot take your Xbox 360 console or itsaccessories to your retailer for repair or service.

No PowerConrm that you have an appropriatepower source, and check all connectionsbetween the wall outlet and power supplyand the power supply and console. Thepower supply light should glow amberwhen the console is off and green when theconsole is on.

Try a different power outlet and bypass anypower strips. Try turning the console on usingthe console power button, the eject button,and a controller Xbox Guide button todetermine if a specic button is the problem.

No PictureConnect the appropriate AV cable. Turn on theTV. Select the video input for the TV (or otherconnected AV device, such as a VCR or DVDplayer) that displays the Xbox 360 game.

Common names for video input include InputSelect, AUX, Line In, Line, In, Input, Source, andEXT, depending on your TV or AV receivertype. For more information, see your TV or AVdevice manual. Dont connect both theincluded AV cable and an HDMI AV cable tothe console at the same time.

Try resetting your display settings. Remove anydisc from the disc tray and turn off yourconsole. Then press and hold the Xbox Guidebutton on player ones controller to turn theconsole back on. As it starts up, press and holdthe Y button while pulling the right trigger. Your

console will return to its default display settings.

No SoundCheck the AV connection. If youre usingdigital audio, make sure the receiver isturned on and the output in your consolesaudio settings is set correctly. Dont connectboth the included AV cable and the HDMIAV cable to the console at the same time. Ifyoure using an AV receiver or digital audio(S/PDIF), try connecting standard audiodirectly to your TV.

TROUBLESHOOT

Poor-Quality Sound

Check the AV connection (see Connect toYour TV and Audio System). Play DolbyDigital audio only on audio systems thatsupport Dolby Digital. Select the audio outputthat is supported by your system or TV: stereoor DolbySurround for stereo speakers, monofor monaural speakers. If sound is comingfrom only one speaker, check that all audiocables are connected correctly.

Game, Movie, or Music Doesnt StartPlay only supported discs (Xbox 360 games,audio CDs, and DVD movies). Clean the disc.

Insert the disc fully and close the disc tray. Tobypass the Xbox Dashboard and start discsautomatically, change the startup consolesystem setting.

Disc Doesnt EjectDisconnect your console from power andposition it horizontally. Insert a straightenedpaper clip into the round hole on the left sideof the console, near the front, between theventilation slats. The tray will eject slightly, andyou can pull the tray all the way out by hand.

Power Light FlashesThe console power button should glow solid

green while the console is on and ash whenyou press the eject button. If it ashesdifferently during operation, follow thesesteps:

Flashes red: The console is too hot andwill not play games until cooled down.Place the console in a well-ventilated areaaway from other heat sources andunblock all vents. Once it cools, theashing will stop and the console can beplayed. For more information, seePosition Your Xbox.

Solid red: Follow the instructions on thescreen to correct the problem.

Solid red, no on-screen instructions:Internal problem that requires service.Visit www.xbox.com/support to requestservice.

Wireless Controller Doesnt WorkPress the Xbox Guide button to turn on thewireless controller, then connect it to yourconsole (see Connect Additional Controllers).

If lights spin longer than 15 seconds whenconnecting:

Move the controller closer to the console.

Make sure the batteries are fresh.

Keep the console and controller at leastthree feet away from large metal objects,such as le cabinets and refrigerators.

Metallic decorations or stickers on theconsole or controller can interfere withwireless controller performance. Removedecorations and try connecting again.

Make sure the front of the console ispositioned in the direction of thecontroller and away from nearby walls.

Cordless phones (2.4 GHz), wireless LANs,wireless video transmitters, microwaveovens, some mobile/cell phones, andBluetooth headsets can interfere with theoperation of the controller. Turn these offor unplug them and retry connecting.

If nothing else works, turn off yourconsole, remove and reinsert the batteriesinto the controller, then reconnect thecontroller to the console.

Cant Connect to Xbox LIVE or HomeNetworkIf you cant connect to Xbox LIVE or your homenetwork, restart your network equipment.

To restart your network equipment:

1 Turn off your console and your networkequipment. If a network device, such as amodem or router, doesnt have a powerbutton, disconnect it from power.

2 Wait one minute.

3 Turn on each network device in sequencefrom the wall outlet. For most homenetworks, the sequence will be (1)modem, (2) router, (3) Xbox 360 console.Wait for each device to come online fullybefore turning on the next.

4 From the Xbox Dashboard, test your XboxLIVE connection.

Make sure your wireless network equipmentis within range, and potentially interferingdevices such as wireless phones are notnearby. Also, check that your specicnetwork settings are correctly entered in theXbox Dashboard system settings.

If you still cant connect to Xbox LIVE or yourhome network, visit www.xbox.com/supportfor more help.

Headset Doesnt WorkIf the headset isnt emitting any sound oryou are unable to transmit your voice:

Make sure the headset connector isplugged in securely.

Try adjusting the volume using thevolume control knob.

Make sure the mute switch isnt on.

Make sure that voice isnt turned off inthe Xbox Guide.

Check your game manual to determinewhether you need to push a button whilespeaking.

Accessory Doesnt Work

If an accessory is not supported by a specicgame, the accessory will not function.

Cant Save GameThe Xbox 360 storage device must haveenough free space to save the game. Deleteunwanted items from storage or attach anadditional USB ash drive or storage device(sold separately) for more space.

Hard Drive or USB Flash Drive NotListed as a Storage DeviceIf your hard drive is not listed as a storagedevice, try the following, starting with therst.

Make sure the hard drive is fully insertedinto the hard drive slot and the cover hasbeen replaced. Turn the console off, thenon again.

Turn the console off and remove the harddrive. Turn the console on and then offagain. Reinsert the hard drive, replace thehard drive cover, and turn the console onagain.

If available, try the hard drive on anotherconsole, or try another hard drive on yourconsole to pinpoint the problem.

NOTEDamaged hard drives might not show up inthe Xbox Guide and could harm your Xbox360 console. Hard drives that have beencrushed, immersed in liquids, or exposed tointense heat may be damaged beyond useand will not appear in your list of storagedevices.

USB storage devices have a capacity of 1-GBor greater and be congured for use withXbox 360. Some slower devices wont becongurable to work with Xbox 360.

CleaningIf you clean the Xbox 360 console:

Disconnect the console power supply fromelectrical power to prevent the consolefrom being turned on and off, or the disctray from being ejected, during cleaning.

Clean the outside of the Xbox 360 consoleonly. Make sure that no objects areinserted into ventilation openings.

Use a dry clothdo not use abrasive pads,detergents, scouring powders, solvents (forexample, alcohol, gasoline, paint thinner, orbenzene), or other liquid or aerosolcleaners.

Do not use compressed air.

Do not use DVD head cleaner devices.

Do not attempt to clean connectors.

Clean the console feet and the surface onwhich the Xbox 360 console rests with adry cloth.

To clean Xbox 360 game discs or audio CDs:

Hold discs by the edges; do not touch thedisc surface with your ngers.

Clean discs using a soft cloth, lightly

wiping from the center outward. Do not use solvents; they can damage the

disc. Do not use disc cleaning devices.

Operating EnvironmentOperating the Xbox 360 console in anenvironment where the external temperaturecan vary widely and quickly might damagethe console. When moved to a location with

a temperature difference of 20 degrees or

more from the previous location, allow theXbox 360 console to come to roomtemperature before turning it on.Operating temperature: 5 C to 35 C(41 F to 95 F)

Photosensitive SeizuresA very small percentage of people mayexperience a seizure when exposed tocertain visual images, including ashinglights or patterns that may appear invideo games. Even people who have nohistory of seizures or epilepsy may havean undiagnosed condition that cancause these photosensitive epilepticseizures while watching video games.

These seizures may have a variety ofsymptoms, including lightheadedness,altered vision, eye or face twitching,

jerking or shaking of arms or legs,disorientation, confusion, or momentaryloss of awareness. Seizures may alsocause loss of consciousness orconvulsions that can lead to injury fromfalling down or striking nearby objects.

Immediately stop playing and consult adoctor if you experience any of thesesymptoms. Para insertar las bateras:

4. Responsabilidad de Microsoft

(a) Una vez que Usted enve su Xbox 360 S o el

Accesorio a Microsoft, Microsoft har unainspeccin de la consola Xbox 360 S o delAccesorio.

(b) Si Microsoft determina que su Xbox 360 S oel Accesorio present mal funcionamientodurante el Periodo de Garanta enCondiciones Normales de Uso, entoncesMicrosoft podr reparar, reemplazar oreembolsar el precio de compra a Usted.Para la reparacin se podrn usar partesnuevas o usadas. El reemplazo podr sermediante una consola nueva o

(d) LA RESPONSABILIDAD DE MICROSOFT DEREPARAR, REEMPLAZAR O REEMBOLSAREL PRECIO DE COMPRA DE SU XBOX 360 S
