KEY STEPS

INDUSTRIES AND POWER PLANTS

INDUSTRIES AND POWER PLANTS

Switch over to PNG & Installation of OCEMS

New Emission Norms of Power Plants

Industries and Power Plants: Switch over to PNG & Installation of OCEMS

• To shift all industries to PNG by 30th September, 2018

Total Units – 1131

Number of units running on PNG/under process – 1018.

• To install Online Continuous Emission

Monitoring System (OCEMS) linked to a central server for 24 * 7 monitoring in all red-category industrial units by 30th June, 2018.

To install Online Continuous Emission Monitoring System (OCEMS) linked to a central server for 24 * 7 monitoring in all red-category industrial units

by 30th June, 2018.

Progress

Meeting New Emission Norms Thermal Power Plants

• Stringent norms. • To be met by December 2019 in Delhi and NCR. • To be met by December 2022 in rest of the country.

Early warning System

Brick-kilns

Early Warning System

Key Actions

An operational early warning system has been put in place.

A website has been developed to facilitate sharing all real time data of air pollutants and also air pollution forecast products.

1

2

* The early warning system will give forecasts for the next 2 days and outlook for 2 more days.

BRICK KILNS

Brick Kilns which have not converted to Zig-Zag technology will not operate from 30.06.2018.

In NCR, total 4247 Brick Kilns were operational in July 2017.

722 Brick Kilns in NCR converted to Zig-Zag technology.

State government to ensure that no brick kilns operate without converting to Zig-Zag technology.

NCAP • For 102 non attainment cities. • To bring PM 10 and PM 2.5 levels down in definite % terms

by 2024. • Time bound, national level strategy. • It will derive co benefits of initiatives under National Action

Plan on Climate Change and air pollution mitigation measures comprising of sectoral interventions.

• To have knowledge sharing and technology transfer.

NCAP

Sectoral Interventions Vehicular Emissions • BS VI fuel norms operational in Delhi from 1st April this year. • To expand in the entire country from 1st April 2020. • Vehicles to be BS VI compliant by 1st April, 2020. • National E-mobility Program launched in 2018- to take

steps to have more than 30% of electric vehicles. • FAME for early adoption and market creation of hybrid and

electric vehicles – already being implemented.

NCAP • National Biofuel Policy- To have 20% of ethanol

blending in petrol and biodiesel blending target of 5%.

• Promotion of 2G ethanol refineries through national scheme announced this year.

• This will consume agricultural stubble and urban waste as well.

• Further, production of ethanol is also being enhanced in a great way through molasses as well.

NCAP Industrial Emissions • Approved fuels to be used. • Sale and use of pet coke banned in Delhi and

NCR States. • Promotion of clean fuels(PNG)- city gas

distribution network being expanded. • Real time monitoring of emissions in highly

polluting industries. Waste Management • Several measures being taken. • Single use plastic to be banned by 2022.

National Action Plan on Climate Change

• Green India Mission • To create 2.5 to 3 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent of

additional tree and forest cover as carbon sink. • Forest cover has increased. • 40% of installed electricity generation capacity to be

from renewables. • India to reduce the Emissions Intensity of its GDP by

33 to 35 Per Cent by 2030 from 2005 level.

NCAP

• 175 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2022. • Smart Cities Mission – public transport and green

cities. • Swacch Bharat Mission-( Clean India Mission)

Household Air Pollution

• PMUY to provide access to clean cooking fuel to 80 Million households

• Started in 2016 • More than 50 million households have been

covered

National Environment Health Profile

• To be conducted in 20 cities. • To study the trends in air pollution and mortality/

morbidity. • To evaluate quantum of health manifestations

and identify gaps.

Challenges

• Enforcement of rules and regulations • Meeting the timelines under various

plans/schemes • Collaboration with regard to long range transport

of air pollutants.
