  • My friends in Christ:

As we celebrate the Fifth Glorious Mystery of the Rosary on August 22, The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, I would like to share with you the following excerpts from the encyclical written by Pius XII in 1954 concerning Mary’s Coronation as Queen of Heaven.

Ad Caeli Reginam (On Proclaiming the Queenship of Mary)

With the certainty of faith we know that Jesus Christ is king in the full, literal, and absolute sense of the word; for He is true God and man. This does not, however, prevent Mary from sharing His royal prerogatives, though in a limited and analogous manner; for she was the Mother of Christ, and Christ is God; and she shared in the work of the divine Redeemer, in His struggles against enemies and in the triumph He won over them all. From this union with Christ the King she assuredly obtains so eminent a status that she stands high above all created things; and upon this same union with Christ is based that royal privilege enabling her to distribute the treasures of the kingdom of the divine Redeemer. And lastly, this same union with Christ is the fountain of the inexhaustible efficacy of her motherly intercession in the presence of the Son and of the Father. Without doubt, then, does our holy Virgin possess a dignity that far transcends all other creatures. In the eyes of her Son she takes precedence over everyone else. In order to help us understand the preeminence that the Mother of God enjoys over all creation, it would help to remember that from the first moment of her conception the holy Virgin was filled with such a plenitude of grace as to surpass the graces enhancing all the saints. Recall what our predecessor Pius IX, of blessed memory, wrote in his Bull Ineffabilis Deus (The Immaculate Conception): "More than all the angels and all the saints has God ineffable freely endowed Mary with the fullness of the heavenly gifts that abound in the divine treasury; and she, preserving herself ever immaculately clean from the slightest taint of sin, attained a fullness of innocence and holiness so great as to be unthinkable apart from God Himself, a fullness that no one other than God will ever possess." Spurred on by piety and faith, may we glory in being subject to the rule of the Virgin Mother of God; she bears the royal sceptre in her hand, while her heart is ever aflame with motherlove.

God bless! Monsignor Francis W. Beach, Pastor

Flame of Love Rosary Mondays at 7pm in the Main Church

The Flame of Love Rosary was given by Jesus and Mary to Elizabeth Kindleman of Hungary (1913-1985) and has spread to nearly every continent. We pray this Rosary in reparation for all sinners, including ourselves and our families.

The Virgin Mary's words to Elizabeth Kindlemann were: "Each time you pray invoking the Flame of Love for all humanity, Satan is blinded and loses his dominion over souls. My Flame of Love will blind Satan to the same extent that all of you spread it around the world."

Books are available in the chapel entrance to the church. Sign up to join the St. Jude group at stjudechalfont.org/flame-of-love-rosary or email [email protected].

Solemn Novena to St. Jude Thaddeus begins August 29-30 Our annual St. Jude Solemn Novena will take place during our Saturday Vigil and Sunday Masses beginning on Saturday, August 29 and ending nine weeks later on Sunday, October 25. Our Solemn Novena will conclude with 40 Hours Devotion. For your convenience, the Novena prayer will appear in the bulletin each week during the nine weeks of the novena. The prayer will be recited immediately after the final blessing at each Saturday Vigil and Sunday Mass. Please plan to stay after Mass for 5-10 minutes to join our community in this powerful prayer. The Church honors and invokes St. Jude universally as the patron of difficult cases and in times of despair. These difficult times make this novena all the more urgent.

  • 1st Reading – Is. 22:19-23

Thus says the LORD to Shebna, master of the palace: “I will thrust you from your office and pull you down from your station. On that day I will summon my servant Eliakim, son of Hilkiah; I will clothe him with your robe, and gird him with your sash, and give over to him your authority. He shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. I will place the key of the House of David on Eliakim’s shoulder; when he opens, no one shall shut when he shuts, no one shall open. I will fix him like a peg in a sure spot, to be a place of honor for his family.”

    Responsorial Psalm – Ps. 138:1-2, 2-3, 6, 8

    R. Lord, your love is eternal; do not forsake the work of your hands.

I will give thanks to you, O LORD, with all my heart, for you have heard the words of my mouth; In the presence of the angels I will sing your praise; I will worship at your holy temple. R. I will give thanks to your name, because of your kindness and your truth: When I called, you answered me; you built up strength within me. R. The LORD is exalted, yet the lowly he sees, and the proud he knows from afar. Your kindness, O LORD, endures forever; forsake not the work of your hands. R.

    2nd Reading – Rom. 11:33-36

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How inscrutable are his judgments and how unsearchable his ways!

For who has known the mind of the Lord or who has been his counselor? Or who has given the Lord anything that

    he may be repaid?

For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen. Alleluia.

    21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

    R. Alleluia, alleluia.

You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel – Mt. 16:13-20

Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi and he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the proph-ets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter said in reply, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Then he strictly ordered his disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.
