SAP R/3 Systems are client systems . The client concept enables the parallel operation, in onesystem, of several enterprises that are independent of each other in business terms. The componentsSAP Business Information arehouse !B " and SAP #no$led%e arehouse !# " are e&ceptionsto this' in these cases only one client is used. (urin% each user session you can only access the dataof the client selected durin% lo%on.

A client is, in or%ani)ational terms, an independent unit in the system. *ach client has its o$n dataenvironment and therefore its o$n master data and transaction data, assi%ned user master records andcharts of accounts, and specific +ustomi)in% parameters.

or a user to lo% on to the system, a master record must e&ist in the system for that user. To protectaccess, a pass$ord is re-uired for lo%on. The pass$ord is hidden as you type !you only seeasteris s".SAP R/3 Systems are available in several lan%ua%es. se the Language input field to select the lo%onlan%ua%e for each session.

0ultiple lo%ons are al$ays lo%%ed in the system be%innin% $ith SAP R/3 1.2. This is for security as$ell as licensin% reasons. A $arnin% messa%e appears if the same user attempts to lo% on t$ice ormore. This messa%e offers three options'

ou can place your o$n te&t on the initial screen in a number of $ays. or more information, see theSAP 4ote mentioned above. The 5ui6T !covered at the end of this chapter" offers a further option.
