Rain has continued to interrupt play at the Range Croquet Club in Maleny.

Last Thursday, two games were under way when dark clouds loomed and heavy rain made fur-ther play impossible.

At the time, Vince Carbery was leading Ken Barker and John McCa-rthy 6 -3, and Neil Lovett, aided by his handicap, was ahead of Kath Smith 4 – 2. Sunday’s game did reach completion, although heavy rain caused some breaks in play, with Vince and Neil victors over John and Ken 26 – 14.

Our regular visitors from Little Mountain played on Friday, and Satur-day was coaching day as usual.

At the moment we are assembling teams for the Lochwood and Bray Shield pennant season in 2012 for association croquet, as well as a team for the golf croquet pennant.

For information, ring Vince Carbery (5494 2193) or Priscilla Vickers (5494 3555).

There isn’t a lot to report on this week as there were only 10 play-ers Tuesday and not enough for a competition Friday.

Tuesday’s winners with two wins plus 14 were Les Bennett with Ernie White lead in the first game and Gail Turner lead in the second. The Touchers went to Les Bennett, Gail Turner and Richard Groves.

The Jackpot of $26 wasn’t won when negative 6 was drawn from the barrel.

It was no surprise that not a single Sponsors’ Prize could be claimed Friday evening with so few Mem-bers present. Those to miss out were:- Jim Brown for Supa IGA now worth $100 this week, Mo Lawrence for Live Life Villages also worth $100 this week, Simon Moore for Top of the Range Meats and Vi Packer for Maung Thai Restaurant.

Thursday, the last semi-final in the Scott Fawkes Memorial Singles was played resulting in a win to Ian Hansen over Les Bennett by a single shot after a titanic battle. Les started the better of the two and it wasn’t until the thirteenth end that Hansen first took the lead. This was short lived as the scores were tied at 13 each, 15 each, 20 each and 23 each. Les took a single shot on the penultimate end to lead 24 shots to 23 but Hansen took two shots for victory on the final end in the battle royal. Hansen now meets Bob Wilson in the final.

This week kicked off with the Men’s Monthly Jackpot Pairs Monday followed by the usual Jackpot Pairs/Triples Tuesday.

There will be Social/Barefoot Bowls Fridayfollowed by the Members’ Draw for our Spon-sors’ Prizes. However, the Club will be closed Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and re-open Wednesday.

A reminder that your 2012 Sub-scriptions are due if you haven’t already paid.

Finally, I will take the opportunity to wish all our Members and Sponsors a happy Christmas and a prosper-ous New Year. Also many thanks to our Sponsors for your gener-ous, much-appreciated support throughout 2011.

Ian Hansen [Chairman.]

The mighty Lions Aussie Rules football club, based in Landsbor-ough, is gearing up for another exciting year in 2012.

Pre-season training has com-menced for many of the senior grades.

For the fi rst time the club will off er an under 18s side in the local AFL, with the under 16s keen to go one step further and bring home the fl ag in 2012....only points away from doing this in 2010 and 2011!

There is a seniors side for the over 18s who will be fi elding a side again after their successful re-emergence in 2011. Other grades include under 14s, 12s, 10s and under 8s.

A number of the local Lions play-ers from diff erent grades have been invited to attend the pre-

season training at the regional level – through the Suncoast Power Summer Training Program.

This is a great opportunity for these young players, some of whom are still in their fi rst year of AFL. The program gives the players the opportunity to im-prove their skills and stamina, being guided over the summer months by the coaching staff of the Suncoast Power, some of whom have played representative football at the state level.

There are a growing number of families and players from around Maleny getting involved with a number of parents car pooling to get players to and from training and games.

When training starts in earnest in the new year, for most grades it is held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

If you are keen to give it a go, get in contact with the GHAFC on 5435 2377 (ask for Matt).

Optional Pagan Ceremony Wishesfrom that Pagan, Phil Hands

Hello friends,

I wanted to send some sort of holiday greeting to my friends and col-leagues, but it is diffi cult in today’s world to know exactly what to say without off ending someone. So I met with my lawyer yesterday, and on advice I wish to say the following:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non addictive, gender neutral celebration of the summer solstice holiday, or winter depending on the hemisphere or, for that matter, planet of your choice, practiced with the most enjoyable traditions of religious per-suasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious / secular persuasions and / or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

I also wish you a fi scally successful, personally fulfi lling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted cal-endar year 2012, but not without due respect for the calendar of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make our country great (not to imply that Australia is necessarily greater than any other country) and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms:

This greeting is subject to clarifi cation or withdrawal. It is freely trans-ferable with no alteration to the original greeting.

It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her / him or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher.

The wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual applica-tion of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

Best Regards ( without prejudice )

In a late news fl ash there is concern that there will be no christmas visit by Santa this year.

It has been reported that during one of his recent practice fl ights that Santa Claus, also known as Kris Kringle, was travelling in the wrong direction in a designated fl ight path of a passenger plane fl ying over Centra Australia.

This sleigh accident scattered thousands of presents over the landscape, but the elves are very busy pick-ing them up and extra shifts are being worked at the North Pole to ensure that any broken presents are repaired in time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Klaus and the elves in the wake of this terrible and tragic ac-cident. Mrs. Klaus said, “We hope that he will be well enough to complete his christmas rounds as usual”

This time of year is a very dangerous time on our roads. Serious inci-dents can happen in a fraction of a section but have very serious long termed impact on families lives.

It is always important to take care on our roads, but at this time it is expecially important. This should be a time of happiness and family friendship - let us not cause our family undue worry. Have a happy christmas and come back safely next year.
